We were referred to Dr Fierson by my daughter's pediatrician. Been going there since 2012, we endured the long drive and the extremely long wait time. Any parent will move mountains for their kid. The last time we were there was last February and our daughter noticed the new glasses were making her dizzy. We had the new glasses checked at two optical shops and they were made right based on the new prescription. Then we compared the new prescription to the previous one and the jump in cylinders is astronomical, we have a gut feeling this is a mistake and instead of writing +0.25, the doctor wrote +1.25. We contacted their office and they told us they will look into it and call us back. I went to their office and talked to an Asian Lady who must be the office manager, she smugly said that because we bought the glasses elsewhere, it must be the glasses. When I point out the big jump in cylinder values, she condescendingly pointed out that that's because kids grow and eyesight gets worse. The lady at their own optical shop checked the glasses and confirmed they were properly made.
The staff there would not dare ask Dr Fierson about the prescription, they walk on eggshells over there treating this doctor like he's infallible. Reminds me of one incident when during the course of an examination, Dr Fierson just left the room without explanation, during this time the nurses were asking us what we did or what we said to him, but we didn't say anything to him. We told the staff there to call him on his celfone and find out where he went. For some reason, they wouldn't dare call him. After 30 minutes, he came back and continue the examination like nothing happened. He offered no explanation. For all we know, he might just went out to take a dump, or remember that he needs to make a phone call, or who the hell knows. But he wasted our time without so much as an apology.
This wrong prescription incident pushed us to look for another pediatric ophthalmologist, we went on Yelp and chose a doctor with amazing reviews. We don't have to wait for hours and the good doctor was very accommodating and courteous. He checked and sure enough the prescription from Dr Fierson is wrong. Right now we are weighing our legal options.
If you are a parent, you are doing a big disservice to your kid by bringing him/her to see Dr Fierson. Let Yelp be your guide and go search for 'pediatric ophthalmologist'.
