Another timing issue occurred in Dublin. The walking tour ended near the Guinness storehouse, and our beer tasting was scheduled just thirty minutes later, leaving us without adequate time to eat first. On a positive note, the Hotel Imperial in Cork was great, and the Hardiman Hotel in Galway was also excellently situated. We added an extra day in Galway to visit Connamara and Kylemore Abbey, which was a highlight. I wish this had been scheduled on our second day instead of a brief 1.5-hour walking tour that didn’t add much value. I think this excursion was available, but our representative didn’t suggest it for that specific day. Overall, it was a very good trip; I’m just sharing feedback on how timing and logistics could be improved.

The Garrison was easily one of the worst hotels I’ve experienced, with staff who were unfriendly and unhelpful. I’d strongly recommend Firebird Tours reconsider their choice of lodging in that area. The train service was also lacking for those with mobility issues; without the kindness of fellow passengers, it would have been a struggle. On the bright side, the guides were exceptional. Thomas, David, Jamie, John, and our driver Steven were all A+. I especially enjoyed learning about Snooker from Steven. Inverness was a highlight, and I’d definitely return there.

We absolutely loved exploring the canals and fjords. A heads-up on the Ice Bar: skip it unless you want to freeze and don’t mind a rowdy, alcohol-fueled crowd—the coats didn’t even zip properly! Also, if you have trouble with stairs, avoid the Bergen Bors hotel. We spent over an hour dragging our luggage over cobblestones from the train station. Definitely take a cab or Uber there. Otherwise, every other hotel was great, and we actually enjoyed using the train station as our stopover.

While Firebird Tours generally secures great hotel locations, the rooms in Venice and Rome could use a size upgrade. The guides were knowledgeable, but there was a hiccup during the Coliseum tour in Rome. I did send the taxi receipt via email for a refund, but I haven’t heard back yet. On a minor note, a driver in Madrid arrived over an hour early for our train departure without calling to notify us, which forced my companion to skip breakfast. Aside from these transport and booking snags, we thoroughly enjoyed our journey.

Additionally, while we loved our free time to explore at our own pace, having a few more curated suggestions for those hours would have been a nice touch. Despite that minor issue and the holiday scheduling quirk, it was a wonderful trip overall.

I did notice one guide had some mobility challenges and couldn’t show us around as extensively as the others, but that was a minor detail. The only real hiccup was that most drivers and hotel reservations still listed James Pastva as the lead traveler, even though I (Margaret) was the primary point of contact during booking. For future reference, it would be great to have my name listed as the main contact. Otherwise, it was a fantastic experience!

Our journey with Firebird Tours was largely positive, with mostly comfortable accommodations across Europe. The stay in Rome was just average, and the breakfast there wasn't great, but our time in Sorrento was fabulous—we really wish we had extended our stay there. The hotels in Florence were excellent, and the breakfasts were a highlight. I also found most of the guides to be fantastic and knowledgeable. The only minor downside was that a few of them seemed focused strictly on the clock, making bathroom breaks a bit of a rush.
