I was in a really bad toxic relationship during the epidemic,I was S/A by a individual there, sent emails,reports.. they told me they would take care of the report so I could focus on the "trauma recovery" along with a lot more being done to me I recently found out that they never made the police report . They lied to me,used me, emotionally mentally caused more trauma as I'm "assuming it's a cover up for their benefit in a sick way" not everyone knows the "time line " for specifics when you are being blocked intentionally by various individuals inside trying to protect themselves and their $$ which is why I also had a habit of saving every email noting down quite a lot and recorded much movement for my own well-being and safety so I would have everything accurately. They have individuals working there who shouldn't be. Then your stuck because the few descent ones are stuck there or in line of fire being used as a facade. It feels like violation on top of violation.to be lied to and led on intentionally is disgusting.its against what any health facilities are...they aren't helping.helping would be protecting those in harms way and making sure things are done the right way. This is a disgrace to the indigenous culture!

Building looks great after the renovations. Still poorly managed though, some disrespectful staff who won't even acknowledge you standing infront of them waiting for service at the front. They don't actually offer much "help" or "info" either, usually just "refer" you. They go through staff and Dr's more quickly than you can get to the next appointment. Probably due the poor management since previous employees don't recommend working there. Feel bad for the good/helpful employees that want to help/teach/guide you that have to tolerate that kind of negative work environment. Friendship centre should just take over in my opinion, they're more helpful, resourceful and would be a better location for them. Rather than being beside a bar..that's just adding to that (alcohol) stigma.
Wabano is the best place EVER! I couldn't imagine Wabano without all the wonderful staff (and the camps I have been talking about the March Break camp since like September!) I hope to see you guys soon <3 #WABANOISTHEBEST!
It feels like the level of care keeps going down upon every visit. And now apparently Walk-in is no longer 'walk-in'. Called today and asked when was the earliest time to register for the evening walk-in. They immediately told me it's already full.......at 2:30pm!!!!
I used to know a place you could go that was all about community. It was warm inviting and fun. Helped me in a time when my life was upside down. That place is long gone. The green eyed monsters walks the halls now. What a shame that the dollar is more important than the people it was built for. Shame.
I used to like Wabano but they did something without my permission or knowledge and when I tried to address the issue and talked to the health director she hinted to me not to proceed with a complaint and kept the conversation in circles (asking the same question repeatedly) and when asked for help turned it on me and said to go to a walk in council ling session making me the problem. It was complete conversation narcissism just a headache and I gave up. I also never had my health problems addressed at the clinic when ordering tests with the Nurse practitioner my symptoms got worse and I ended up in the ER with my underlying condition worse and was properly treated better at the hospital than the neglectfulness of not telling me my personal health records upon tests at Wabano. Worst clinic and treatment I have ever got and I am lucky I am not dead. I officially stop going and supporting them. There are better resources out there that are kind, patient and respectful.
Absolutely Amazing Centre! My housing provider recently held a tenant appreciation night at the centre as they have many aboriginal tenants!
The centres staff worked on their day off and cooked us a delicious and healthy meal! They also served us at our tables.
We were also given a tour of their lovely centre and learned about the many programs offered.
A very special thank you to our tour guide.....Danielle! Likewise, a special thanks to all the Wabano staff who did the food preparation, cooking and serving of our meals!

The Wabano Centre provides a caring and supportive invironment for their community. Their youth are the future of their community and they are given the very best mental health services and support! Our youth are the future of our great nation and must be cared for with heartfelt warmth and respect!
Always make time for their clients, try to support their communities. Very helpful and resourceful in several ways. Been helping me get back on my feet for some time. They have several community programs and are very dedicated to aboriginal health.
I love this organization, I've worked here for over 2 year and they treat me well and listen. I love the work they are doing for the community. They offer dental, mental wellness, clinic services, seniors programs, youth programs and housing services.
My boyfriend was doing volunteer hours at wabano. The woman kept getting angry at him that he shouldn't be there when she specifically told him to show up for that day. Staff is disrespectful towards him. He was told not to wander the building yet to also find staff when he arrives so they are very contradicting. Very upset with how they treat volunteers.
I have to say its by far the best Aboriginal Centre Ive come across in CANADA! Ive been coast to coast and Wabano has been hands down the best place Ive had the pleasure of going to. The staff is wonderful, helpful and genuinely cares about the needs and care of all who go there. Its a one stop shop, they either have the services there or can and will advocate for their clients. They see follow ups through, their persistent and vigilant. My hat goes off to them and my heart out to them. They help people, they help me and we are all very lucky to have more then just the centre but the staff who run it! Great Centre! Great Staff! Great Services! Great Job! Gchi Meegwetch! Hate wabano now!! Dislike that my children pedestrian and doctor appts have be canclled and rebook because of no specific reason. And its happened 4 times this year every time the date for the appt gets close they change it and my oldest has to see a pediatrician. Sooo disspointed in the work ethic here its not reliable at all for families!!
Every time I call they answer then I'm on hold forever. I stopped going there but I have now that I need a social worker. Still taking forever to actually speak to a social worker. I need one from there so they can connect with my doctors at the university of Ottawa about going to rehab for a 90 day treatment. Also since they unionized barely any indigenous staff. Their site program is supposed to be confidential!! It's not!!! I know I used to go there.
Attended a meeting here and the building is stunning. Beautiful artwork throughout. High ceiling, lots of natural light and decent space for our group of 50+
It s starts from the top ... the Executive Director (ED) has to go! The ED is the problem and why people leave this organization. They have lost some very educated, knowledgeable, caring, respectful, kind employees. Employees are treated like garbage. The ED does not acknowledge employees or interact with them unless your one of the pets. The ED has a few untouchable employees who make other employees a nightmare to work at this organization. If you have a disagreement with one of the ED s untouchables; they ll find a way to fire you. The Directors, Board of Directors are her personal friends, so good luck on trying to get things resolved. This is the most toxic work environment! This why people don t stay; they either quit or get fired. Also, misappropriation of funds! The ED has a spending problem, she s constantly shopping for decor? The walls are full of art but the ED keeps spending on things this place does not need. The ED will buy high end food for external events but for internal programs; they get dollar store food or discounted semi-expired food. Also, this is supposed to be a place of healing ... they serve alcohol at events hosted at Wabano. That is a BIG no-no within Indigenous culture, especially with a healing lodge within the building. What example are you teaching those who are trying to heal? The ED bit off more than they can chew by building this huge extension that can t even host its own internal programming as external events take priority. What good is the building if you can t use it for programming you receive funding for? Don t get me wrong, the building is beautiful but again they are so busy trying to host events to try to pay the mortgage which is in the millions. This organization has so much potential. So, remember if you are thinking of applying for employment at Wabano, think twice and remember you can not speak or contact the ED. The ED will only acknowledge or talk to people who have money, politicians, celebrities, well-known public figures, oh and her untouchables. It s sad to see how colonized the ED is. Wabano incorporates the 7 grandfather teachings but this is NOT followed or they don t even practice the culture, yet they are preaching it? They don t follow their policies; one strike you fired!!! Also, this place does not have a union, the people who tried to get a union in are no longer employees there! A lot of people who are employees, who are employed there feel like they are constantly walking on eggshells; am I next to get fired constantly in the back of their minds. Also, you are told you cannot use the services at Wabano but the it s ok for the ED?!?! I that pray that this place thrives, and change comes sooner than later.
Worst service ever....... Toooo many patients not enough staff .Everything is over booked months in advanced . Doctors come and go .No stability . I wish they never spent that multi million dollar ad on . The place is horrible now
