I was visiting the Richmond area for a vacation and wanted to check out some of the local coffee shops. I found Captain Buzzy's Beanery online and thought it looked like a great local place. The building is really unique and had a good, laid back atmosphere. We went around 3 or 4 and it was not very busy. I did try to order food but I was told they were no longer taking food orders, which I thought was odd, since the menu said food was served all day. We ordered two lattes, which were good and they came out pretty quickly. If I lived in the area, I would probably go back, as it seems that they may take more kindly to locals.

I hate to write a negative review of a neighborhood place, but I thought it was really bad food. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel. The bagel itself was very stale, and both the bacon and egg were made in the microwave. The guy working was very nice, but I definitely won t be back, especially when there are such great places in church hill.

The very best place very family oriented. The staff here is like family. Very good coffee and ice coffee. The food here is amazing. This place is a must try. I come here 2-3 times a week. It makes you feel so important when the staff greets you by name. Tee and Felisha are the best.

You won't get better service than at Captain Buzzy's. My husband and I asked if they had vegan options. The owner said they didn't, but told us to bring him some ideas. He said he wanted to have options for everyone. He then proceeded to give us recommendations in the area for places that we could get vegan baked goods. The coffee is so good. It's one of my favorite places in town. I love going into a cafe/restaurant and feeling like I'm really valued, and Captain. Buzzy's is that kind of place!

This cozy, heavenly smelling coffee shop is a must-go if you're in Richmond. My son brought me here for a coffee for himself, and a chai for me, and neither of us were disappointed with what we received.
In fact, the barista advised my son against a coffee choice he'd made, and suggested a blend that he had roasted himself, guaranteeing its excellence.
The cookies we bought to go with our drinks were chewy and amazing. The shop itself is just the very definitions of artsy and interesting.
I'm hoping that at some point in my vacation I will be able to visit here again.

Definitely a local hangout but too laid back. I walked in the middle of a conversation between the guy at the counter and a lady. Stood at the register waiting to give my order. Waited. Waited. Went back to register after sitting down. Waited again. He never said a word. She apologize. Then he said, "We were in the middle of a conversation." Nice.

The place itself was fine .... a nice corner coffee shop in a pretty cool neighborhood ... my problem comes in when you add a "barista" that obviously wanted to be somewhere else and almost resented the fact he had customers..... and if he didn't want to be there then neither do I

Applesauce scones are fabulous!
After another year I had to revise my review. The Churchhill blend coffee has ruined me for other coffees. Have to stop in for beans every visit to RVA.

The people bring this place to life. The owner and all the employees can make your day. It's got way more character than the other coffee shops in the region. It's a cozy, quiet place to get some work done. Just be sure to bring a coat with you into the bathrooms-theyre cold!!

My first experience here was today after being referred by a friend and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, employees, as well as my coffee. It s a pretty cool local coffee place if you re wanting to support the church hill area while also getting your coffee fix. I was extremely pleased with the pricing, the quality of my iced coffee (and the iced coffee cubes!!), and the service I received!

The coffee leaves a strange after taste that I find to be very unpleasant, and since I live nearby, I've given this place multiple tries. I ve tried drip and iced coffee as well as lattes, and I always regret it. The staff is rude. The food is subpar; I believe it all comes from Costco. With subrosa, WPA and proper pie nearby, this is a place I never suggest.

New to town, I stopped by Captain Buzzy's per recommendation from a friend. I had a medium iced coffee (they freeze coffee to serve as their ice cubes, which is a really nice touch so your coffee doesn't get watered down). The coffee was quite bitter, but I didn't add any sweetener because I really wanted to let it stand alone my first time there. I had a spinach and feta scone that I've been dreaming about ever since. I was there to do some school work, but I forgot my headphones. They had a pretty loud radio show on that was a little distracting, so would recommend headphones if you plan to study. I'll be back!
