I took my 8-9 year old cat to Hartrick Vet. Clinic who diagnosed her with either a heart condition or stress. My baby was not eating and was panting occasionally. She had no signs of being under stress and never had a heart condition or any other illness but something definitely was not right. I had a hard time with this diagnoses as it just didn't make sense to me.
I was NEVER offered limited bloodwork by Hartrick as I would have gladly opted for something to tell me what was wrong with my baby. I was sent home with some medication to increase her appetite. The medication did not work and I took my baby to another Vet. for a second opinion as she was still not acting right.
The second Vet. worked with me as far as finances went and instead of thousands of dollars worth of tests, she offered limited bloodwork which was much more reasonable and affordable which I graciously and immediately opted to have performed. Again, Hartrick NEVER offered me this limited bloodwork which they easily could have done! The bloodwork revealed my cat was anemic! If Hartrick would have offered this limited bloodwork, the anemic could have been detected weeks earlier, saving my baby and myself from more discomfort and stress.
I was sent home with steroids for my cat on Thursday afternoon. I stayed with my little girl Friday and she slept in my bed Friday night and I was up the entire night with her. On Saturday morning, she even followed me in the kitchen while I got her food ready. She still would not eat and she went back in my room.
I left for a few minutes to feed my other animals and when I went back to check on her, I was devastated and horrified. I found my sweet baby under my bed dead. IT WAS TOO LATE TO SAVE HER. I am beyond upset. PLEASE VETERINARIANS, TRY TO OFFER YOUR PATIENTS THE BEST TREATMENTS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND IF YOU HAVE MORE REASONABLE TESTS TO OFFER, DO IT! MAKING MONEY SHOULD NOT BE YOUR ONLY OBJECTIVE. CARING FOR THE ANIMALS SHOULD.
