I was hesitant but so glad we ended up going! We'd just recently been to an ok French place that was super expensive, but we were hungry and this place was open late so we chanced it. AMAZING. service fabulous. Food great. Highly recommended. If you're in Whistler - EAT HERE.

A great, intimate feeling dinner spot in the heart of Whistler. During covid they are charging $20 an person for reservations, but don't let this deter you. The food is original and tasty, the service impeccable. Serving sizes are on the smaller side, but we both walked away happy. We also felt safe and supported the entire time. Recommend sitting on the heated patio and the "dinner for two" option.

While enjoying a weekend away on whistler, we faced the challenge of not making a reservation ahead. We were lucky to snag a spot at Alta, not knowing how amazing it would be.
Alta is not your typical burger joint. This fantastic location puts a lot of hard work into their customer service and the gorgeous and delicious food they offer. I recomend highly and LOVED each item we tried. Smaller but rich and filling portions.

Elk tartare
Crispy fettuccine
Bison burger
Midnight cocktail
Cashew cheesecake
Moscow mule
Calamari confit

Not one to leave reviews... but after becoming enthralled with french cuisine whilst on a bender in New Orleans (who would have thought?), finding places that serve up similar delights whilst visiting new locale...well one might say...became somewhat of a guilty pleasure. To that end, and by pure happenstance, I found out that, in a fortnight, I'd find myself Whistler....

When the trip finally arrived- post travel, and well situated in the Westin...like the Star of Bethlehem, Yelp guided me to this establishment called Alta Bistro.

Hard to imagine there is a better restaurant than this in Whistler. The service is friendly, helpful and (perhaps most importantly) truly knowledgeable about the food and wine. The food is French but creative and interesting and exciting without being too off-base. Wine list and cocktail selection are very strong. Will definitely return next time I m in town.

Best restaurant in Whistler, and much better than Araxi which is supposedly the gold standard. At Alta, we had the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairings and loved every dish. A couple of the dishes were so unique and delicious that I kept talking about them days later. The service was warm and attentive, but not stuffy. The wine menu was decent, and the wine pairings were clearly done by someone who knows what they are doing. It's a smaller intimate restaurant with the ambiance to match. Good date spot.

Normally I don't leave negative reviews, but I also think that feedback is a part of the evolution of a business. A friend and I had dinner here October 2017. It was probably one of the worst restaurant meals I've had, ever. I had the 3-course meal for $29. The portions were tiny, and it ended up being a good thing because the food was awful. The soup was okay, we paid extra for the sourdough bread which was the highlight of the evening, the kale salad was very strange, the pork entree was absolutely terrible, very strange tasting (barely edible).

Dessert was extra, and we thought we couldn't go wrong with the sorbet. I've never had a sorbet that I didn't at least like, if not love, until now. We both had one spoonful and both put our spoons down. It was terrible. We asked the server what was in it and he said there was pickle juice in it. Wait what? Why would you put pickle juice in a sorbet? There is no way that this was in any way, shape or form, dessert. (Which they did take off the bill.)

We ordered a bottle of wine, and the they were sold out of the first 2 picks on their wine list, and the 3rd pick they had which was great, but they didn't make the wine (luckily).

It really seemed like an experimental menu. And I would say, if you are going to experiment with food, ensure to let people know. Maybe the servers could have guided us to the better choices on the menu.

We left totally unsatisfied and unfilled by the experience. Unless there is a major change in the menu, it's not our cup of tea.

The food here is amazing! Plus they source their food locally and have sustainable practices.

We had the cod schintzel, potatoes, tempura mushrooms, oysters and dark chocolate cheesecake and all the flavors and textures of the food melded so well together. The fresh oysters were paired with vodka ice, housemade hot sauce and horseradish and I've been craving it ever since. And don't get me started on the cheesecake, it was a whole different experience with the fermented cherries and roasted walnuts.

Can't wait to visit whistler and eat here again!

Alta Bistro is the definition of French cuisine, small portions and large prices. Entrees are not shareable and you'll have to order apps, dessert, and lots of wine to not have to go to kfc afterwards to not feel hungry.

