Update: Had the PTLO surgery 3 yrs ago. Still going strong, no additional issues. No problem with other leg which is very common. I was strict with the rehab, result: she's 100%.

Impressed with the Specialist, he was very thorough and did a good job explaining what needed to be done and what options I had. I didn't feel pressured, more assured about my decision by giving me as much info as possible. The reception staff are friendly but the lady taking care of me was a bit scattered. Busy place, overall I'd recommend VSS for things your Vet can't do. Pricing: this place isn't cheap but they do accept dog insurance or you can apply for credit care. My only beef was they gave me a price quote, low & hight range. My dogs surgery was less complicated than expected. My bill was the high quote. Why bother with a low & high quote then, you're just disappointed when the bill arrives. No clear explanation given. Hopefully, it will be worth it then the several thousand spent is money well spent.

My pup got attacked by 30 or more bee's. They got me in within a matter of minutes. They told me it would be a while before the doctor would see my dog and I needed to wait in the parking lot. Within 10 minutes the doctor called said what they were going to do and she would call me back in 30 minutes. 35 minutes later she called and my pup was discharged. Surprisingly my bill was only $148. Very happy with the service. Everyone was so friendly and caring.

The Doctors and staff were compassionate and friendly. They explained everything they were going to do and why before they did anything. They told me the cost so I knew what to expect. While the outcome wasn't the one I wanted, the service was excellent

We brought our four month old lab puppy into the VSS last night after he had gotten into rat poison. They immediately took him back and began treatment on him. We were constantly given updates and they did everything they could to assure us that he would be ok. We had full confidence in their ability to treat our puppy, everyone we encountered was very professional and personable, and we couldn't be more thankful that we brought him to the VSS. In one of the scariest nights of my night, the VSS was beyond fantastic. I can't recommend them enough.

My little buddy Roman was hit by a car and had a broken ball joint in his hip. Dr Sutton and the folks at VSS including the surgical staff all the vet techs and office staff have been wonderful. Roman is not out of the woods yet, but I can't say enough about the wonderful staff.

Be prepared to spend your child's college tuition if you have an emergency. We went here because it was the number listed on our vet's website for after hours. Our dog broke his shoulder. They sedated him, did two x-rays, and then told us he would need surgery. They quoted the surgery at $3900. We were stunned. That's when we asked them to splint him so we could take him home. They didn't want to, but they did. Just that part was $375. In the morning we called our own vet's office. I asked her about alternatives. They did not offer that type of surgery, but she suggested another vet outside the county that might be cheaper. The other vet quoted $625 for the entire surgery. It made the decision easy. There is no legitimate reason for a price gap that wide. In my opinion, the company is taking advantage of people. On a positive note, they were polite, competent, caring, and professional. If money is not a concern, use them.

They saved my dog Pippa this summer and it meant everything to our family. They not only saved our dog but had compassion towards how much pain it was causing our family to see our dog at the edge of death. We are so grateful for their services and highly recommend them if you are facing a pet emergency.

I had a great experience with Dr. Fagan and the oncology team. Appointment was on time, and the techs were very gentle with my cat during his exam. Dr. Fagan spent a long while thoroughly explaining my cat's diagnosis and all the available options. She was very empathetic and supportive in a difficult situation. I didn't feel rushed at all. Thank you to VSS!

I was unimpressed, disappointed with them. I went there because my veterinarian had me rush my dog for them for an emergency. When we arrived there, we waited 45 minutes before the technician came out to pick my dog and another hour before he was seen by a doctor. The vet kept him overnight. Next day, I arrived at 4:30 pm to pick my dog up and it was until 6:40 pm they brought it out!! I asked if he peed and pooped and the technician answered that she didn't know. I was very upset, how come they say they care about pets and customers when it is obvious they don't!

Our Puggle was VERY sick - lethargic, vomiting and diarrhea with blood in both. She's 13yo and we were afraid for the worst. VSS took her in, triaged her, and kept her about 24hrs for IV fluids and other meds. By the time we picked her up, she was almost back to her normal self! They sent home meds to continue at home and she has been doing great since!

Thank You to the doctors, techs, and all the staff at VSS!!

My long term friend TJ was brought in with paralyzed back legs. He went from walking to not walking in a matter of 30-45 minutes.

When I brought him in, the staff immediately set the wheels in motion. Not ever having a dog with this issue, I was unsure the best course of treatment. I had never having been to VSS before. They explained the course of treatment and prognosis. Though being expensive, after a MRI and surgery, TJ is on the road to recovery and is walking again, at times he is still unstable, but I believe this will resolve over time as he gets stronger.

