Visiting from out of town we stumbled upon this place. Great food, great music, and great people. Can't imagine this isn't a local favorite - would definitely be mine if I lived here!!

What a FABULOUS place. not pretentious but incredible varied menu of smoked meats, sandwiches (the smoked potato salad was out of this world). My son and I ate there today and frankly in all my years I have not had a better sandwich, fresh, tasty, filling in all my 60 years. Don't pass this place by. Better yet, RUN to this place. For a girl from Pennsylvania frankly I am hard pressed to think of anything better than the Wood Shack and we have lots of great eateries in PA. Finally, not only extremely clean but the owner Hope and her husband were friendly and caring to detail.
Tasty sandwiches at a good price. Didn't see it online but they have gluten free bread! They apparently also have GF desserts as well but I didn't try those this time. Will definitely be back!
Food is good, not great. Location is cute and they have a lot of healthy options. Neither friendly nor unfriendly staff, sorta awkward dining experience.
Small bar and restaurant. You can smell the smoke on you the rest of the day. Decent selection. I had the mule kick. Nice flavors but just lacked moisture. Slaw just ok. Mac and cheese above average.
Lovely unique food offerings. Delicious, tasty. Check it!
Pretty impressive menu for a little hole in the wall kind of place. The staff are very friendly and out going. The food is delicious and portion size is awesome. The sandwich I had was called the Soulard primer. Wood smoked prime rib, bone marrow aioli, arugula, caramelized onions and Bleu cheese on a french roll. Don't knock it til you try it, it was fantastic down til the last bite. My wife got the Mac and cheese boat with ham and it was phenomenal as well. Get down here and try it, you'll thank me later.
Great food and fantastic beer. The staff is wonderful.
Good food, friendly staff, uncomfortable seating, esp if you are short.
Small place, but mighty tasty! Consider the daily special
Delicious food and very accommodating staff. They made me a oil and vinegar coleslaw when I complained they only had creamy! Didn't expect that.
Great food, nice owner and staffs, relaxing. Will visit again.
Good sandwhiches and atmosphere!! Employees very nice and quick with service.
Great sandwiches! Solid menu with plenty of options. Ended up getting the Reuben, it was on special and I was not disappointed. Forgot what the old lady got but she dug it too. Plus , they had solid fries and housemade sauces. Great additions. Going back 109%!
Great sandwiches. I didn't like the side my friend got, but I'm not that into mac and cheese so maybe I'm the weirdo. Staff was very friendly.
I was really excited to see a new restaurant in the Soulard area and The Wood Shack did not disappoint. I've been here twice for work lunches and can wholeheartedly recommend the Gurley-Wich and the Ragin' Cajun sandwiches. Full of flavor, great portion for the price!
Delicious sandwiches in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. Will be back.
A good sandwich, enjoyed the location, but lost a star as it was good, just not on par with the best. No reason to skip as your opinion might differ. Mac N Cheese was nothing too special as well, but still good
Incredible food! The menu is very well thought out you'll definitely want one of everything! We will be back for sure. Such a great find!
Great sandwich! Great options and cold beer. Love this place!
Fast service waiter and front of house was not too nice
This place is a hidden gem. The food was outstanding and the ambiance was great! The lady that took my order was very friendly and helpful answer my questions. The only cons are limited seating and parking.
Awesome food, great atmosphere, wait staff was excellent, very cozy all in historic Soulard...will definitely be returning to try something off of their excellent menu...Soulard Prime sandwich with mac-n-cheese was superb!!
Over charged 5 dollar tip was added to a to go order was charged liquor and entertainment tax I did not eat in or order liquor this was refunded because I was paying attention will not go back
Loved this place! The atmosphere is great. And our food was amazing. My boyfriend got the Cajun turkey sandwich and was impressed. I'm a vegetarian, and I loved my veggie wrap. It's a sandwich shop that does it's own smoked meat, but it had good vegetarian options too. The Mac and cheese was also super yummy, and they had a cooler filled with good beer and wine and soft drinks.