Don't get me wrong the food is quite good here, it's more like a food art experience. Your dishes will come out in 3D abstract forms that'll make you hit pause to admire it before you chow down.

So here's the breakdown of what we had:

Halibut-$46 cooked to perfection and served with a thick tempura like broccoli, plump mussels, and another veggie that I can't name? Maybe it's a parsnip? It said it came with a green curry sauce which was tasty but not very strong in flavor. I personally like the halibut in the bison entree sauce.

Bison-$42 This was some tasty meat! I only got five thin slices of it and tiny speck on a bone, but it was good. It made me wish the polenta, carrots and string bean art, was more meat!

Lentil mushroom salad-$15 if I were a rabbit this would be the meal I always prayed to god for. It's like eating a fresh garden of lentils. It's a unique taste, the lentils were almost raw but not, so I'll assign the adjective "fresh" to it. I did really like the sweetly marinated mushrooms in it.

Sourdough bread-$6 it's bread that's sourdough, and made in house. It's like a darker wheat type, which is different.

Spiced white chocolate mousse cake-$13 this was the big winner of the evening! It was topped with sweet crunchy coconut like candy flakes and a strawberry jam and fennel seeds that just wakes up the palate. I hope this stays on the menu if it changes.

The wine list is very extensive but they only had two types of Pinot noir by the glass one from burgundy the other from Naramata, BC and both went so well with the bison and halibut. Definitely buy the bottle of either of you're going to have two glasses each.

Service here is great, our server was super friendly and carried out requests quickly. The rest of the team was cheery and checked up on us a lot. Definitely make reservations or you'll be SOL, they get busy!

I just couldn't do the full five stars because of the disparity between pricing and quantity of what you get. I understand these ingredients and meats are organic, local and of super quality, but at the end of the day perceived value is important too. I wasn't really wow'd and unfortunately the meal fell a little short on value.

Had an excellent dinner at Alta Bistro. Our server and the rest of the staff were friendly, explained the dishes well and provided options and alternatives. Most importantly the food was delicious and somewhat unique. I had the pork belly with freshly sourced pine nuts and mushrooms. My girlfriend and I had an experience that would make us want to go again.

Excellent service. Solid wine menu. Food is definitely good, but the mix of ingredients is a bit overdone, they just try too hard and the result is less than ideal than if they kept things a little simpler. Food was also a bit on the salty side.

Lastly we found the quality/price ratio to be imbalanced... but then you are in Whistler so I guess that s the name of the game.

Drinks were good
Apps were good but overpriced
Entrees were between average to terrible
Salmon was average, risotto was awful, pork belly was a elegant hotdogs and beans
Don't order desert

We really liked the ambience/decor and the concept behind this restaurant (everything local!). For example, instead of ketchup made from tomatoes you'll get beet ketchup (a local available ingredient).

We did the 3 course meal for $30, both upgrading our entrees (to the burger and the short ribs). The cured/smoked tuna was DELICIOUS. The black barley risotto wasn't very good - underflavoured and undercooked. The short ribs were GREAT. The burger was a bit too salty.

Our server was very attentive, however, the courses came out very slowly. The server apologized for the delays and we weren't in a hurry so it was no problem. It might be a good idea to get some bread as that would probably come out more quickly than the other dishes.

Good-great pricey food, excellent service, but this once down-to-earth chic foodie restaurant has lost its soul. Screaming babies, beeping video game iPADS, and sticky floors are compatible with family fun but with not a fine dining experience. Once our favourite Whistler restaurant, sadly is no longer.

Absolutely amazing, attentive and we'll refined service. Wine suggestions on point for the two of us who have different palates. The menu did not have any of my go-tos which was a blessing because I ordered outside my comfort zone and was not disappointed by a single course. This restaurant is a must when visiting Whistler!

When overwhelmed with so many wonderful food choices, it's sometimes best to just try everything!

It took us a little to find Alta, but it was worth it. It has a very relaxed modern feel to it, great service, and the food is absolutely out of this world.

I highly recommend both making reservations and ordering the chefs plate with the wine pairings. It was a meal I'm not going to forget.

