My wife and I got the Mothers Day Tomahawk Steak Dinner this past weekend at Persimmons. To say the meal was great would be an understatement!! It came with everything from a spinach dip appetizer to fresh strawberries with homemade shortcake. The 3+ lbs. steak on the grill was superb along with marinated shrimp skewers and asparagus. We also enjoyed the french bread, cheesy potatoes, and caprese salad. The meal came with complete directions and many condiments and additions. The Blood Orange Prosecco Cocktail we ordered really topped off this meal. It's tuesday...and we are still eating left overs. Thanks you Persimmons; we'll be trying another one of your high end take-out meals soon.
It was awful food and terrible service. food was over cooked and the waitress and manager were rude and uncaring Way over priced food. An absolutely terrible experience. My wife and I will never eat at this restaurant ever again.
We did not have dinner here, but we did enjoy the Floatilla here. Wonderful presentation, hot chocolate, cider, cookies, amazing staff. Thank you so much for becoming a part of our Family's Christmas Memories!!
Over priced and under delivers. The food isn t terrible but just doesnt line up with the cost and service. There are many better restaurants in New Bern that are more reasonable. The view is the only thing that is special here.
The food is average in terms of taste, which makes it over-priced at this restaurant. It seems popular with the need to make reservations ahead of time and encountering the busy crowd the day I went. Was it worth the fine-dining price tag? There are better places.
It has been one of the most satisfying dining experiences we have had. The food was fresh and the service was inpecable. GREAT MEMORY!!!! Blessings to you'all.
Beautiful location on the water with outdoor seating. Small menu that is updated regularly. Good drink selection. Food is always good. Relatively expensive.
The view and atmosphere is 5 stars. The menu is 1 star. I've visited about a dozen times (other friends for some reason like this place) and have tried a variety of items; not one single thing I would ever eat again. Last time I had a meeting there I literally brought my own sandwich. The menu really needs upgraded to match the ambiance of such a lovely place.
Driving from Jacksonville, we found this gem after googling places that offered brunch in New Bern. I am not sure why we haven't eaten here before but I can't really imagine dining anywhere else now when we come back. Everything was amazing...the food, the atmosphere, the staff. We were extremely happy with our visit.
Persimmons is always on the list of places we recommend downtown. One of the few where they change up the menu! This is because they use fresh and local ingredients, so the menu is always changing. Some may say it s a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for here. I ve had the best pork chops I ve ever had here, and their cocktails are always great as well. On top of that, you can t beat the view!
Ate there for lunch today, service was fantastic and the restaurant has a great view. The food was lousy. The salmon portion was around 3 oz, over cooked; the chicken salad was big cut up hunks of meat, very bland on a burnt croissant. The fresh fruit was old or previously frozen and thawed. I will not waste my money again. There are so many fantastic restaurants in the New Bern area, I would not recommend eating here.
Our server was having a rough night (by no fault of her own), but she was amazing with us and our food was amazing! Probably the best service we ever had.
Persimmons is doing a fantastic job with take and bake meals as well as curbside service for hot meals during the lockdown. They are attentive and the food is wonderful. They are also giving a TON back to the community. Can't wait to actually try eating in persimmons when things get back to normal
Bar wasn t stocked , out of a lot of drinks , we waited for our table for 45 min when we had a Reservation . Our waiter was rude and called us dude and man all night !he had no manners at all .He took our appetizer Away when we weren t finished and our food was cold , we told him it was cold and he ignored us ! We were so disappointed :( . He never stayed at our table long enough to ask if we wanted drinks . He was too busy . Understaffed place will not be returning .
Like many places on the water or with a view the food can be subpar. Persimmons lived up to being a place with a view with average food. If you want a view in New Bern, this is the best place.
What a turn around! Since hurricane Florence the rebuilding of the restaurant has included the menu, chef, and cook staff. Excellent food, still a little expensive and service can be slow as they adjust to the amount of business they have. Live music outside several days a week.

This is a fabulous place with a gorgeous setting. My family ordered brussel sprouts at this place as an appetizer, and I was skeptical at first. However, Persimmons made me LIKE brussel sprouts because they were cooked so wonderfully. Any place that has a chef so good he can actually make me like brussel sprouts is a 10/10 in my book. The only concern I have is that my aunt recently got a salad at this restaurant and it had a little inch worm in it. Sometimes things happen, but I think they should maybe spend a little more time cleaning their produce. Other than that, very very good. I highly recommend ordering one of their soups to start, even in the summer. The atmosphere is unlike any other place in New Bern.
Steaks not cooked right and then try to recook the steak and give it back to me and still not done right. Food was very bland. Loved the outdoor live music view was amazing.