By far one of the best smokehouses in St. Louis. They even sell fresh made pork rinds which you don't find in a lot of places. Definitely worth every penny!
WOW. I plugged a random search into yelp for a restaurant near me and had not tried The Wood Shack before. Don't let the unassuming building deter you - this place knows how to make a great sandwich. A friend had the Ragin' Cajun with rave reviews and I had The Delgado, a shrimp poboy that is so cram packed with flavor I couldn't put it down. Try the smoked potato salad while you're at it, but you've been warned...when they say smoked they mean smoked. Awesome flavors all in the comfort of a sandwich (they have wraps and healthy options too)!
Tried the Mule Kick last Monday on my off day and it was delicious! The customer service was great as well. Since it was my 1st time, I was a little indecisive but the waiter was very patient and understanding!
Good neighborhood spot for sandwiches. Owner was really nice to my dad when he didn't like his slaw gave him another option.
Great little place. Such freshly smoked meat, that you smell like a bbq when you leave lol. Inside seating and picnic benches outside. The sandwiches here are amazing. The pastrami is delicious! The ragin cajun has just enough kick and is probably my favorite. The 3 cheesy pigs is good too. I wasn't a huge fan of the potato salad, but the pasta salad was great. Very different than normal sandwich place pasta salad.
Incredibly good smoked meat sandwiches, each meat is smoked in a different combination of woods, delicious!
Special jerk wings were great. Waitress from inside watching everything on outside and super attentive. Had a great bourbon citrus cooler.
Great smoky scent when you walk in. Mostly sandwiches but they're result good. Fantastic gooey butter cake too
Great sandwiches, fantastic meats, awesome atmosphere!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Driving from PA to Phoenix, one of our stops was in St. Louis. We wanted a quick place to stop and eat, and found the Wood Shack Soulard. This is not a fancy sit down restaurant and may not be for everyone. But it was perfect for us. It is small, rustic, with just two big tables to sit and make friends at; definitely a unique place to eat. Both of our meals were ready in a timely manner, were very well-made, and DELICIOUS. Aslo, the prices can t be beat! We only met one staff member (we were there early) and she was very friendly! Definitely recommend if you are looking for good eats. We will be back the next time we are in the area!
Prime rib was smoked to perfection and so tender. Met the owners who were super nice and helpful. Even got a piece of peanut butter and chocolate gooey butter cake - still warm and so amazing!
Everything sounded great. Asked for a recommendation and was totally impressed. Would love to come have a drink on the patio sometime.
The food is absolutely unique and outstanding! This is what you want if you're in Soulard. It's as original as it gets! Chris is a master at his craft. The staff and environment is very welcoming. Great stuff all around... STL staple for sure!
Excellent food!! Excellent service. If you have not been to The Wood Shack, you're missing out!
Hope and her staff are amazing and the food is excellent. I'm looking forward to going back.
I never post or rate...... Im from the deep South.... this was the BEST food i ever had
Bomb. Got the smoked chicken wrap with brussels and red onion and cabbage and cotija, and it's the perfect blend of tasty and healthy the exact meal you want on a Friday lunch when you're thinking, "I should treat myself, but I'm also gonna consume a lot of beer tonight."
Tiny spot, quick and friendly service, and a big menu. I'll be back.
Amazing spot, from the atmosphere to the food, just awesome. Had the pastrami and it was delicious. For the side I had the Mac and cheese, again delicious. They have a nice selection of sandwiches with different smoked meats and an interesting selection of toppings accompanying them. I will be going there again and again just so I can try everything. DO NOT MISS THIS JOINT, you will not be dissappointed
Service was amazing. Cozy little place. Mac N Cheese was really good but but I have had better. Definitely going again!!
Big selection of sandwiches featuring different meats on each. Everything is made in house. Great location.
The food was nasty this time. Bread was soughy and had no taste.
