Without a doubt a unique and very enjoyable nine course lunch. Which it turned out was 20 individual dishes or palate cleansers that took near 4 hours to comfortably complete. The food is as much art as it is delicious, and the chef has a sort of savant culinary brilliance in the entire menu and presentation that honestly surpassed my expectations. To top it off the entire staff was exceptional and had impeccable timing that really crowned the experience. If your a foodie, or your looking for something memorable to do while in Ubud, this is something you have to do.

Absolutely horrible experience trying to book this restaurant. They don t answer the phone and their website form doesn t work. Had to go in person when they told me the reservation I was trying to book had been taken. Didn t offer to help and completely unapologetic for my losing 2hrs of my vacation. If you re going to charge fine dining prices, you need to deliver fine dining experience. Im sure the food is good as i've been to their sister restaurant Nusantara and its quite nice. Anyway, would have loved to give this a whirl and my overall impression was quite low.

Two Options, Veggie or not. Plenty Courses of tiny dishes. All Locally sourced. I might sound like a douche, but I do lack the words to properly explain the flavour journey that happened in my mouth. Most elaborate meal I have ever eaten. I opted for the vegetarian option and did try the other one, but I would say the veggie option is more facetted regarding flavour nuances. Book early!

Pretty good bang for your buck considering this was/is in the Top 50 restaurants! The use of local produce and the fusion elements is creative, the idea works for some dishes but not for all unfortunately. We tried the Locavore 7 course lunch - the 'eat your heart out' was a little bit too tasteless for us, and the 'triple c' a little bit too salty. The rest were great though! All the snacks and the extras was a great touch and it was so much fun to see what the next dish would be!

Had a very interesting gastronomical experience at this restaurant. We had the 9 course meal with drinks pairing. And we ended up getting served almost 20 different items because there were additional appetizers, palate cleansers and sweets on top of the 9 courses. Food was definitely delicious and what makes the place special was the way they make use of locally sourced ingredients to come up with modern dishes. The cocktail pairing was so well thought of and complemented the dishes very nicely. Highly recommended to try this place out especially if you re around Ubud. Just make sure to book well in advance in order to avoid disappointment. The 9 course meal takes approximately 3 hours, so do plan your day accordingly to accommodate for the long meal duration.

A wonderful experience and something totally unique.
We had some hiccups discussing some menu alterations (due to dietary constraints) ahead of time but on the evening we were blown away at how carefully the chefs had altered dishes to suit.
The food was ambitious and delicious. The service was confident and charming. Highly recommend for a memorable occasion.

Little wonders of food in taste and presentation. Staff good and explains every single dish in detail.
8 or we're it 9? amuses before you take off.
Not sure if we take a next time comparing beverage. It's also an adventure but a bottle of wine also can Lite up your taste buttons. Anyway good to experience Locavorne.

The best meal I've had in Asia, I think, ever. We tried both 7-course menus (meat and vegetarian) and overall we were blown away by the standard of foods they served us. Highlights include the Octopus (WOW!), Bonito (anis cured tuna), Flying Beans (with peanut magic), Sawah (Snails and egg in a very delicate treat). The Amuse Bouches were overall very very nice. Service as you can expect from a place that has Michelin standard in the kitchen. Minus for the goat tartare, not a pleasant experience. But they replaced the dish with a very pleasant treat, kudos. Alone worth the visit to Ubud!

Ambiance: 3.5 Nice restaurant aesthetically but music could be a little more in keeping with the price point. Cold Play not really fine dining music...
Service: 4/5 Attentive and good knowledge of the menu.
Food: 3.5. Some hits, some misses. Beautifully presented but just missing the flavour mark. We liked the adventurer of not knowing what was coming out though.
Value: 3 Very expensive for what you get. Maybe we're spoilt in Australia?? Not worth the money.
Overall: 3.5 It was ok, but we wouldn't be back.

The price is very high compared to the market price in Bali and it is difficult to make a reservation, but I was more impressed. A series of wonderful surprises. A series of plates that are rolled up using local ingredients from Bali. I was particularly impressed with the tomato soup. There are 4 plates with solid dessert! Why can I eat when I'm full? Because it's delicious!

