The good thing about this cafe is because it has a sophisticated vibe and is right inside the South Melbourne Market. I had the prosciutto salad and it was citrusy, fresh and delicious. I really like the way they serve tap water, with mint and cucumber. It makes it super aromatic.

Unfortunately due to lock down, the menu is condensed at the moment but usually, they have 3-4 different kind of salads and they are always tasty and have good varieties.
Selections of home made desserts are also great for afternoon tea on the week end.
Highly recommended cafe.

Average. I don't understand the hype to be honest. Everything photographs nicely but the truth is that the coffee is only just passable and the breakfast dishes themselves are far too expensive for the basic ingredients used. The over cooked poached eggs topped off what was a forgettable morning...

The girl that was taking my order rolled her eyes on me, super rude attitude considering I had a baby in the pram and couldn t get through to pay because a bunch of ppl were standing on my way reading the menu, she wouldn t even ask them to move for me. I should have cancelled the order because the coffee that got served to me tasted absolutely putrid. Rude attitude + horrible coffee = never again!

When a place serves you a jug of water with cucumber and mint, you know you are about to experience a fusion of ingredients & flavours. The simple salad was made interesting by combining Prosciutto, apricot, fennel, red cabbage, celery and mint. The plunger chai latte was made with proper tea. Will definitely make more pit stops here during my market shopping trips.

I thought I'd give them a 5-star. Love the vibe here and the overall decor. Bright and airy, very casual and makes me feel relax. Service is prompt, the waitress is cool and the food is great. The coffee is from Toby estate and for those who are in for a quick bite, they have plenty of takeaway pastries to choose from. Definitely recommend you to come here for a coffee or brunch!

Sensational food- try the roast chicken roll, delicious and consistent the last hmm .. 10 times? Also Best coffee in the market now- giving Padre a run for their money.. the hip Clement coffee tends to promote a fruitier and more bitter coffee style (which some do go for) making you long for those nutty, toasty, choc and savoury flavours that got you addicted to coffee in the first place. The barista guy absolutely knows what he's doing - go when ya see he's on the machine ;)

What a great place for a quick meal! You get there by entering the food hall from the market. They have table service. Are super friendly and offer a lot of options for food.
If you re on the Keto diet, they have a great Avocado salad, will bring cream for your coffee (which is difficult in Australia), and you can have a nice grilled halloumi cheese side. I strongly recommend this awesome place!!!

For a venue that is connected to South Melbourne Markets, Proper & Son does a surprisingly great job of managing what must be one of the busiest spots in Melbourne.
Dishes were simple, plated well and delicious. Coffee was made well, and staff were super friendly once they got the time to serve you.

Saturday lunchtime and the South Melbourne Market is a little quieter than usual so we had to opportunity to eat in at Proper & Son. Glad we tried it: Jane served us the Roast Chicken Brioche Roll with Cranberry Stuffing and we followed that with tea and a shared (warmed) Raspberry Muffin. Couldn't be happier! Oh, and the free table water with a slice of cucumber and a little mint was not cold but it was surprisingly refreshing; appreciated.

Always have a great time here. Staff are really friendly. They change up what they have on offer in terms of salads and desserts quite often which makes every visit different. The roast chicken roll is a must try. The coffee here is also fantastic, during summer I would opt for one of their homemade sodas. Staff always friendly & open kitchen give great market vibe. Anyone visiting the South Melbourne Market should pay a visit even if it's just for a coffee.

Really impressed with the food here. Perfect brunch venue, with fresh ingredients and presented well. The pea fritters and bacon with soft egg roll were absolutely heavenly. Service is friendly and they deliver to you even when sitting outside in the food hall. Highly recommended!

Located in South Melbourne Market food court with its own seating area. Very busy before 9am mostly affluent baby boomers treating themselves coffee and breakfast after shopping The open kitchen with 5 or more and a bunch of hovering smiling waitresses. Efficient operation, coffee and meals promptly tabled. My Marketeer bun of real diced chucks of bacon, flipped mini omelette and condiments is a taste sensation. Cafe latte milky and good. Extra shot next time. The place is now full at 9am. Will return.
