Had a home in a John Houston development that these people did the plumbing on. After inspecting it during top out I noticed many code deficiencies and bad practices.
I contacted the TSPBE that oversees plumbing in Texas and turned them in.
TSBPE came out and looked at the problems, I believe the investigator's name was Larry, and he red tagged them and had them do the work over.
Told the prospective homeowner about the problems and they walked away from the build as I was told.
Same project had illegal electrical installed.
I turned them in to the TDLR and they came out and made them correct it.
You gotta be real careful in subdivisions that are in the county where state inspectors are not mandatory, or was not in 2000.
No oversight to keep corrupt contractors and builders from creating future hazards and possible deaths by not working according to Texas code.
These codes are here for a reason. To protect the customer.
It's a shame that some of the contractors and especially builders don't follow the rules/laws.
If you are having a home built in a county where no state inspectors are required, tell the builder you are going to hire your own inspector (an engineer would be good instead of several work specific inspectors from neighboring cities) and if the builder squawks, run. They don't want any eyes on their work.