Came to this restaurant with no expectation, and was blown away by the flavour, creativity, and attentive services. Seating at the bar overlooking the kitchen so you can watch chef preparing the food. The price is absolutely expensive, but you pay what you get. Into the sawah and bubur sum-sum was the highlight.

Really amazing lunch I had at Locavore! Definitely recommending friends there. I could taste the beautiful fusion of Indonesian flavours with the western cooking techniques and every single ingredient are perfectly fused together to create a new dimension. It s like getting to know your flavours again. I have more than a couple of favourites. Awesome! Love it!

Food here is very authentic. You can choose either 6 or 9 dishes. Make sure you dont have any plans after this because it will take for about two to three hours for everything to be served as they serve it one at a time. Food is great. We paid for about $300 for two people. High end restaurant. Very expensive but once in a life time experience

Fabulous, unusual, creative food. Set menu of 5 or 7 courses with lots of appetisers, palate cleansers, pre-dessert, post dessert... Our 5 course menu was actually 16 plates of food...
More expensive than other local restaurants, but Michelin quality food.

Book it a couple of months in advance if you want dinner...

The best we have ever eaten. We took the 7 courses with cocktails. Vegetarian and the normal courses. Great flavors. The cocktails with it: great !! The dishes come together fairly quickly. After a while we asked for a small break, no problem. Friendly staff. Clear explanation. Very happy we ate here.

One of the best fine dining meals I've ever had. For only $100 USD I got 17 courses of food (7 plus snacks and a course from the vegetarian menu that the chef sent out on the house) along with incredible cocktail pairings. The menu changes regularly so I won't bother listing my favorites, but I will say the cocktail pairing is a must - the drinks were thoughtfully constructed and added a lot to the experience. Highly recommend putting aside 2-3 hrs to dine here if you can get a reservation.

Only point of criticism is that the language barrier detracted significantly from the overall experience - it was difficult to understand the servers' descriptions of each dish, and every time I asked a follow up question they could only respond with politely puzzled looks. While I get that we're in a non-English speaking country, I've dined at plenty of restaurants of lower calibre in Bali where the staff were much more proficient in English and capable of interacting with the guests candidly (Locavore to Go and Night Rooster being two of them), so the service at Locavore left something to be desired.

My brother has booked this place months ago for us to try together. We were all super excited.

Service was very good (although their English has room for improvement). The experience of dining here is really cool where you try things you'd never imagine and they take you through a tour of local dishes.

You're supposed to make a decision on your menu after the first amouse bouche. However, the information shared is not great. They show you a list of one-worded dish names and they tell you to pick whether you want the 6 dish or 9 dish menu.

We went for the complete menu. Having dined there, I would've probably gone for the shorter one. They start with 6 appetizers that they never mentioned and they are all mostly based on flowers and plants. By the time you get to your actual dishes, your hunger is no longer there. I think we had 16 dishes?

It took about 4 hours to have dinner and we were all wanting to get out of there.

I think something needs to change for this place to maintain itself at the top.

I just needed to share my happiness of our lunch today. My wife and I ate here a couple of years ago and loved it so much we made another visit only to find that the food, drinks and service have gotten only better. A truly memorable experience we will talk about for sometime. Thank you Locavore, thank you!!

I have no words to describe the sensations we had here. We took the 7 course main menu with adapted beverages. These bevarages are a must to have them with the meals. Little cocktails of the same standard as the meals. Don't worry the alcohol level, it's low, just enough to achieve the desired taste. With a starter cocktail we weren't tipsy at all. Some little tasty marvels are served before and after the 7 courses.
This all hapens in a well designed and sober interior by a very friendly staff.

Woah... The food, the service, and entertainment for those who are foodies. And aussie guy let's you explore the wonders of Indonesian flavors but taking you via 7 dishes. You just pick if you want vegetarian of meat.
Each dish comes with an explanation of where your taste Buds are gonna go.
But... 2 things I must warn you about. Make a reservation well a head of time bc they don't take walk ins.

2nd... Spare at least 3.5 hours or your day bc it's gonna take you that long to finish what they prepare. But come one and come all and be introduced to Indonesia in a unique way.

