I would not recommend KDL construction. I would hi...
I would not recommend KDL construction. I would highly recommend if you considered KDL that you have an attorney review the contract and hire a home or property inspector. The contract that was presented to us by KDL was a lump sum contract. That means you have no idea what you are paying for the plumbing, electrical work, cabinets, tiles and so forth.
Why I would not recommend KDL for the following reasons.
1. The purpose of our renovation was to have a walk-in shower that requires no shower door or curtain. KDL insisted that the design they developed was a walk-in shower. It is not.
2. The second purpose goes along with number 1 above. That is to have a shower that leaves no water on the floor. The design they developed leaves water on the floor from water splashes that they were warned about.
3. They did not order enough floor tile. (mis order)
4. They had a number of other mis orders.
5. The contract stated that the length of time to complete the project was 6 to 8 weeks or 42 to 56. It took 25 weeks or 175 days to complete the project.
6. Poor communication between their employees, subcontractors and us.
If that is not enough to give you second thoughts, I am working on a complaint with the North Carolina Contractor Licensing Board. That complaint will be more detailed with pictures, emails, text messages, and other information.
This is in response to KDL response.

The September request for payment was a problem for me. My wife thought that if we made the payment KDL would quickly finish the project. I thought otherwise. It took until November 25 to complete the project. It until the middle of January for them to deliver part. However, the September is a way for KDL to pit husband against wife or wife against husband. They seemed to enjoy conflict.
I see no remorse in the response. I guess a client is supposed to be happy because you finished a project that does not meet the objective that the client deserved. KDL was hard press to change their minds about the shower not being a walk-in shower. I was told to give up on my complaining because the shower meets code and that I had no recourse.
I guess the client is supposed to be happy when the project takes three times as long as stated in the contract.
I guess the client is supposed to be happy with all KDL shortcomings.
Homeowner has the right to talk to the building inspector. I guess KDL was nervous about that when a contractor should not be if everything is ok. Really, it was all about control. KDA is all about meeting code and not about meeting standards.
A person gets really frustrated when you are just lessoning to bull. You get smug smiles and defensives answers. What I see is KDL is all about KDL. It about control to meet their agenda.
I like small businesses but also needs to perform.
KDL has been apparently contacting client to get a review. Not taking anything away from the reviews, they would mean more if they were not solicited. Below is one picture that shows the quality of work that KDL performs. The picture indicates that the water would/does drain away from the drain. In other words, the shower floor slopes away from the drain. What kind of contractor is this? You decide.
Still no remorse.
