Balthazar Restaurant

As always my goto place to take my wife for her birthday, or our anniversary. I swear by Balthazar for a perfect French dinner.

A little bit of the left bank in Tribeca. Reliably good food. Great onion soup & "frites". Nice wine by the glass selection (rose at the bar is very good, and IMO: better than most on the list -- it's available by the bottle, if you ask). Pretty noisy but not impossible to have a conversation with tablemates.

The original French brasserie in NY. Still a great place to get lunch!

Very hectic on MLK day. Food was decent but service was slow. Onion soup was on the heavier and saltier side. Would I come back and wait for that long? Probably not

If you live in Sao Paulo, any brunch is better (and less expensive). The food is not bad at all, but does not live up to fame and certainly not worth it: Soho has many other better options and less "frufru" for breakfast and brunch.

Excellent food.

I went with my family Easter weekend. It was packed to the gills and really bustling, even though the dining room is actually quite large. It's loud, louder than most restaurants, likely due to the sheer number of tables. We had a reservation though and were immediately seated by a very friendly hostess. The cocktails were my favorite part of the meal, meticulously crafted and really delicious. The food for me was just ok. Nothing blew my mind, certainly not for the price, but service and presentation was excellent. I had a really gross issue with my first course, one that no restaurant would want posted publicly so I won't, but I'll say that it was handled appropriately by both the server and management. While I certainly could have made it a bigger deal, I let it go and tried the rest of what came to the table. Everything was fine from that point on. I would go back, but probably just for cocktails and starters, and some of that incredible bread!

Easy to find from the outside and makes a fine impression of everything inside very fine and nice. Best on reservation otherwise it will be hard to get the tables are nice and the store is great. There is always a lot going on, but despite this, things are going fast. The food was delicious but a little high priced.

Balthazar has been a New York staple for years, but it might now be bordering on tourist attraction. The atmosphere is classic French bistro but the prices are a bit more "upscale." Everything is good.

Beautifully designed restaurant with nice atmosphere, attentive and pleasant staff, and very good drinks and food... I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed. Recommended!

It is one my favorite restaurant in Manhattan. American style French Cuisine. Delicious meals, great wine selection. It is a traditional place always crowded but always good service. Little over than mediocre prices but definitely worth it. I recommend to reserve a table, otherwise you may have to wait an hour or so.

Great ambiance, food and service. Our "goto" when visiting NY

Have been coming here for years. Stunning venue, good (but not great food). However on the last couple of visits the service has been less than ordinary. Tonight had to beg to be served. Waiter arrogant, impatient and disinterested. While serving table alongside, he was leaning on my companion to the point she was almost out of her seat. Not a good look when the wait staff are so overwhelmed with themselves. Come on guys.. lift your game you are not that important.

The food was traditional french cuisine. The flavours was good, the presentation could be more refined.
The service was quite awful. Too much staff, most looked like they wanted go home.
In the end we had problems with your credit cards and the restaurant card terminal. This was handled very poorly. Ended up getting cash from ATM. The waitress did make up for it, but what I would think was the restaurant manager of some kind, did a very bad job.

Very disappointed with our visit here after being recommended by a friend and reading all of the hype.
Firstly, the tables and seating are crammed into this place. We found ourselves not being able to hear each other thanks to the table next to us.
We ordered the Corn Beef Hash and the Eggs Benedict along with both tea and coffee. My wife says her food was just ok and my food was very bland to say the least. It seems like I got given yesterday's potatoes with my meal and that was the tastiest part.
Paying nearly $70 for breakfast is quite a lot of money and I was expecting it to be outstanding for this cost. Left there very deflated.

One of the best restaurants in the world. If you come to NY, you have to try it.

Food isn't awesome for the price. But the food is very authentic, the ambiance is very parisine. Great selection of wines, and wonderful service. Very crowded and loud att dinner.

Ask for benedict eggs with avocado. Absolutely amazing.

Delicious, but I confess I almost froze the air conditioning ...

I love balthazar. I really love brunch at balthazar. The scrambled eggs in puff pastry just plain old make me happy. A latte and the bread basket for the table rounds things out. always full but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for the table. For larger parties I would most definitely recommend a reservation. Well made cocktails and the French Onion soup is a wonderland of cheesy wonderfulness...If nothing else pop in next door to the take away coffee/pastry outlet and grab a latte and a cider donut in the fall....

