I have made several social visits to Yarl's Wood over the course of the past 2-3 weeks. Reading online I was nervous as there is a lot of bad press, but I have been surprised by how accommodating the staff are, how clean the centre is (visiting areas) and feedback from my friend from inside.
It is obviously a difficult situation for anyone to be in, and talking about immigration laws is a completely different subject. Emotions run high and I was distraught that it had to happen, but thank you to the staff for being so respectful under the circumstances.
What a fantastic job they do here. This is a clean safe environment for those in society for whatever reason need there status verified before being allowed to enjoy the fantastic benefits afforded to all in this country. Those that rate this at 1 star or less are misguided imbeciles who perhaps should look to the likes of the usa/ Russia to see the reality of oppressive government.
Horrible place to visit. As a visitor you will be treated as a criminal and you won't feel comfortable. You will go through quite a few checks. They like to call the residents detainees but they are in actuality prisoners. If you are going to meet friends or family I recommend you go but be prepared. Some of the prisoners are prone to violence and it's not right that you have normal decent people mixed up with them. Drugs are common place and are supplied either by way of visitors, prison guards or plumbers, locksmiths etc.
I go here for work a couple of times a month, moving detainees. It's clean and the staff are friendly and efficient. There's a section for females, and another for males coming from lorry drops. It all sits on an industrial estate, and there are a couple of ways of getting here; do be aware that most sat-nav systems will try to bring you here via the back way, which will be inaccessible to you unless you're a service vehicle and armed with an access fob. One last word of warning: at night, the approach is over-run by an army of kamikaze death-wishing rabbits that bolt across the street without prejudice. Sadly, I've killed two of them in less than a year...
This facility offers a fantastic and much-needed service to the country. Clean, robust and professional.
we need a better way to deal with illegal immigration thats more humane but at the end of the day how much is it going to cost us, this is like a bubble waiting to be burst.
Some judges here literally do not allow any appeals.... And every so often they tend to be so kind and forgiven to Home Office while unreasonably strict to the appellants. Immigration appeals are like gambles
Very difficult to get to this place. My advise is work out your journey online before you leave your location to assist you when your navigator plays up. I have been to this site several times but I've never been able to reach there without problems....I've had to U-turn on many occasions after losing my way.
