“A quick caution about mobile grooming add‑on charges”
I booked appointment for my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and was quoted $145. My dog was brushed thoroughly beforehand and is calm and easy to groom. When the appointment ended, I was charged $175 with no prior notice of a price increase.
The groomer added a flea‑bath fee. My dog is on vet flea prevention and had no fleas when I brushed her just before the groomer arrivedThe groomer later said she found only three live fleas and the rest were “dead,” which is consistent with flea medication working — not a situation requiring an unapproved chemical bath.
I had also informed her before the appointment that my dog has allergies and very sensitive skin. I would not have authorized a flea bath under any circumstances without a discussion first. A chemical treatment should never be applied to a dog with known sensitivities without consent.
The groomer claimed the flea bath was required for sanitation, but a grooming van can be sanitized without treating the dog. Sanitation is routine between appointments.
The grooming itself was fine, but the unauthorized service, lack of communication, and inconsistent explanations were disappointing. Transparency and consent matter, especially when a dog has medical issues.
