Empirescope is described as a living atlas that presents a journey through time, allowing users to view the evolution of empires across chosen historical periods. The site functions as an interactive map, displaying boundaries from the Cliopatria dataset and the Seshat Global History Databank. Users can select a start and end year to play an animated view of historical territorial changes. The platform also offers a recording feature that saves the playback as a WebM clip with year and source information included. It is built on Natural Earth basemap data and rendered using MapLibre GL.
