Good choice of breakfast and other menus, Prices reasonable, clean environment and friendly staff
Staff and food as good as ever but you have lost the English tea room ambience without the nice white tablecloths . Looks like a transport cafe now. Shame on you Wilkins
Went here for lunch today, having been many times before and it's always been really good. Not today. Had a roast chicken dinner...oh dear... The Yorkshire pudding was tough, roast potatoes were just greasy (not at all crispy) my chicken portion once the fatty skin had been removed amounted to roughly a tablespoon of meat. Tried to catch a waitresses attention but couldn't. When I went to pay I thought at least they'll ask how my food was but no...nothing. So I told them how disappointed I was. The girl on the till did apologize and said she would tell the kitchen but for me the damage has been done. I will not be eating there again and will certainly tell others about my experience. What a shame !
The great gift shop stopped me giving the tea room 1 star. Lovely restaurant serving what looked like lovely food but the service today was pretty shocking.
We are a family of five and we waited in the queue with hungry kids for probably 25 minutes to be seated. The manager suggested taking the kids to the museum to kill time while we waited as they were 'trying to catch up'. When I came back I spotted a recently vacated table that was subsequently cleared. Several minutes later I pointed out the table as I didn't think the manager had noticed it, she nearly bit my head off and insisted on making us wait for another table.
We only ordered drinks and a cake each but the cakes turned up long before the drinks. One drink was missing, as was the milk and one cup. We immediately told the waitress and she just walked off and did something else. I had to go to the counter myself as my tea was stewing and I'd already eaten half of my cake.
When I paid the four staff behind the counter looked sheepish at each other for a while then went to fetch someone who knew how to use the till.
There were still people queuing when we left but half the tables were empty. There seemed to be plenty of staff but they just weren't organised. I don't know how they'd cope if a coachload turned up. Shame.
WOW, this jam is soo good!
I would recommend this jam definatly, the flavour is just right and so easy to spread which makes it quicker to eat hehe .
I recently had the vomiting virus that has been attacking this country. I was unable to keep any food inside me for at least 10 days.......that is except Wilkin & Sons Ginger preserve spread on a piece of dry toast about every 3 hours. It gave a very pleasant taste in my mouth and the sugar gave me the energy to feed my dog. The pieces of ginger are small so digest easily. I am hooked now and often have just that for my breakfast. Thanks Wilkin & Son. Please don't change the recipe. It is perfect as it is.
It is decent, but too much sugar. We found out it has 240g out of 340g of sugar
The Rolls Royce of factory shops. All products at supermarket prices but the range is way bigger than any supermarket. Presentation boxes realistically priced. There used to be a lot of unrelated products but now the shop is almost exclusively Wilkin.
Lovely food, shame you cannot book a table as you can end up queuing for ages. But food and cakes are worth the wait
Maybe forget the tea rooms. The marmalades and jams are the best. Try blood orange marmalade, plum jam and raspberry conserve, FAB!
We have been to the jam shop, tea rooms and museum previously but recently we went on the farm open day. It was well organised with buses and tractor doing tours and then some stalls selling (and allowing free tasting of) fruit, jams and cakes. The farm area is pretty darn big, and they grow a variety of crop here.
If visiting for the team room, shop or museum there is plenty of parking - on a weekend (and some weekdays) expect a slight queue for the tea room!
Well worth visiting...!
This is a fantastic morning/afternoon out not a full day event. The site is clean and pram/wheelchair friendly which is always a bonus. The only downside is that you can not pre-book a table within the restaurant which when busy means you Can wait for upto 20mins. However this gives you a great opportunity to walk around the small but highly informative museum and even better is that it's free.
Finally before leaving the have a great gift store which sells all the factory's produce aswell as other niche Artisan items.
Overall a great day out.
Nice jams.
The image is well preserved texture and favour are ok.
FOR THE HOME DELIVERY DEPARTMENT
I wasn't sure where to leave this review but absolute credit to Elaine in Home Delivery for her help and great customer support in sorting out a Hamper for Europe. I am so grateful to her she is an asset to Wilkins
An excellent 'pit-stop' if you need a break. The shop is full of great foods, and the cafe is always busy!
Great service, dubious value for money.
Slightly scatty, but very friendly, well-meaning service and a nice relaxed atmosphere. We are not too sure that we wouldn't have been better each purchasing a sandwich and individual cream tea though, as we didn't really rate the patisserie tier and could have done with a wee bit more in the savoury department.
This is the jam you will find anywhere around the
World where quality jam is served. You won't fail to be amazed by the varieties sold here or the quality.
Amazing lunch, beautiful peaceful place with lovely polite staff, well worth every penny
Shop, museum and tea rooms well worth a visit. If you like jam this is the place for you!
I live just down the road in Tolleshunt Knights and work in the town's Shell garage and it's bloody lovely living so near to Wilkin & Sons. I've loved their marmalade since I was too small to spell marmalade and it's great to be able to pop in and have a tea so English I think I accidentally became part of the Archers.
I've been coming here ever since I was a child. Paid a visit again recently for lunch and wasn't disappointed. Would highly recommend the ploughman's lunch, it's delicious!
