The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw - the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the oldest Polish university of art. Its headquarters are in the Czapski Palace at ul. Krakowskie Przedmie cie 5. In 1816, the Department of Fine Arts was established at the University of Warsaw, where professors were, among others, Marcello Bacciarelli and Zygmunt Vogel. After the dissolution of the University of Warsaw in 1831, the Russian authorities created in 1844 the School of Fine Arts, attached to the Junior High School. Her students took an active part in the patriotic manifestations of 1860-1861 and in the January Uprising, which resulted in its dissolution in 1864. In 1865, it was reactivated as a Drawing Class. The Drawing Class was transformed into the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw in 1920. In 1904, the Warsaw School of Fine Arts was re-opened, with professors including Konrad Krzy anowski, Karol Tichy, Ferdynand Ruszczyc and Xawery Dunikowski, while the first director was Kazimierz Stabrowski. In the years 1909-1920, the school was managed by Stanis aw Lentz. In 1932, the school was transformed into the Academy of Fine Arts.

After the end of World War II, the university was reactivated, and in 1950 connected with the Higher School of Fine Arts, a continuator of the tradition of the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting. At that time it was called the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1957, it was renamed the Academy of Fine Arts.

In the years 1954-1977, the Artistic and Research Department operated at the Department of Interior Architecture.
