I've lived here almost 10 years and love being with interesting residents and caring staff. I really appreciate the support from Tiffany Proctor, Director of Life Enrichment and Elizabeth Whitehouse, Cultural Events Manager. They always have big smiles no matter what we ask of them. The recent holiday meals were elegant and delicious - kudos to the cooks and the servers.

I am a resident and I have to say that the food is mediocre and they recently raised our rent. The worse part though is that the new Director of Life Enrichment Tiffany never listens to my concerns and is just unpleasant to be around. Sometimes I feel I should have chosen the other Goodwin House in Alexandria.

Former employee here. The way we were treated was absolutely disgusting. The work environment is extremely toxic, and that is reflected by how many employees are unhappy working here. Gossip is common place, and unnecessary drama for a retirement home. The higher ups here have absolutely no idea what is going on. We are told to do things without any sort of planning. An example of this was when we opened the dining rooms back up, we were never told how to execute this yet we were expected to do so. Peter, the Dining services director walks around without doing much, and takes credit for all the hard work we servers do. This is not to mention that many of us unknowingly interacted with residents that had COVID-19, and this was never disclosed to us by any of the staff members, putting our lives at risk. This interaction pretty much sums up the work environment. We are the very last thought in mind, as long as the residents are happy. Even the residents are noticing that Goodwin House is in shambles. The kitchen is an absolute disaster, and run by somebody who knows little to nothing about actual kitchen management and recipes. There were many options that would have been a lot better to replace our beloved Executive Chef Allison, but we went with somebody who was low to mediocre just because of how long she has been there. This place clearly values networking over quality, and that is not fair to the residents. I have been holding a lot of this and more in, out of fear of being fired, but I would like to speak up as a warning to others.
