Come on Sanibel Police. You can do better..
Went to Sanibel Island in March 19, 2024.
Found the parking area. Saw a person sitting in a vehicle. Later said she worked for the Sanibel PD. Around 12:20 pm on this date. Parking lot west of the lighthouse.
Complaint: People come into the parking and have no idea what do do. Where to go to pay, if they even have to pay, how to pay. The location, that eventually people found is very confusing to understand to pay for parking.
Why isn’t the police person located at the entrance directing people how and where to pay? Instead of just sitting in her car at the far end of the lot away from everyone.
She sees people walking around wondering where and how to pay parking. It’s so obvious many don’t know what to do.
Complaint: To pay a simple $5 parking fee takes about 15 minutes to try and figure out how to do so. The police lady doesn’t make herself available. And to pay by credit card you have to provide a large amount of personal information. Takes a lot of time, is intrusive. Yet, you can only pay by credit card.
Why not have the police lady who sits in her car doing nothing, have a cash box and have people pay $5 by cash to her? How long does that take? 10 seconds. Much quicker, much easier, much less intrusive. Doesn’t put people in a foul mood with the confusion and delay to get to the beach.
Why are the police even charging for parking in a public area, essentially a park? Don’t people in the area pay property and school taxes? Who getting rich with this fee?
Come on Sanibel police. Do better. Remember who pays your salaries.
We’re not paying you to sit in an air conditioned car, ignoring people, failing to help people, who pay your salaries. Or having parking pay systems that are inconvenient to your public. And annoying.
