Founded in 2012, the BioEconomy Cluster was one of the winners of the Leading-Edge Cluster Competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). From 2012 to 2017, a total of 80 million euros (50 % of which was contributed by industry) was invested in bioeconomy research as part of Leading-Edge Cluster funding. Research was intensively carried out in 45 joint projects and approx. 150 subprojects.
