We’ve been collaborating with Holly Hulburd and her team at Hulburd Design for more than a year now, and the experience has been fantastic. Holly is incredibly creative and intuitive, taking the time to truly understand our needs as we tackled home renovations and a major push to expand our storage. When we found ourselves in a tight spot with clutter, she quickly rolled out a solution that included a beautifully redesigned kitchen and cabinetry, plus a gorgeous library area. Beyond layout, she helped us curate the perfect furniture mix, balancing pieces from big-box stores with custom-made items. What really sets Hulburd Design apart in the San Francisco market is her network of skilled artisans. She seamlessly coordinated everything from cabinetmaking and stonework to upholstery and electrical, which is a huge relief in a city where finding reliable contractors for smaller projects can be a nightmare. Holly remains flexible, communicative, and warm throughout the process, ensuring that budget or timeline constraints never compromise the final quality. Her staff is equally impressive—knowledgeable, responsible, and focused on the client. I highly recommend Hulburd Design.

Hulburd Design truly delivered an exceptional experience. Holly’s team understood that the existing architecture was already quite dynamic, so they intentionally introduced clean, minimalist lines to complement the space rather than overwhelm it. The result was stunning, with the roof deck serving as a vibrant, disco-inspired highlight. It was impressive how they anchored the furnishings to the blue kitchen island, ensuring the decor enhanced the structure instead of competing with it. We highly recommend Holly and her company in San Francisco!

Collaborating with Holly and her team at Hulburd Design in San Francisco has been a consistent pleasure. We’ve worked together on numerous residential projects and have even sent our own clients to HD for their design expertise, which they have loved. Holly’s firm stands out for producing construction documents that are both elegant and highly practical for builders to execute. I confidently recommend Hulburd Design for any remodeling or design work.

After building our dream home in Mill Valley back in 2006, I figured my background in design meant I could handle the interiors. I was wrong. Despite having access to high-end furniture from my five showrooms, every layout just felt off. So, I called Holly at Hulburd Design in San Francisco. Our process was intense—almost like a sibling rivalry—but she guided me through every decision with clarity. She transformed my house into a true home. Now, when I walk in, I feel a sense of peace that was missing before. I may hate admitting it, but she nailed it when I couldn’t.

We’ve called on Hulburd Design for multiple projects since 2001, starting with a major remodel that took nine months, followed by several others ranging from one to five months. Holly and her crew in San Francisco have consistently delivered exceptional quality. We truly appreciate their hands-on guidance and their dedication to handling every minor detail until the work is absolutely perfect. We wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again for future home improvements. Phil

It’s been nearly 15 years since we first partnered with Hulburd Design for a kitchen remodel when we first settled in San Francisco, and looking back, I still wouldn’t swap a single detail. Holly has a fantastic eye for spatial logic and fine details, ensuring every element serves a purpose. That initial experience was so enjoyable that we brought her back recently to tackle three bathrooms. Thanks to her guidance, we’ve gained a real understanding of what constitutes thoughtful design, and our home is now a seamless blend of functionality and style.

Holly at Hulburd Design is still one of our best decisions from the 2008 SF apartment renovation. Her team made the entire journey enjoyable, and her eye for detail is exceptional. She guided us through every choice, from selecting the perfect door handles to nailing the paint shades, turning what could be stressful into a fun experience. She was also incredibly attentive during the construction phase, keeping everything on track. The result is a space that is both beautiful and perfectly suited for our family. It’s more than just a great service; Holly has become a true friend over the years.

I’ve now worked with Hulburd Design on two distinct projects in San Francisco, and both experiences were exceptional. My initial engagement was a full-scale apartment decoration where Holly perfectly mirrored my personal style. The execution was seamless, removing the usual stress from the process. Beyond my own satisfaction with the living space, I receive frequent compliments from guests. I was particularly impressed by their deep knowledge of fabrics, brands, craftspeople, and even unique sourcing options. Their attention to detail, organizational discipline, and ability to stay on budget were evident. Due to that success, I hired them again to architect and manage a complete remodel of an older SF apartment. The blend of architectural precision and decorative flair resulted in a stunning final product. Once again, their focus on timing, quality, and budget adherence was outstanding. If I ever undertake another new build, remodel, or decoration project, Hulburd Design will be my first choice.

Hulburd Design has been our trusted partner since 2002, transforming a century-old San Francisco home from a structurally sound but internally dilapidated property into our ideal residence. What started as a complete gut renovation evolved into a lasting relationship, leading to multiple subsequent projects and numerous recommendations to others seeking exceptional design expertise. Holly and her team masterfully balanced modern functionality with the home’s historic character, using understated textures like wood, stone, and textiles to create a space that feels both refined and inviting. Their meticulous attention to detail ensured that the old and new elements harmonized seamlessly, resulting in a light, warm, and highly practical living environment. We deeply appreciate Holly’s subtle, clean aesthetic and the genuine collaboration that made the entire process a pleasure.

San Francisco-based Hulburd Design has transformed both our residential and commercial spaces, bringing clarity and warmth to every project. We have engaged them for five distinct jobs, and our trust in their expertise continues to grow. What sets them apart is their deep understanding of how architecture and interior design intersect, supported by a robust network of reliable partners. They navigate the complexities of construction seamlessly, ensuring that every phase of the project stays on schedule and adheres to the agreed-upon budget.

If you are looking for a San Francisco design firm that truly pushes creative boundaries, look no further than Hulburd Design. With over three decades of experience observing the construction and design landscape, I have rarely encountered a team as capable as Holly Hulburd and her crew. They possess a rare gift for translating abstract concepts into reality, ensuring your personal vision is not just understood but realized.