Amazing relaxed fine dining. The atmosphere is very laid back and the service is very friendly although not the most attentive (which was still fine). The dishes are without exception very tasty and most of them with ingredients that are not commonly found in fine dining. I hope that Restaurants like Locavore are the future of local specialty fine dining and I would take a new taste over a piece of lobster and caviar any day. Try the Singkong17 from the vegetarian menu - it s an amazing dish. Into the Sawah is great too, if you like frog. I was only missing a proper wine pairing.

I had a wet season course meal which costs about 150k IDR. Meals consists of about 19 plates of starters, mains and desserts. An assault on the taste buds in terms of variery of flavours coming from the variety of ingredients. I had flowers and leaves at the start which I thought is a decoration. I think I ate at a pretty fast rate and it still takes about 2hrs to complete my meal. Would love to come back again to try other dishes.

My wife and I each shared a seven course regular and vegetarian menu with cocktail parings, and well, everything was perfect. If you need more information, the service was very professional, the food was creative, honest to Bali and was never tortured all food looked like food. I've done tasting menus the world over and this is how I like them to be- a true to the locale (hint is in the name) representation of local cuisine. What was especially impressive to me was the drink pairing. The cocktails were subtle, low alcohol, sized down and beautifully presented. Lastly, hundreds of micro decisions show up in this thoughtful restaurant that keep true to its ethos from using heritage rice (race in Indonesia, most rice here is a Philippines hybrid) to steak knives that are made in Indonesia.

Phenomenal. (Spoiler alert with the photos!)

Highly recommend if you want to treat yourself to a nice meal while staying in Ubud.

The Locavore team put together a menu that use local ingredients in such creative yet approachable way, every course told a beautiful story of the restaurants settings and surroundings.

I did not have the drink pairing, but all the cocktails I ordered were great.

We did the larger tasting and I was very full (comfortable and happy) at the end of my meal. But we also took our time. Don't rush the experience, enjoy every course as intended, and I think everyone can have a lovely time as we did.

A restaurant worth visiting. The theme of the reservation cost us a lot because it is always full, so if you want to eat, book early.
We sat at the bar, in front of the cooks, we chose the long menu of 5 starters and 7 dishes if I remember correctly. The experience was simply brutal! Authentic taste Balines, with a modern touch, well placed and well presented ... I will definitely repeat!

Our experience was outstanding. It s an expensive place so plan your meal here accordingly. If you are willing to spend then definitely don t miss this one. You also need to book in advance by getting in touch with the restaurant. The food is just delicious and so well plated. You would assume the potion sizes are small and may end up feeling hungry but trust me you will be full and satisfied. It s not in the top 50 restaurants for the heck of it! I wouldn t miss this. Intact would spend here as it is an experience of a life time

AMAZING place!! I even extended my stay in Ubud, JUST to come back to their butchers table on Sundays. Try both, the Sunday butchers table event, and their fine dining menu. And the rest of their restaurant universe!! The staff is super nice, and their drinks really really well-mixed, incl. non-alcoholic!

Positive: 1) Staff was very friendly and attentive,2) Good portion, 3) Beautiful plating, 4) Local flavors was well integrated into the dishes 5) Dairy free friendly 5) Good drinks

Area of improvement: 1) 2 dishes was a bit salty (too much salt on the leaves) 2) some of the sauces was on the sour side.

The staff was the only great part of the experience honestly. This place has such a hype in Ubud so we decided to finally try it. Honestly it was a very disappointing experience. Where to begin...

1. For what is to be considered a gastronomic experience it wasn t. The dishes lacked the balance there was no cohesiveness between the flavors. There was no special texture experience and it was bland. Take Away the amazing presentation and this is a regular restaurant. Not to mention how salty every single dish was.

2. My god the chairs.... 1.5 million a person to sit in the most uncomfortable chair you ve ever sat on! You are spending 3 hours there and by the time you get up you need a massage.. if only that was included.

Go all out here! Definitely get the pairing drinks and the 7 course menu. You re already spending a lot to be here, few more doesn t hurt and doesn t break the bank. One of the best restaurant experiences of my life. We sat in front of the kitchen and the chefs took time to explain each dish as it was served. Allow 2 to 3 hours for a full experience, and don t be the guy who eats an hour before coming here. You want to be hungry for this!

