restaurant quality savory pies, delicious sweets
I made a very large delivery order from Ackroyd's Scottish Bakery based largely on the fact that they had reasonably priced authentic clotted cream and scones. I was slightly worried about what I might get given that I'd never had their food before, but I was very pleased with everything that I received.
My favorite items were the chicken curry pies and the Bakewell tarts, but everything was fresh and enjoyable. Their pastry is exceptional. It's flaky, buttery, and baked perfectly. The pie was what I'd expect to be served at a restaurant in terms of the quality.
The scones are authentic rather than the overly bready, cakey, or sweet scones that tend to be sold in most places in the U.S. I warmed one up a bit and had it with jam and clotted cream and it was a little taste of afternoon tea. The "butteries" were a new experience for me, but they were a lovely, not-too-sweet, pastry option for breakfast.
Everything I received was very carefully packed and the cold packs were still frozen when my order arrived, and I ordered in August when it was still hot. My order was fulfilled within a day and arrived three business days after placing my order. I will absolutely be ordering from them again.
