Could use a spot to plug in, but otherwise, nice local coffee shop for those times you need to get out of the house to work.

As a visitor to the city I always search out places that make me feel welcome and 'at home'. . JAVA GIRL is that place. I always look forward to being there. It's a great way to start the day!

A wonderful coffee spot with a tremendous fresh tea selection! I stop here almost every morning over the summer for Ice coffee.

Excellent local coffee shop with knowledgeable and friendly owner and top notch drip coffee and espresso. It has a nice little seating area both inside and outside to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. This is some of the best coffee in the neighborhood.

Great little coffee place that is a welcome respite from the ubiquitous Starbucks. Solidly good coffee and tea, artsy decor, sit as long as you like policy, great place to have a conversation or an informal meeting as many from nearby Cornell or Sloan Kettering do.

It was my favourite spot in NY. Coffee and pastries are just amazing. The atmosphere is relax as well. A perfect spot tp enjoy your coffee. Moreover the owners are super friendly and you can see they trest the customers like friends/family. I would definetely suggest to go to grab a coffee:)!

This place was just what I was looking for on my Saturday morning, local coffee shop instead of the usual chain. They made me a fantastic double latte which would help me with an early start. As I was having one pure moment of happiness sipping this latte and enjoying my favorite breakfast carbs that I try to save for the weekend (Dunkin Doughnut's White Cheddar Bagel Twist), the woman working behind the counter approached me from behind and said I could not eat that here since they sell their own pastries. As a customer who was having a good experience, my morning was disturbed by her attitude as she said it and perhaps lack of customer service sensitivity that I have experience in (working as a in international flight attendant for 4 years working with all types of customers). Perhaps next time, she could let a customer who did not know this policy with an "I know you did not know, but next time, please be aware." I probably will not return to this small cafe since I like to sip my first morning coffee in peace.

Best coffee in NYC. I walk from my apartment about a mile away passing all the other coffee places on the way. Nice ambiance inside and outdoor seating as well. Prices are very reasonable .

The ambience is all this place has going for it. The coffee is watery and slightly burned. Also, the cookies come from a Tate's package, that they refill their jar with and call it their own. 2 stars for the decor and public restroom.

An intimate cafe with enough activity to be interesting without the forced bustle of the national chains. It's charm is enhanced by seasonal decor.

The low key but pleasant staff serves up well prepared snacks and quality beverages at reasonable prices.

Locals love this cozy spot, so international travelers will be happy they read this review. The glorious smell of fresh burlap sacks of coffee beans from around the world and the aroma of the daily brews meet you as soon as you open the door. The owner is always there and her wonderful smile and artwork welcomes the weary traveler. If you love to enjoy coffee in a warm atmosphere, this place is worth a trip out of your way, but there is not enough room here to open up a laptop computer; if you want to do that or have a business meeting, go to Starbucks.

On the expensive side for decent coffee, but wow talk about nostalgic. This place makes me feel like I walked into the blooming coffee shop scene from the 90s. One word -- cozy. Planning on this being my new local spot.

Not really computer friendly, but sometimes it's good to unplug. Desserts hand picked by owner is usually tasty.

Small place and no WiFi. Java and no Internet, not my cup of tea unless you are serving some serious java and I didn't get that feeling when sipping. Thanks anyway. It's good if you live on East 66th and your walking to the subway or bus. Wouldn't go too far out of my way for this one.

I regularly went to Java girl on my way to work at Rockefeller for about 8 months for their delicious and generous espresso shots (not that this place is practically cash only). Despite the great coffee and cozy fun atmosphere, I stopped going because of unfriendly service not once, but many times. The general aloofness was consistent enough that I eventually felt uncomfortable being a regular patron despite the fact that the store seems very neighborly and off the beaten path. Maybe I wasn't as frequent a customer as I thought? Anyway, the coffee is good so I'd still give it 3 stars.

My girl friend absolutely adores this place and for good reason. 90's style, good seating, friendly staff and good food/drink. I had a hot chocolate here in winter which was amazing and an iced coffee in summer which was good, not great. They sell cool cups and other things, fresh coffee beans as well cookies/pastries. Worth a stop if you want to support a local business and a must if you want to sit and drink/eat, the atmosphere is really the best.

The owner and staff are extremely friendly and they make an effort to get to know their loyal customers of which they have many! It is your quintessential neighborhood coffee shop and the Upper East Side is lucky to have it.

Completely pretentious. They act like they are the be all and end all of coffee, and is its not even that good! They used to have wifi, stopped, and now they straight up lie that they never had it . It's too bad it's such a nice spot.

Coffee: Their self-serve coffee is very good, with two regular options (French/strong and a varietal roast), decaf, and a flavored. Don't know how often they brew the regulars, but they always tastes fresh and robust. Prices (for coffee) are very reasonable - $2.20 for a large.

This place is super cute, feels like you're in a new England style general store with wooden floors, benches, and homestyle furniture. Seating is limited to 7-2 person tables, plus a couple seats outside. Ambient music and lots of people working on computers make for a quiet atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back here.

A Whitmanesque barbaric yawp in the face of the Strabucksification of coffee. Great coffee in a cozy setting that could be in a small New England town right in NYC. They also offer their Java Girl house blend for home brew. FYI, let them grind it for you.

One of my favorite coffee shops in the upper east side. Staff are super friendly and kind. The coffee is amazing! Pastry items are baked fresh every morning. Nice assortment of teas and other quick bites. Cute and charming little nook. I have been a customer for years and the service and quality is always consistent.

With such great reviews, I guess I had high expectations but coffee was mediocre. I ordered a mocha but there was no mocha flavor in it and tasted like light coffee with an aftertaste rather than espresso. Pretty disappointed. Won't be coming back.

Beloved upper east side cafe has been serving the hospital district for more than 20 years. Strong coffee, attentive staff, and cozy places to sit and chat including sidewalk seating in the warm months. This is not a place to work on your computer all day (go to Starbucks!) but to meet an actual human being for coffee. Java Girl also does a brisk takeout business. Large variety of coffee beans for sale and a welll curated gift section that is the place to go for Valentine's day and Christmas gifts.

The coffee is burnt, the service is rude, and the prices are high. The scone I had was ok, but there was mold growing on one of the yogurts in the refrigerator case. To be avoided unless you like pretentious people talking loudly on their phones, obnoxious baristas, mediocre coffee, and dodgy food.
