BEWARE of Hawkins Construction Company
My experience with Hawkins Construction Company was deeply frustrating from start to finish. I originally contacted them for the replacement of two deck areas and was given a quote along with a scheduling estimate of 2–4 weeks. That timeline changed repeatedly — first to 4–6 weeks, then 6–8 weeks once I paid the deposit.
At the six-week mark, I called to check on the start date and was told it would be another 2–3 weeks. At that point, I asked about a refund of my deposit so I could hire someone who could meet my deadline. Instead of addressing the issue, I was told someone would “check.” The owner, Christian, called two days later and only then offered to start demo the next day — something that should never have required me to chase them down.
Throughout the project, communication was inconsistent and unprofessional. I repeatedly had to follow up about scheduling, including the tile work, which was a three-day job and critical because we had professional photos scheduled to list our home. Despite knowing this, Christian admitted he had not even contacted his tile person. After I had already waited nine weeks — beyond the original estimate — and after I had asked for a refund at week six so I could hire someone else.
The crew ultimately worked until 10:30 PM the night before photos just to get the decks mostly finished. Even then, the railings on the two decks did not match, something I noticed immediately. When I asked why, I was told, “I would have tried to sell you on going a whole different direction,” which made no sense and did not address the issue.
I was also told there was rotted wood, but my husband confirmed the wood was not rotted and still held nails. It felt like Christian assumed he could take advantage of me because I’m a woman. When I pushed back or asked reasonable questions, I was told not to “have an attitude,” which was both dismissive and unprofessional.
When the work was finally done, I asked for the invoice to be updated because some of the quoted work was not completed by them. I was told, “That is not how this works.” Eventually they did adjust the invoice, but it was not fully itemized.
The final invoice was sent on April 21, 2026, with payment due May 21, 2026. Despite that, I received calls on April 23 and again on May 6 asking about payment. When I reminded them the invoice wasn’t due yet, I was again told I “didn’t need to get an attitude.” After waiting ten weeks for them to complete the job, the fact that they couldn’t wait the four weeks stated on their own invoice was unbelievable.
Overall, this company was unreliable, unprofessional, and dismissive. The constant shifting of timelines, lack of communication, mismatched materials, and condescending tone made this one of the worst contractor experiences I’ve ever had. I would not recommend Hawkins Construction Company to anyone looking for honest, dependable, or respectful service.
