Coupard Architects Inc.

In 2014, we partnered with Coupard Architects & Builders in Falls Church to tackle a complex renovation of our kitchen and an adjacent room in a 60-year-old home. The project involved structural changes, including removing load-bearing walls and extending an exterior wall, as well as leveling out uneven floors and ceilings. The team did an excellent job blending the existing structure with the new design. Mark was a true partner throughout the process, listening to our ideas, keeping the project on schedule, and sticking to the budget. The design-build approach was seamless, and his crew consisted of skilled professionals who were not only creative problem-solvers but also neat and friendly. The quality of the craftsmanship was outstanding. We would highly recommend them and would certainly work with them again.

Coupard Architects & Builders delivered an outstanding renovation for our Falls Church home. Mark and his team completely transformed our kitchen and two bathrooms, bringing fresh creativity while remaining highly responsive to our input. Given that our 1926 craftsman bungalow had been altered in the 1960s, they expertly stripped the spaces back to the original plaster and batten, uncovering hidden architectural details. The process was transparent, with the work completed on time and within budget, and all changes clearly communicated. We truly valued Mark’s professionalism and collaborative spirit over those three months, and the quality of the craftsmanship has stood the test of time.

After interviewing several other firms, we selected Coupard Architects & Builders in 2007, largely because we had seen their excellent renovation work on friends' homes in Bethesda and noticed a beautifully updated house in Arlington. Our project in Falls Church was extensive, involving a new kitchen, updated siding and exterior, and window replacements across almost every upper-level room. The quality of work was so impressive that we returned to Mark in 2011 for Phase Two, which included basement improvements and three-and-a-half bathroom renovations. We stayed in the house during both projects, and the team was incredibly careful, managing dust effectively and paying close attention to our needs. They even returned in 2015 to fix a small siding crack at no extra cost. We are now considering a third project, starting with a new multi-level deck, and have happily recommended their top-tier service to everyone we know.

Working with Coupard Architects & Builders in Falls Church was an exceptional experience. Mark Coupard completely renovated our 1920s Sears bungalow, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Their team demonstrated true professionalism, offering brilliant design work backed by detailed planning and superb craftsmanship. They also had a remarkable talent for solving unexpected issues as they came up. The quality of the renovation was so impressive that it earned approval from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, allowing us to qualify for a tax credit. It has been wonderful maintaining a relationship with them even a decade later, and we have referred numerous friends and neighbors, all of whom have had great outcomes.

Working with Coupard Architects in Falls Church on a custom screened porch and deck project back in 2013 was an outstanding experience. The job required significant site work, including excavating part of the yard, which added complexity, but the team handled it seamlessly. They were onsite daily for four months, demonstrating exceptional professionalism and patience as they answered all my questions and even got along with my curious dogs. We decided to build everything in Ipe wood after touring another project where they had used the material—it was a bit of a lengthy process, but the result is absolutely worth it. The new addition blends so naturally with the original structure that visitors often assume it was part of the home from the start. Mark was incredibly accessible throughout the build, maintaining complete honesty and professionalism. It’s hard to imagine a better outcome for a residential addition.

When we decided to expand our 1925 Colonial home in Lyon Park over a decade ago, the team at Coupard Architects & Builders delivered an exceptional experience. Mark, Charles, and their crew were incredibly attentive, collaborating with us to refine the design until it perfectly matched our vision. The construction phase was seamless, and the resulting addition not only looks beautiful but also integrates seamlessly with the original structure. Ten years later, we are still thrilled with the quality of their work and highly recommend their services to anyone in the Falls Church area looking for reliable residential builders.

Living through various homes abroad gave us a clear idea of what we wanted in a renovated property. We loved our lot in Franklin Park, McLean, VA, with its mature trees, but the 1958 split-level house needed a major overhaul. We hired Mark Coupard at Coupard Architects & Builders to help us realize our vision of expanding the public spaces into a light-filled, airy environment. We added about 1,000 square feet, transforming the old living, dining, and kitchen areas into a seamless open floor plan that flows onto a new deck. Mark’s team raised the ceilings and introduced intricate tray ceiling designs in the main rooms and the new master suite, a detail that was beautifully mirrored in the new front porch. The renovation brought in abundant natural light through large windows in all bedrooms, the study, and the rec room, complemented by skylights in the kitchen and two bathrooms. We felt supported every step of the way, from material selection to final finishes. Mark was responsive and offered excellent guidance, ensuring every room was upgraded, including our son’s new bedroom and the completely reimagined public areas. The result is a sanctuary that feels spacious yet intimate, as one guest noted. We highly recommend Coupard Architects & Builders for their first-rate craftsmanship, from the framing and woodwork to the precise masonry and interior trim. The windows and doors exceeded our expectations, and although our budget increased slightly due to our specific fixture choices, the costs were transparent and communication was excellent throughout. We are proud of the aesthetic quality and the skill of the team.