The positives of this place for us were that it had good atmosphere despite all the Covid precautions. And it had great prompt service - the staff were there when needed and didn't bother you the rest of the time.

The negatives were: they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity. I guess it's somewhat Covid related. But it would be nice to be informed ahead of time and not be surprised when the bill arrives. It's a bit presumptuous on their part.
The food, although having a unique take on some traditional dishes, wasn't particularly impressive in terms of taste. We had the variation of pakoras, squid, arctic char and steak (the steak was fine).
So combine that with fairly small portions and a high price point, it was a bit of a disappointment for us.
Perhaps we'll give it another shot when the menu changes. But for now we'll stir away.

Alta Bistro, little disappointed at being Nickel and Dimed on my dinner for example $5 for a bread basket even tho i order soup! $4 for a glass of tap water even tho i order beer wine and a cocktail not like i was going cheap! and two out of 3 courses good but not exceptional. People's of Whistler saves yer money and go to RimRock.....

A hidden gem in the heart of Whistler village. I was a little nervous upon seeing the size of the appetizers but the generous mains made up for it. A great menu that is small enough to ensure high quality good but enough options. Managed to get an early table with only a little notice. It got a bit rowdy later on in the service but the staff were friendly and helpful and every dish was spot on. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. Good wine selection at most price levels. Great for a special occasion on holiday treat!

A great Whistler spot. Sat at the bar and loved the service from the cool bartender. Great, interesting cocktails and loved the cheese plate. More fussy food than what I m looking fir when I m on Whistler but still a strong fine dining option in an BC area with too much so so food.

Top notch. The food was so good it made me speechless (we had the 3 courses for $30 option). Everything from the flavours to the textures and plating was beautifully done. The servers were 'just right' in terms of attentiveness, and overall we had one of the best meals of our lives at Alta Bistro. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

A really excellent restaurant. This isn't the type of place people come to for big portions but for people who want to experience and appreciate the artistry of food. I had the $39 3-course set menu and everything was cooked and prepared excellently. Although portions were not big, I still walked away from the restaurant feeling very satisfied.

Eric and the Alta Bistro team catered our wedding in Pemberton, out of their self-contained airstream trailer. The food was amazing, and was displayed and served beautifully by their team. All the guests were raving about it. This team was amazing, would highly recommend!

No photos tonight.
Once again an absolutely outstanding meal from the team at Alta Bistro.
We live in Vancouver but this is by far my favourite restaurant in BC.
The complexities and composition of each dish is beyond what most restaurants are willing or able to achieve.
I hope Whistler residents can appreciate how fortunate they are to have this room in their grasp.

What a great place to have a fine dining experience. The servers were really helpful and extremely informative on every dish. All the dishes had deep levels of flavor and textures. We were really impressed by the presentation of each dish also. We had a great date night here.

Great dining experience. Fresh take on table dividers- visually appealing whilst maintaining health safety at same time! They had local and fresh ingredients. Purple broccoli! The calamari was a delight. Would recommended if you are looking for a place at after 9pm when most places are closed.

Went to Alta Bistro last night for the third time this summer. We had an incredible experience every time. Jessica paired up the wines to our dishes very well and Lilian (I think that s what her name was ) provided exceptional service. The chef catered to our allergies without hesitation and made a personalized desert dish that we recommended they put on the menu full time. Will certainly be dining in at Alta Bistro again soon!

Fresh farm to table food.

Glad we came back here again. The food is so fresh and tasty. Great friendly service. We had the Lox and the elk Tartar foie Gras. They were both good. The Elk Tartare was fantastic. We also had the Pork and the Duck breast for dinner both were full of flavour and delicious. Cocktails were made fresh and yummy.

A great place for fine dining in Whistler.

This was one of our favorite meals in Whistler. Off the main village walkway, the food was delicious and service friendly and knowledgeable. We were attracted to the menu, which featured a few interesting, vegan dishes and enjoyed everything we ate. We also brought our children who loved their grilled cheese and smashed potatoes. It will for sure become a regular spot for us.