The price is a little high but personally c a restaurant not to be missed if you like modern cuisine. The staffs are very hospitable, the atmosphere relaxed and especially we must book like 2 ~ 3 days before ... impossible to find a table without reservation! The second time we visited the chefs uniquely fused Korean ingredients with their styles. It made us too happy. A culinary art, really well drawn on the dishes giving a huge pleasure to the eyes and then to the tongue and stomach at the end. As it is in the center of Ubud, there is plenty to do after the meal.

Our expectations were high, maybe too high. We traveled for weeks in Malaysia and Indonesia and were sometimes blown away by superb flavors. In Locavore the presentation is wonderfull and we know it's a huge work to bring 20 different foodpaintings on the table but we were disappointed by the tastes. Nothing blew us out of our socks. The taste was not 'mouthfilling' or surprising and pretty flat... and sometimes repetative. No complaints on service and setting though. Very friendly and correct. We feel sorry this is our experience.

Fantastic 5 course lunch. We were served a total of 18 items, many of which were bite-sized. The meal was a feast for the senses, with each dish bursting with different flavours. Also enjoyed the beautiful presentation. The restaurant is as good as the michelin star restaurants we've been to in Europe.

Absolutely stunning dining experience. I love everything I tasted in the degustation menu (7 courses pairing with cocktail) and amuse-bouches today. Full of Indonesian flavours and ingredients! And attentive service. Extremely good value of value.
What an unforgettable experience. Salute to the team. Thank you, Terima Kasih!

Awesome culinary experience. The presentation and experience are incredibly cool. The meal is technically 9 courses but they give you 5 or 6 surprise courses throughout the meal. All the food is delicious, the cocktail pairings are great, but the overall presentation and experience of the meal is what stands out. Definitely one of the best culinary experiences I have ever had. If this was in a city with a Michelin guide, it would definitely have a 1+ star.

In short, Locavore is one of the best restaurants in Bali and in Indonesia. Just fantastic on every level and it offers some unique dining experiences. It really is a fun and interesting restaurant with a cool atmosphere. The food is delicious and it manages to tickle all your senses and taste buds. The only option here is the tasting menu (5 or 7 dishes) as there is no a la carte menu as far as I know. All the dishes were unique and creative and combined modern cooking with local and traditional cuisines. I think my favourite was the Let s call it a ceviche fish dish and the Into the sawah duck egg dish. Both looked so beautiful and tasted terrific. In short, we all very much enjoyed our dinner here. The only thing that disappointed me was a cocktail that I had ordered, because I think it contained too much bitters. I couldn t finish it. The food and presentation was amazing though. So, I think I ll be back when they change their menu.

The reason why you cannot book this place coz their dinner take 2.5-3 hours with 19 dishes . Have high expectation but very disappointed & overpriced. We did only like few dishes out of 19 dishes. Especially the dessert part, we liked none of them... 3 stars are for the service & the environment.

From the details of every dish to the unique flavor combinations, there's a reason this is Bali's best restaurant and on the top 59 best list. This non pretentious fine dining restaurant was a total treat. Sitting at the chef's counter and watching the chefs work was a joy. One thing that stood out was all the chefs had smiles on their faces, not something you see in many other fine dining establishments (if ever) . If you have a splurge meal in you and want to enjoy the lo al flavors of Bali with a modern western flair, then you've found the right place.

What I like: Love how Locavore utilizes local ingredients and creates amazing dishes with them ! Appetizers and desserts were equally godly :) super satisfied. The cocktail pairing enhanced the dining experience, lovely. I d love to come again sometimes for the cocktails ! They hit the spot real good :)

What I don t like: Well, the main courses were a lot of misses in my humble opinion. The fish and the sea grapes was not as fresh as I expected, the duck was served in room temperature and somehow lack of flavor (despite the brilliant sauces), and the inside of the breaded veal brain was apparently not cooked thoroughly (I asked the waitress, but she clarified that it was cooked, and the reddish part wasn t blood. I am not sure though).

I do believe that there will be a lot of improvements if I have the opportunity to dine again, after all it s Locavore :) !
