Everyone acts like this was the end all be all. I found it old looking and out of style. Like a lot of New York it s all about a grand lobby then whatever upstairs. They have good food at high prices I don t know. I guess I belong in west Texas my cat liked it
I was the Towers Butler here for two years and it was my home for many years before that. I will likely return as a resident when the new Towers condos open. I also served as the hotel's archivist and historian alongside Mr. Tepper, the legendary concierge of the Towers. I was just there a couple of days ago and was impressed at how much care is going into the restoration. It may actually be better for this work and she is being restored properly. I am watching over her carefully.
I jokingly call it the Waldorf Spendoria. Way way overpriced. Not blown away.
Best hotel to stay in while on NYC .restaurants & bars are great even had a bartender remember what I liked to drink, Ayers later! Great service
I used to live in NY & I now travel there from CA for work. I inherently love staying in all of NY's old hotels but just like Chicago they are all getting remodeled. I stayed there cuz they filmed a few sences for "The Royal Tenenbaums" it was nothing special but good enough if you are just using the room to sleep & shower. Just like The Chelsea, I won't be staying in it after the remodel. I usually stay w/ friends but when I need working time, I love to stay in hotels like these.
I hope so much they don t destroy the iconic lobby and historic feel of the hotel with this renovation. There is a similar Art Deco hotel in Cincinnati that went through a renovation and they essentially tried to modernize the hotel removing all the history, wood, classic decor, etc and made it look like every other cookie cutter new luxury hotel with bright colors and white marble. PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT HERE!
I will mention that I was turned off by the cost of the valet service since we drove down and needed access to our car frequently. There were no other locations that I was comfortable and was feeling like I was going to backed in to a corner. It was great, all the staff were great and I should not have second guessed anything.
Should be something to see when it's finished, but it's completely gutted right now !
Would like to see it but it's closed and get renovated I hope it will be ready soon