I waited a long time to get reservations to this place and I finally got to try it over memorial day weekend. I ordered the pan-roasted salmon, my husband ordered the steak frites as did my friend. We also ordered the chicken liver foie gras. The best of those dishes is the foie gras. It was so well done and smooth.

The steaks were overcooked and the salmon was undercooked. Everything was ordered medium rare. The salmon was more rare than medium as the center was still ice cold. The sides that came with the main dishes, however, were delicious.

Overall, I was very disappointed with the food, service (the table support team, not the waiter, kept spilling water all over our table and dishes when he refilled our cups) and the price. It's very costly for something that mediocre.

A very nice restaurant and delicious food, especially desserts. It was an incredible experience. We enjoy the taste of their dishes and the kind attention. I would like to come back.

We ordered small just to see how everything was. The steak was very good and the chicken was great. The hang up, was the price, when they serve french fries with all the entrees. Call them pommes frites or whatever but they are frnch fries. Now our waiter was outstanding! And they were on top of the water refills and getting plates out of the way. The hostess was super friendly and super model beautiful. But i believe its to distract you from Soho pricing. Also doorman was very nice. Ambience was very regular and retro NY. Not missing anything here.

Nice to stop here in the morning before all of the shops on and around Spring Street open at 11am. Great coffee, great hot chocolate, greater pastries and croissants (had the mixed pastry and bread basket)

Good brunch with lots of option. Would recommend the egg in puff pastry! We also had Norwegian egg and waffle which were both pretty good.

Been coming here since day one. You don't have to be famous here; they treat you right. Some might view Keith's restaurants as cookie cutter but who cares. Professional servers. Everyone from the bar staff to the front door to the coat check. They accomodate everyone. Including a party of eight that i saw there with a sleeping baby in a stroller tthat the parents didnt want to take out of the stroller. They were accomodated. Tables were moved. All good. That is not something you see in any city. I go here every week for dinner. Eighteen years and it just gets better. Yummy desserts, great selection of oysters, steaks done right. Half bottles of wine! 1/2 white for appetizers and 1/2 red for dinner. You are sure to walk out saying WOW! They have long term employees here. Most have been here since the beginning. It is also one of the only restaurants in New York that has retained it's female servers. For all of the places in NY that think having ditzy young girls on the floor is a good idea you need to check out Balthazar where all of.the servers get it right. Thank you Balthazar!

It has a sweet and charming ambience and the desserts were amazing. I had the mango cheesecake, it was yummy. A must try!

Great food and service. A little pricey, but mostly worth it.

Fantastic French bistro vibe and even better food. Super fresh seafood with large portions. A killer steak frites. And the wine list has some excellent choices on it from budget to baller prices.

After all these years Balthazar is still outstanding and a great place for a classic French dish in NYC. It s noisy and crowded in just the right way. Great service and terrific food in a bustling exciting atmosphere. We had the duck confit and steak frites...both of which were textbook perfect. Can t wait to go back.

Was excited to try after many recommendations to come here. The restaurant was beyond packed, past the point of enjoyment. The staff made us wait forever standing in the doorway well past our booking time and the food was very uneventful. The steaks were dripping with blood which saturated the chips into a soggy, blood ridden mess (they clearly hadn't been rested at all before plating and serving) which I would not expect from any resturant, let alone one of the calibre. Can't say I will return here.

Wow, amazing pastries here! Canele was fantastic as was the cheesecake!

Bakery items were not bad, although the canele wasn't great in my opinion

Does Balthazar even need another review? Just in case, I ll add mine, saying that since I first went 15 years ago (and yes it moved location since then), it has always been a Manhattan go-to for its consistent Balthazartastic New York brand of Paris. You want a delicious huge juicy steak with a thousand crispy salty fries and a big glass of red wine, this is where you go. Not somewhere else. Period.

We ate there for brunch on Sunday and after many good experiences, this meal was a HUGE disappointment. $30 for a crummy eggs benedict. Amazed we got a table upon walking in - now I know why. Won't be back.

Fantastic French brasserie. This is how a brasserie should be in my opinion.

Quality food. Loved my steak tartare. Great escargot. Excellent wine selection and service was good. Octopus good. Downs are it is cramped and it is loud. They stick as many people as they can in a tight space.
