Very poor quality of screening a poodle prior to adoption
We recently (yesterday) adopted a beautiful poodle from this organization. Today, we noticed that after she urinated, there were blood clots from her vulva. She was spayed 9 days ago. We took her to our vet because of the blood. A urinalysis showed a significant urinary tract infection. On further examination a very severe bilateral ear infection was found. Also, her eyes have inverted lids causing discharge and crusting. The vet suspects that she was either in heat or pregnant when she was spayed. The spay clinic in SC has no idea whether she was in heat or pregnant at the time of surgery. We were told that the eye crusts that were in her eyes when we got her were caused by the dust and dirt in her enclosure. We were also told when we contacted them regarding the bleeding that we should take the dog for an examination. The vet to whom we took her stated that the UTI was probably there when we got her and the ear infection to be as bad as it is has been there for some time. On top of the $500+ dollars to adopt her, we now have a $310 vet bill. I would definitely caution anyone adopting from this rescue to make sure the dog has been examined by a reputable vet before taking the dog home and paying the fees.