This place has amazing food! The jack fruit wrap and smoked potato salad is everything!
Great sandwiches, crispy fries and the truly unique mac n' cheese. The beer and soda is cold, and ambience is warm and unique as the food.
Food was good, but not great. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Outdoor patio was nice on a sunny day.
Would ear here again.
Come here almost every Saturday. Owners are amazing and food is always great.
Everything is delicious here, but I particularly love the Delgado, Cheesy Clucker, and the mac 'n cheese. The staff are super friendly, and the owner even gave me a free bottle of water on a particularly hot day when I picked up my order. Highly recommend checking this place out!
The staff was awesome and immediately knew we have never been there and helped us out. Then to top it off our sandwiches were amazing. I was so full when I left. Definitely going back!
Had a quick bite for lunch here while vacationing. Sooo good! Grilled cheese was outta bounds, even though I ordered it for my son. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was delicious too! Wish there was a place like this in Oklahoma... The only thing I will say is I wish it was bigger and had high chairs. Wouldn't stop me from eating here again the next time I'm in STL though!
Fantastic smoked meat sandwiches. Small place so you always meet a new person. Outdoors seating as well as inside. Love this place. Go once and you'll never be able to stay away.
Great sandwiches, sides, and atmosphere! The sandwiches are without equal and the hospitality is welcoming and greatly appreciated! We will definitely be telling ALL about the Wood Shack! Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Great food and it also smells amazing when you walk in! Yum!!
Excellent food, they have the best macaroni and cheese
Seriously awesome Cajun sandwich! They even had a gluten free bun, which I greatly appreciated (I'm allergic). Very casual dining space appropriately named the Wood Shack. I will definitely be returning and trying more.
FANTASTIC food! Flavorful, tasty, great value and AMAZING!!
Ooooowwee! Our first visit. The best sandwich I've had in St. Louis. I highly recommend The Wood Shack Soulard to everyone. You won't be disappointed.
All I can say is Wow!!!! There's so much good food around here so it's hard for a place to stick out but this place Def has some of the best sandwiches in the city!
Great food, great drinks especially the bloody mary! The owner and staff are very approachable and attentive.
Very good sandwiches! We had the Delgado and the Raging Cajun sandwiches. The shrimp on the Delgado sandwich had a delicious crunch and flavor. The smoked turkey and bacon jam on the Cajun sandwich made for a wonderful pairing. The side of fries was perfectly salted and the mac-n-cheese was saucy without being overly cheesy. Nice outdoor patio seating.
If you are in Soulard and craving some bbq & comfort food with great hospitality, this is the place.
We felt appreciated for coming in & being their customer, it was so inviting & welcoming.
Love the atmosphere, the interior is an eclectic mix of a rustic, industrial vintage style & the 70s rock tunes was the icing on the cake for me.
We had the Pastrami and it was extremely delicious with a creamy harveti Mac & Cheese. They kindly offered us a free sample of their homemade vegetable beef soup that was as equally amazing.
For sure we will be returning soon to try their Ragin' Cajun sandwich next.
Creative sandwiches based on good bbqed meat they prepare in house. Reasonable prices around $9-$12 include one side...go with the smoked potato salad.
They offer wine and canned beer as well as homemade dessert, including ice cream sandwiches made with fresh cookies!
Service is very quick but don't expect friendly. V
Excellent can t say enough about the good food and staff.
This place hits it WAY outta the park! Excellence every single time! My husband said it was the best sandwich he's ever had and he meant it.
Average. Turkey was good, pastrami was dry. Sides just okay.
Damn good sandwiches. We had the three cheesy pigs and the ragin Cajun. We preferred the three cheesy pigs, but both were very good. We also put the fireball sauce on them. I'd buy bottles of it if I could. The Mac and cheese sides we're really good too.
This place may be my best new Restaurant of 2017. It blows my mind that more people do not know about this place. Everything is great and they just started having breakfast specials on Sundays. The Potato Salad is awesome as well.