Over all the staff was great! I did have a few conversations with a tech/nurse that wasn't very good with people.(some are better with animals), But the end result of my friend recovering is the most important.
I would have given a 5 star, had it not been so expensive and the experience of getting a nurse ( twice) that was very short with me when I called to check up on my dog. The Neurology staff was fantastic especially Stephanie, and TJ's Neurosurgeon Dr W.

The veterinary care our cat received here is unmatched. They called every mornings with updates, we were allowed to visit, and they didn't stop diagnosing until they were able to find out what was wrong with our cat. The waits to visit were sometimes a little long, but that was something they informed us of from the start. Our cat ended up being diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease (along with a couple other complications) but ultimately had to have an e-tube placed to make sure he's getting food. He's still got the e-tube and I will admit there's a lot to it and it makes me a nervous wreck every time I have to replace the bandaging. They always take my calls even now. The only part I'm a little frustrated with is that they don't do follow-up appointments, they want you to follow-up with your regular vet. I understand they're an emergency & referral clinic - but coming from someone who trusted my cat to them for 6 days in their ICU, I would personally prefer if they did at least the first follow-up to make sure the e-tube is still placed properly, but that's just my preference. Still 5 star care for your pet and 100% worth the cost knowing they're getting the best care possible. Thank you for everything you did for our cat!

Unfortunately I had to visit on Saturday evening with my boy. The staff were amazing, I found them very professional, caring & compassionate. They made the best of what turned out to be an emotionally traumatic night somewhat easier. Dr Whiting was fantastic, you could tell she cared, she explained everything to me and showed genuine sympathy and concern.
Alas my baby did not leave with me but I received a sympathy card today, which was very unexpected and such a kind thing to do.
Definitely reccomend!

Our dog had a severe reaction to a bee sting and their facility was able to see him without a wait. Everyone we worked with was pleasant, professional, and reassuring. He recovered completely with their guidance :) Highly recommend the location in Manchester.

My pup had something that I couldnt afford to get diagnosed as they wanted to do an MRI and full blood work to tell me anything. In a great deal of pain, I brought my dog in to be put down. While being repeatedly hassled by staff to ensure that I pay before they will do anything, my baby died by herself in the back room even after I had demanded to be with her. As we waited in the grieving room to say goodbye, staff came BACK to ask for money AGAIN! And after it all, still sent me a bill that included charges for drugs I did not ask for or authorize. My bill is paid and I hope to never set foot here again.

Great staff and service. A tad expensive on everything though. Feels like they charge whatever and we accept it or let our pet suffer. Wish they would keep in mind that animals have no health care insurance to help with bills. And we're not all rich but we do love our pets. :/

We were recommended to this office by our vet for ACL surgery. While our dog had a great outcome from the surgery there was definitely a lack of customer service. There was never a follow up call to see how she was doing after the surgery. Post surgery instructions where never gone over upon pick up. We were just given written instructions. I only knew what to expect because of friends having had the same surgery on their dog. When the office did call it was only to check and make sure we were given all of the medication because they had an extra label printed. They never once asked how she was doing. Like I said the surgery turned out well it just was not the same level of care we get from our regular vet.

Our pooch had torn her ACL & meniscus tendons on her rear leg. VSS did a great job with TPLO surgery on her. We're 2 weeks out from surgery and starting her physical therapy. So far, so good. I can't say enough good things about VSS, they are very good at what they do and the staff is very friendly as well. Overall a great place to bring your beloved pet for specialized work!

They are amazing here! Even with social distancing they are so caring and sweet! My dog had to have major surgery through this pandemic. We had already lost one dog. We didn't want to put we another if we could do anything about it! They were so understanding with my panic! Lol Truly a great place!

We used VSS to consult on an x-ray of our dog who is losing motor function of her back legs. We have been trying to get the results of their consolations for over 2 months. Each time we call them to get the results they claim they have sent it to our vet, which our vet claims they never did. When we ask if they can just sent the results to us directly they are very dismissive and tell us they are far too busy to do so. I wish i could say it was just one team member who treated us that why, but it has happened twice with them in the course of trying to get the results. We still do not have the results.

My dog was in pain when told given something, brought out with snotty nose & dirty eyes to say goodbye in parking lot of strangers. Then only allowed 1 person to say goodbye to dog when euthanized. Could not even pull my mask down to kiss my dog goodbye when passed! I will NEVER USE THIS VET AGAIN ! Disheartening & disgusting ! And expensive with unprofessional care.

