Negligence, Miscommunication & Carelessness – I Lost My Grandfather Due to This Hospital
We admitted my grandfather to KMC Heart City, Trichy for CABG surgery after being assured by all doctors, including Dr. Senthil Kumar, that he was fit for surgery and that the operation would improve his quality of life. On the morning of June 23rd, he was taken to the OT at 7 AM, and the doctor arrived around 10 AM. The surgery ended by 2 or 3 PM, but no one informed us about how it went until much later, after the doctor had finished attending to outpatients.
Initially, my grandfather seemed to recover – he was speaking, walking a little, and even drank coconut water. But we noticed that his stomach was bloating, and shockingly, the nurses and ICU staff failed to notice this. We raised this issue, and only then did they take it seriously. Still, the response was delayed. They claimed it could be due to obstruction or infection but did not involve gastro or infection specialists from the nearby block in time.
We were left constantly confused – different doctors gave conflicting information about his condition on the same day. Some said he was fine, others said he was critical. After 15 days post-surgery, they kept him without food in the ICU, citing gastric issues, but never gave us a proper diagnosis. No second opinion was sought until we demanded it. Even worse, we were sent home saying he would be fine, but the very next day, we were called back to receive his body. How can a hospital be this heartless?
One of the worst parts was the shift to another block for a CT scan. They shifted my grandfather via the underground passage, and Dr. Preethi came running halfway with medicine, asking, “Why did you shift him without the medicine?” This kind of carelessness and lack of coordination cost us dearly. Later, we thought that he may have caught an infection from the shift itself.
Even Dr. Preethi made an insensitive remark, saying “Only your grandfather is here for more than 10 days. There are only 10 ICU beds available.” We strongly feel that due to this pressure to vacate beds, proper treatment was withheld, and it cost him his life.
No gastroenterologist or infection specialist came at the right time. We were told that some were away attending a wedding. Dr. Aravind from the Tennur branch visited only after serious complaints, and he said there was no severe gastro issue at all. Dr. Saravanan from the infection team barely stayed a minute.
On July 7th, Dr. Praveen Kumar told us in the morning that there was hope. Just a few hours later, he told us my grandfather was deteriorating fast and they didn’t know why. Such a sudden collapse without explanation is deeply painful and suspicious.
The cardiac team’s post-op care was shockingly poor, and the gastro team was inexperienced and disinterested. Throughout, they failed to coordinate, kept blaming each other, and treated our family with no compassion. Dr. Praveen Kumar was especially insensitive and unprofessional.
Even the security staff was rude and shouted at attenders like we were animals. On top of all this, they never failed to remind us about payment, but couldn’t even give proper diagnosis or care.
We lost a beloved family member due to this hospital’s neglect, lack of transparency, poor coordination, and shocking insensitivity.
Please do not trust KMC Heart City, Trichy with your loved one’s life. We learned it the hard way.
