About Washington Education Association
Washington Education Association (WEA) is the largest representative of public school employees in Washington. The organization has been serving the education community for over 130 years, advocating for better working conditions, fair wages, and quality education for all students.
The WEA is a non-profit organization that represents over 100,000 educators and support professionals across the state. Its members include teachers, counselors, librarians, nurses, bus drivers and other school staff who work tirelessly to provide quality education to students.
One of the primary goals of WEA is to ensure that every student in Washington receives a high-quality education. To achieve this goal, the organization works closely with policymakers at both state and local levels to advocate for policies that support public schools. The WEA also provides professional development opportunities for its members so they can continue to improve their skills and knowledge.
The WEA believes that every educator deserves fair compensation and benefits. As such, it negotiates collective bargaining agreements on behalf of its members with school districts across Washington State. These agreements cover issues such as salaries, health care benefits, retirement plans and working conditions.
In addition to advocating for better working conditions and wages for educators in Washington State schools; The WEA also advocates on behalf of students by supporting policies that promote equity in education. This includes advocating for increased funding for schools serving low-income communities; promoting programs designed to close achievement gaps between different groups of students; supporting efforts aimed at reducing class sizes; promoting early learning programs; among others.
The WEA also offers a range of services designed specifically to support its members' needs including legal assistance when needed through their Legal Services Program which provides free legal representation if an educator faces disciplinary action or termination due solely because they are union members or have engaged in union activities.
Overall the Washington Education Association plays an essential role in ensuring quality public education throughout Washington State by representing educators' interests while advocating on behalf of students' needs as well as providing professional development opportunities so teachers can continue improving their skills & knowledge base while receiving fair compensation & benefits packages from employers who value them highly enough not only financially but also professionally!
