Dreadful, rude, ignorant, arrogant and unprofessional. Made numerous mistakes in the contract and emails I had to correct, including the amount we agreed on. Walked dirt across my room, made imbecilic and offensive comments about my chronic pain and disability, wiped dust and mould into the air when he was told I have extremely dangerous allergic asthma, and continually stated that the house of my elderly parents was ‘filthy’ and ‘covered in shit’ (which it isn’t, quite obviously) and that they could ‘at least do something about it’. A throughly disgusting man. Avoid.
He had a small job to do in one room. That’s it. Arrived at the house with a odd prickly attitude, walked straight past me when I opened the door and said ‘where is it?’ Then proceeded to stomp upstairs without removing his dirty shoes or asking, and walk straight across my bedroom, which had delicate musical equipment and papers in it, without a word of courtesy. Its basic manners to at least ask if you should take your shoes off when in someone’s property.
He then wiped his hand all over the wall where there was dust and potentially mould despite having been told I have severe allergy triggered asthma. I had to run out of the room as have had ambulances for much less.
He was marching all over the house, calling it filthy, making comments on every room, and repeatedly stating, word for word, that it was ‘covered in shit’ and that my elderly parents and their disabled son should have done something about it. An incredible attitude from someone who turned up, slovenly, dilapidated and out of shape, tramping ‘shit’ and mud from his filthy shoes all over the house. I was so caught up in how surreal it all was as he was only meant to deal with one window in one room, and that I’d signed a contract, that it took me until he was standing still and at the door to absorb it all and respond.
It was there that he started, INCREDIBLY, to comment that he believed my diagnosed severe allergic asthma, severe chronic pain, and two other physical health conditions, which have kept me out of work, housebound, in pain, for many years, and are intensely difficult to live with, treated by a multitude of doctors and specialists, about which he had the impressions of several minutes’ acquaintance, were ‘in my head’. That was where I informed him of his ignorance at which he shrugged turned on his heels and left before I was able to deliver him his other rather egregious failings.
Mr Clayson, you are a Dickensian grotesquerie and I very much, very much, welcome you to try taking this up with me again, to my face.
Judge for yourself whether someone with this level of self awareness, and decision making is likely to be competent in their profession. I’ve never known anything like it, outside of fiction.
I had barely time to catch my breath through the whole thing, or fully absorb just how unprofessional his comments were, or I’d have chucked him out and let him know exactly how ridiculous his behaviour was within seconds. Unlike mr Clayton however, I have the decency to respect responsibilities both civil and professional.
A magical experience all round.
Addendum: my parents are old, as is their house in a country village, but it is far cleaner than a lot of properties next to fields, notwithstanding a couple of cobwebs here and there. The only foul smell in the house was the appalling lack of manners or social graces of its unwanted visitor.
