Great American-style menu! I recently took my mom to lunch here: she's 80+ and likes a mild, midwestern menu...so she really appreciated the food options (grilled cheese, meatloaf, etec). We split a salad and a chicken salad sandwich. Both were amazing! The chicken salad was all white meat, just the right amount of mayo, light on the salt, too. The salad was HUGE, and so delicious with mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds and chicken chunks...super-fast lunchtime service, and fair prices. Attentive waitstaff, too. What's not to like?

This is a neighborhood establishment with the friendliest people, the first time I was there, the customers and staff acted like they knew me forever, the food there is top notch, no matter what you order. Large helpings and really reasonably prices. The crowd there is mature, fun and friendly. I wish we had a place like this near my home. Will go back !!!

Old fashioned place that takes you back to the days when restaurants weren't always trying to reinvent the wheel and charge $15 for a hamburger. Good old standards for good prices. Fish sandwich is huge and good as any in the city. Staff has been there forever as well as many customers. They are often packed for a reason while some of the flashier places are half dead at times. Nice hidden gem in Germantown.

Horrible experience!
First off called in was put on hold (not really hold just put the phone down for 10 mins!) Hear other people getting orders and such, finally I called back when they answered I asked if they were busy they said no... If they said yes I'd forgive the long wait.
Second ordered their famous fish and when we picked it up there were no tartar sauce and ketchup as requested.
Then let's talk quality of the 4 pieces we received 1 was good the rest tasted like they were warmed up with burned batter on them.
Last the sides were like rubber, and some had half of something else in them like these were leftovers!
Really think twice before visiting this place!
I know I won't refer anyone here nor will I return!

Ordered a kids meal, a fish sandwich meal and a fried livers meal. The liver meal was completely gone, the kids meal had no fries and the fish meal had neither side. When I called they basically said the driver should have checked the bag but they put the wrong stuff in the bag ( Including pudding I didnt order with my name)

A friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant, you order seat yourself, order at the bar, pick up your drinks, and go back to your seat to wait for your name to be called. Fried catfish (open face sandwich) was the special and it was SPECIAL! The fish was moist, the breading was crispy with a very distinctive, wonderful crunch. I enjoyed every bite of this fried catfish. I started eating the fish with some tartar sauce (it was good), but abandoned the tartar sauce so I could just enjoy the fish after the second bite. I also had fried apples (below average) and onion rings (very good). My wife had the chicken sandwich which she said was very good. But Check s gets 5 stars because the catfish was the best fish I have had in Louisville, and the best catfish I ve ever had. Dinner for two with sodas for under $25 makes Checks a great value - we were both stuffed. Street parking was readily available. There are TVs available if you want to catch a game and enjoy some drinks with or without dinner.

The catfish was a special! I am going back to try some of their other offerings. And I am going to try to find out when they have catfish so I can go back every time if is available.

We come here regularly. It's not fancy but it's a classic Germantown spot. It can be very crowded at lunch and quite loud. They do tend to treat older regulars a little nicer than the rest of the world, but I don't mind that so much because the food is good and the beer is cold. I recommend the Reuben Sandwich with fries (batter dipped) or the chili cheese dog.

It was a little busy when we went, but not too overwhelming. It had a nice local atmosphere to it. I would recommend the Fish, Chilli as an entree and get the onion rings as a side and or a plate of chilli fries. They had some of the best sweet tea in the area. Really enjoyed it and would reccomend for a nice casual evening.

Ate upstairs in the bar. Nice atmosphere. Quiet little downtown establishment. Fair service. Ordered a burger with fries and a fish sandwich dinner. The fish was awesome. The burger was ok.
Ticket with tip was $28.
I'd go back and recommend it as a great Friday or Saturday nighter.

Lived nearby in Indiana all my life and always wanted to go so I finally did. Game day, so lots of sport watchers. Very nice, non-crazy crowd plenty of open spots for us non-sports types to get a bite. Friendly service. Great Chili lots of meat and spaghetti noodles. Not too hot just right. I had a burger it was perfect. Will be back. A new favorite destination in the friendly German town neighborhood.

There are so many choices on the menu, it's difficult to decide what to order. I ordered a double cheeseburger w/onion rings. It was excellent. I also ordered a bowl of chili to go for lunch the next day. I had a few bites of the chili before putting it in the fridge, and it tastes verg good. My friends ordered fried mushrooms, fish sandwiches w/fries, fried chicken, greens and bean soup.. Everyone was quite satisfied with their meal (and very full). The night we were there was trivia night. They also have karaoke nights. We will be returning soon.

Not super authentic german but extremely tasty! Such a great neighborhood spot. Amazing atmosphere, fun little place with yummy tavern style food! Has a bar, but also family friendly during the day. Love Check's. I can't believe I lived so many years in Louisville before I came here!
