Jay Lofstead is a Principal Member of Technical Staff in the Scalable System Software Group at Sandia National Laboratories, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His work focuses on scientific data issues for high performance computing applications, with a primary emphasis on I/O and data movement. More recently, his research has expanded into areas such as workflow infrastructure, storage systems, energy use of data, and resilience techniques aimed at reducing data movement. He has been involved in projects including SIRIUS, a storage system that merges I/O libraries with storage capabilities; SmartBlock, a pipeline-based approach to reusable workflow components; Hobbes, which provides operating system support for application composition; and D2T, a system for managing doubly distributed transactions.