They got my puppy in relatively quickly as it was practically the middle of the night. Once he was in, they took GREAT care of him! I got update phone calls at least once a day....if not more often. They were very accommodating when I came to visit. I noticed that they were very kind and compassionate with those few around me who had lost their pets. When I came to pick my puppy up, everyone was very sweet making sure they all wished him luck and helped me get his healing little body safely in the car. I would recommend this group to anyone!

This place is awesome when you really have a sick fur baby. My dog has congestive heart failure and he's not that old. He now has a cardiologist who cares for him. He's doing great and is back to running and playing, enjoying his life.

No-one likes bringing their dog to the vet so when we finally found out what's wrong with our dog and received a reasonable bill we were satisfied. Our Sneezy snot-nose dog simply has allergies because he's older.

Unfortunately we had to take our dog here after she got into some toxic food. They acted as fast as they could under the stress of how many animals they had in line. They took great care of our dog and she returned to us happy and healthy. She was in high spirits when she came out which means they must have treated her very well inside.

They called us with many updates and always were very reassuring during the stressful time that it was. Great place to go, if anything bad were to happen.

I visited twice within a few months. I had to put my sweet baby down. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Everyone was more than wonderful. A THANK YOU to the entire staff! We unfortunately had to put our dog down and the staff was amazing. They offered snacks and to keep an eye on our son while we had to make tough decisions. Not only did they make sure our pup was comfortable during his last moments, they took care of us as well.

My dog had bad diarrhea and vomiting all night, and I was probably overreacting when I arrived with him at 4:30 am. I know I was crying more than a non-life-threatening problem merited. The staff at VSS was kind and professional, got all the information they needed, and treated me and my dog well. I had to leave him while I went to school, and they kept me updated about his condition and test results. I appreciated getting a copy of his record and blood work results to keep (I asked for the blood work record; that may not be standard).
When I picked up my dog the next day, I could tell he had been well cared-for. I would definitely take him back there for another emergency. He's so much better now, and loves the bland diet he's on for the next few days!

The staff at VSS has been super helpful in attempting to figure out what is wrong with my dog--they've been very comprehensive with updates, patient while I explain symptoms/random things I've found on PetMD, and have made it a point to follow up with additional questions, checking in on the dog to see if there's any improvements/changes/etc.

Whatever is going on with the pup hasn't been able to diagnosed yet, but the doctors at VSS are determined to figure it out, and that is so very appreciated.

As far as pricing goes, VSS is within range for other vets in the area, and they provide a quote prior to providing care (which is awesome, that way you have some idea of the financial impact)

My 1-star rating has nothing to do with the services provided. We never received services.

Our dog had a fairly severe bite wound and we sought some sort of "urgent" care. We were immediately directed into a room, after being asked twice "do you normally come here?" We should have recognized a problem right then.

We were left in a room with our pet(s) for 1hr 45mins without being checked on once. We were told a tech would be in to take vitals then we'd wait for a veterinarian. That never happened.

I went out to seek assistance after an hour of waiting. I was kindly told by a woman that they were just "swamped" and that we'd still have to wait. They (four ladies) were all sitting and chatting. Most of the exam rooms were empty, and there was not a single person in the waiting room. Again, I was asked if we normally go there.

Yet still, we persisted. We are patient people... so we waited another 45 minutes. No one came to check on us, or our dog.

I called to another local pet hospital/vet and they got our dog in right away. We dropped him off for a bit and they had him fixed up and prescriptions filled and our boy was ready to go in about an hour, if that.

Not only did the other place provide prompt service but they actually appeared to care about the welfare of our animal.

The staff at VSS didn't really seem too interested that we were leaving and definitely didn't concern themselves with the welfare of our animal.

We will never return and I encourage everyone else to think twice about patronizing this facility.

