Balanced but Honest Review
Balanced but Honest Review
Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to make an appointment with an OB-GYN, especially when you’re experiencing symptoms that make you feel like something isn’t right with your body. After waiting nearly a month for my appointment, I went in hoping to talk through what I’ve been experiencing and get some guidance.
Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. When I tried to explain my symptoms and concerns about possible pre-menopause, I was quickly shut down and told “pre-menopause is not a thing.” I was also told that a half hysterectomy “is not a thing,” in a way that felt dismissive rather than educational.
Throughout the visit I felt talked over while the PA continued typing instead of engaging in a conversation about my concerns. I had scheduled the appointment expecting an exam, but no exam was performed. In the end I was simply told to try some pills and sent on my way.
By the time the appointment ended, I was in tears and completely shut down. When patients come in with vulnerable concerns about their health, empathy and listening matter just as much as medical knowledge. I left feeling unheard and unsupported.
I hope this feedback encourages the practice to focus more on listening to patients and making them feel comfortable discussing difficult health concerns.
