Do not work there
As a former employee, I have to say that this college, for all its self-patting on the back is full of lies. A4 sheets pinned to walls everywhere about it's Diversity, re-cycling, anti-bullying, etc and yet very few things are re-cycled properly, all going into separate skips and then put into 1 huge lorry to be mixed up inside. Bullying goes on everywhere but when it is your word against 5 others, you haven't much chance of challenging it. Many people have been driven out but the people who can police the whole situation are those who are doing the bullying. Certain cleaning staff get away with doing hardly anything whilst other staff have to make up the shortcomings by doing the extra work. The reason for this would be certain supervisors having their favourites and allowing them to get away with all sorts like time off and never having to make up the time they have missed. During a time of bereavement, the managers will decide what time you have off, depending on who you are so you could get a month or you could get 5 days. There is supposed to be a uniform policy for cleaners and groundsmen but that is all made up on the spot so you might be told off for wearing a pair of shorts you have worn for 3 years without a problem whilst some cleaners come dressed as though they were going to a nightclub. There are too many awful things to mention about this college but the fact that the turnover of staff is higher than other educational establishments, will tell you all you need to know.