My 2 year old English Bulldog and her 3 puppies were having severe GI complications for a little over 3 weeks. I had seen my home veterinarian as well as a second veterinarian in another town with no answers. The front desk ladies at the veterinary office in my hometown seemed to disregard everything I told them and told me to stop self diagnosing my dogs and stay off of the internet. I was very sure of what it was making my dogs sick but no one would listen, and I couldn t get the medicine I needed without a prescription. Finally, after barely getting my oldest girl to eat or drink for a couple of days she started having nonstop severe liquid bloody diarrhea and it was very alarming. The puppies soon followed and I thought I was going to lose them all from dehydration. I searched google for an emergency GI specialist and I found this office and called right away and immediately knew I made the right choice. The receptionist wanted to know every detail of what had been going on, as well as both veterinarian s contact information so she could call and see what records they had. She actually LISTENED to me and believed what I told her and truly cared, it was so reliving to finally have hope of this being solved. When I arrived at the office Dr. Ozment ran the tests necessary in identifying the cause and was very upfront about prices beforehand. She was thorough and kind and made sure all of our questions were answered. After confirming it was in fact the parasitic infection I had mentioned before I was finally were able to get the medicine needed as well as fluids for our girl who was in very rough condition at this point. I truly had a great experience and can finally feel peace that my dogs are finally on the path to feeling better.

Very pleased with Dr. Syckamore at VSS. She diagnosed our tiny yorkie and devised a plan of care including surgery (our choice) to remove liver cancer. We have used their emergency service in the past for one other fur baby when she got sick. Great customer service which is hard to come by these days. Thank you Dr. Syckamore and the Vet Tech s at VSS.

I feel after my dogs surgery that they just didn't give a care anymore. The surgeon that did her surgery left the very next day. I knew he was leaving, but I thought at least someone would take the case over and want to follow up and see how she was doing. Zero follow up calls! 5000 plus bucks was all they cared about. She's 3 months post op and worse than she was before.

They were very helpful tonight, I was barely audible and hindsight 20/20 I was very weird-I m blaming my 102 fever-my apologies to whoever had to listen to me. They exceeded my expectations. Thanks VSS for being there tonight!

Took my dog there after my vet and another vet said to. They did nothing for him.Charged me $125. They wanted me to pay over $2000 to just tell me what is wrong with him. I left a message for the vet to call me back to see what the chances of him pulling through the $2500 survey would be, I never received a call back. I called the next day and was able to speak with a nurse but she said I need to speak with the vet. He never called and it's been a week. Plus the vet looked at my dog in amother room which I found to be odd.

My cat was sick, it was late night and I needed a vet fast. Veterinary Specialty Services Emergency Center to the rescue. This facility was great. The staff were professional. Communications was excellent. The price was reasonable. I would totally recommend using them. Thank you for helping my furry baby.

Initial care was great if you can afford it. I felt like I was always being charged a different price for coming in for the same procedure. One day it would be one price and the next it would be 10 times that amount. Spent thousands at this place for a chronic condition that they could never figure out the root cause. Not sure if the Covid has any effect on their care for my cat, but they were always packed with emergency cases. I don t blame them for not being able to figure out my cat s difficult condition but I do blame them for the poor care my cat received in critical care. She had been under around the clock care for 5 days only to be returned in worse shape than I brought her in. She had all the symptoms of a blood clot as I see now after doing research. The critical care Dr. said that there was swelling in her leg and stomach which he assumed it was because of her fluid retention, but it was not further looked into. Which I know this from asking another vet to check her records for more details. She was discharged in such a shocking state. She was covered in pee when they brought her out (I could tell was attempted to cover up by spraying a fragrance on her) drooling, out of it and was dragging her back legs when she got home. I called the Dr. to take her back in and he said that she was stable and released her back to me. Every time he called with an update I would ask questions that were left unanswered and unattended to. Common answers would be I don t know or no further testing or can t explain this . Nothing was done about my concerns. I do not recommend coming here. She passed at home 2 days later from what I confirmed she had after being discharged, a blood clot. I only wish that I knew this information beforehand.

I called ahead to VSS to let them know my dog s symptoms and had all my paperwork from my primary vet sent so that they could be prepared. During the phone conversation they quoted the procedure to be $4200-$5000. I arrive and was quickly seen even as the lobby had 3-4 other people there. The doctor came in reviewed my dog and said the procedure would be around $5k and went through the details. All was good at this point. The Vet said she would be back with a quote and go from there. She returns to the room changing her quote to add another $1k making it closer to $6k and doesn t justify why. I asked why the changes with a run around of anesthesia and so forth. Then she proceeded to tell me that my dog could be an emergency surgery but the surgeon wasn t in until the morning so I may have to go to Mizzou in Columbia. What!?!? Why are you an Emergency clinic that isn t set for emergencies? Needless to say I paid the $100 for exam and drove to Columbia. Same procedure: $3600-$4200. They stuck with their pricing and the teaching college presented a significantly better environment for my dog and I. Worth the 2 hour extra drive there and back for the experience at VSS.
