For a university full of engineers there not very many good professors. This is a very sub par school. It would seem that many of the faculty members were hired simply because they agreed to teach in a small town in order to get a job in the US, not based on their abilities. It is difficult to understand all but one of my professors' English. Many professors are not professional or helpful. I have attended other schools in the UW system, and this ranks at the bottom. If I were not so against living in Madison or Milwaukee I would not be here. Tuition is cheap, you get what you pay for. Unless you have no other options, do not come here for engineering.

Great place to start your dream.

1: No.47 on the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (Non PhD School) in the U.S.A. in 2015-U.S.News and World Report;
2: No.1 R.O.I. in Wisconsin for in-state students and No. 4 for out-state students-PayScale;
3: Some professors have international background, which enriches the teaching and learning to be more international. Although some of them do not speak very good English, they are friendly and easy to reach for helpful.
4: a super safe small town setting with very friendly local people. Easy to walk across campus and to the center of this small town, but you need to drive to Dubuque (25 min) or Madison (1.2 h).

To me, UW-Platteville is a place for those whose mind is mature enough to think life and future. It is apparently not a place for those who want to enjoy city life, shopping and parties. It is a place for those who don't have lots of money or want to save some money from education, but still want to study in a decent university and fight for a promising future.

Good town and mostly good professors, never had a good math professor though. Financial aid is horrible and doesn't answer any questions or phone calls over the summer. They dont tell you anything until it's too late and screw you out of a lot of money on the little things. Watch your financial charges very carefully.

My daughter attends the UW-Platteville and I am so pleased with the support and experience she has had since starting. The comments about her professors is absolutely wrong - they have been outstanding!

A smaller University that offers many Engineering program rarely found outside of larger more expensive schools. Like any university there are area that could be improved, particularly more opportunities for communication between students and professors, but overall I feel I'm receiving a good education.

Worst place to go for any other degree besides engineering, terrible admin, horrible professors and a college that only cares about its admission numbers and the $$$, my only regret is that I didn t transfer out of that hick college sooner. Don t waste your money on what is Midwest s worst college

The main issue with UW - Platteville is the professors. There are a few great professors sprinkled throughout an institution of bad professors. Most of the professors do not speak English at a university level and/or do not show any interest in helping students out side of class. Some also do not care if you are struggling with a class. This university needs to have stricter hiring requirements.

This school is mediocre at best.

This school is mediocre at best.

There is nowhere to park and they never plow the roads/parking lots. When they do plow they require everyone to move their vehicles. There's nowhere for guests to park during the week.

Walkways are poorly cleared with many sidewalks not being cleared at all. Many times they are cleared once when it begins to snow and then more falls but they aren't cleared so they quickly become very slippery/icy.

The campus is poorly set up with many of the residence halls being very far away to the west or south of the academic buildings.

Quite hilly especially on the south/west sides.

There is nothing to do in Platteville. There are basically like 3 bars and no clubs. The only thing downtown is a jimmy johns.

The only thing more boring than town is the campus since it has almost no activities/events.

Cell service for gsm phones is poor on campus with no voice service and only recently did we get data service.

Financial aid refunds take 1-2 weeks longer to go out than my last two schools.

Only get $3 of printing credit per semester.

Residence halls are staffed very infrequently, usually from like 10a-12p then from 5p-7p. Which makes package delivery especially difficult.

No maintenance requests available on weekends even if they're relatively emergent.

Inclusivity is more for show here than actually trying to be inclusive. A lot of that has to do with the rural population in Platteville. lgbt is tolerated but only barely and only due to a recent crackdown on discrimination.

There aren't many places to sit/study in most of the academic buildings. The student center is really the only mixed use building that incorporates stuff like a cafe and other lounge area. The library is quite dated and it is hard to find anywhere for a large group study session.