Amazing food great atmosphere. We came from out of town about four and a half hours away and we're recommended here I do not regret it. I'd make the trip just for the food again
Wonderful waterfront outside and a nice view from inside as well with two stories that has a view of the waterfront too. I had Roasted Beef Salad with local mixed greens, roasted beef, NC strawberries, NC goat cheese, candied nuts and poppy seed vinaigrette. They take pride in using local produce and NC beer as well as being a true locally owned and operated businesses. You can hear the jumping fish outside, not sure what type they are but a trip to see them jump in the air from the water. I had a great time and the food was both excellent and fairly priced for this type of waterfront restaurant.
My husband and I visited in celebration of our anniversary. We are repeat customers and have even brought our neighbors along with us! Over the last couple of years, we have tried a number of different appetizers and main dishes; we have enjoyed every one! With their new chef, attentive and courteous staff, along with their location and atmosphere, we will always consider it a great place to eat!!
This waterfront restaurant is located in such a perfect spot in New Bern. This was my first time to Persimmons and let me tell you that the food, the views, the service, and the experience was world class. I definitely will be visiting this location and other locations again soon. I will absolutely reccomend this place for both tourists and locals alike. Check it out Asap!!! Cheers and Namaste!!
Was very disappointed when making a reservation for our anniversary for a nice dinner we asked for a table outside or a window looking out. We had a.reservation for 7pm had to sit and wait.for 15 mins to be in something I did not request. Our waitress was very Slow.the people at the table across.from had there food and was con be us and they were Sat later. The staff brought our salads out twice.it too for ever for our food to come out and no one from payment came to say apologize for what the hold up was. The food was just ok. I don't.know that we.would come back. Which is sad I had lunch there and the.service was great as was the food. I.am really disappointed in dinner.tonight.
For such a positive reputation, the food was really hit and miss . Crab cake and burger were great. But the sweet potatoes "fries" were raw, and the mashed potatoes were literally a baked potato skinned and crushed with a fork no seasoning or milk or salt. We also waited 40 minutes in an almost empty dining room and outside area. Disapointing birthday dinner.
What a lovely waterfront restaurant. We had very good service, and the food was cooked to perfection. We had the Nooherooka and the Crab Cake Sandwich, along with local NC beer and a nice martini. We really appreciate that they strive to serve locally-sourced foods! The weather was not cooperative to dine outdoors; we'd like to try dining on the deck sometime, as it looks just as nice as the inside does!
Father s Day Brunch at Persimmons on the New Bern waterfront couldn t have been more perfect. Brunch cocktails and Pimento Cheese Hushpuppies paved the way for a Crabcake and Fried Green Tomato salad and the best Carolina Shrimp and Cheddar Grits we ve ever tasted. And did I mention that out-of-this world Chocolate Toffee Mousse Cake????
We came to the coast and this afternoon meal and atmosphere was EXACTLY what I had envisioned. Outdoors, altho not shaded at the time, was delightful with the clouds, blue skies and just right breeze. Sailboats passed by and Mallard ducks flew around on occasion. The crab cake was flavorful and assembled to perfection! The fried green tomatoes with the dish had a very light, possibly cornbread, coating that made them so light and crisp! Our waitress, Emily I think, was knowledgeable and friendly! It was the perfect afternoon of dining!
First time coming here. The website made it sound like they had vegan spaghetti or even a rotating vegan selection, but that's not the case. Our waitress told us they can basically remove the meat items, but she said nothing about replacing it with anything, and I don't want to visit the waterfront to eat sides. So I got the sea bass with risotto which, in all fairness, was great The sweet potato risotto was mouth-slapping, 10/10 on that one! The sea bass was a little small and very mild but it wasn't a bad meat. Beer was good. The fried green tomatoes were very disappointing but everything else was quality. The atmosphere was amazing, seriously, I wanted to stay in there all day Might go ahead if they add actual vegan dishes (there is a veggie burger, which is great! But I'm sick of eating burgers everytime I go out)
I think Persimmons is my favorite restaurant in New Bern. The food is great, they always have an interesting menus, and I love being able to sit outside on their water front deck
We ate lunch there today. It was a very pleasant experience, food was delicious, people working were friendly and helpful, restaurant clean and a beautiful view of the water. Will definitely return and recommend it to friends.
Two stars is just because it s on the water. Tried this place twice now and Service is unbelievably slow, food over priced (Brussel sprouts are not great and the pork belly wasn t ever seen in the dish) and not good (fish tacos looked they were fried in corn meal) and draft beer wasn t even cold and expensive. Head over to morgans tavern. Great food and drinks every time.
2nd time here. We love this restaurant. Very tasty. Surprising flavor combinations that totally work. Beautiful views from both inside and outside the restaurant. The decor is and menu are nice enough for a special occasion but it isn't stuffy. The staff are friendly and efficient. They had to do a remodel after Florence and the patio isn't open yet, but they said they will have a grand reopening in May. So some out and support a great restaurant and Florence survivor! We'll definitely be back (and we live in Durham!)
