I once got lost on this base for 5 months. They then made me move into the oldest building on the base because they said I "enlisted" in the US Air force. I swear I took a wrong left turn and everything went down hill from there for the next 7 years. However, lets talk about when I lived here. The building I was put in one night water started coming from the electrical sockets, and even worse water from the "barracks" (that's what they kept calling it? I swore I checked into a hotel) top level trickled down from my ceiling vent in my bathroom (which btw it looked like the bathroom from the original Saw) into my toilet! The cleaners who wore this atrocious camo suit were very demanding and NEVER cleaned the rooms. Either way would not recommend & for this I give it 1 measly star.

Yesterday we received very poor customer service, from SAFB ID card section, very long wait, our name were never called, and our name was removed from the waiting monitor, I know Friday's are walk in, and in the end we did not get our ID cards. I also submitted a please contact request. Service procedure needs to be revamped.

This is possibly in of the worst BKs ever. They can't seem to keep people employed, the drive-thru is closed half the time. The wait time is ridiculous for fast food. They just spent a ton of money upgrading the inside and it looks nice and it has WiFi, but who want to spend half of their hour lunch waiting for mediocre fast food.

I had the chance to be here in 1974.

I studied at the space science academy.

Very nice place, the civilian staff working in the American air force.

It's a pleasure to be here.

Hi there, everybody.

I like it a lot. It's better than most places in Texas. There really is a lot to do here on base even though people complain that there isn't. This is like a college than an AFB. It does get hot but it's not the worst heat in Texas.

4 months of tech school training and while everybody will tell you it's boring and miserable down here, be mindful that it is all about what you make of it. Me personally, I played a lot of ping pong, super smash Bros, and ate at the defac alot. The dfac here is amazing so take advantage of it.

Sheppard Inn is awful. 2 miserable weeks, Called in my flapper valve in the toilet tank was leaking and the toilet refilled every 10 minutes on the 1st, 3rd, 6,7,8th days of my stay. Day 14, not fixed. It's 80 degrees out (my room is now 86) and the building can only have heat or ac, not both. Was told to use the fan they put in the room, I guess people think circulating hot air is some how cooler. When it did get cold, there is no seal around the door and window and the room unit can't keep up. The internet is not fast at all, I can barely load my government email. In all my inquiries, no one has anything positive to say about this place. The only reason they are still in business is they have enough crappy rooms to not let people stay off base.
I wish I could give less than 1 star. If I ever get forced here, god help me and the person that tells me I have to live here.

Sheppard was my first assignment in 1959 and friends and acquaintances told me that it was the worst possible assignment. I strongly disagree! I know that there was not much to do off base, but I got involved with base activities and enjoyed working with a great bunch of people. After all, you spend the greater part of the day at work, so that is very important! Over the next 21 years on active duty, I never had a bad assignment. And I know folks who say they never had a good one. It's all a matter of ATTITUDE. I think that you can appreciate the attractive elements of a place, or you can spend your time lamenting the fact that it doesn't have this or that and just be unhappy. I still subscribe to this philosophy of not putting my expectations on other people or places. So . . . to anyone who reads this, I say " I wish you happiness wherever you are. The choice is yours"

I was stations @ Sheppard in May and June of 1985. Became a crew chief at the 33rd FW @ Eglin AFB, FL. I had a blast at Sheppard. Our instructors were a bunch of awesome guys. We spent a lot of time at the Airman's Club and the Rec Center. I made so many good friends there an a lot of great memories. Looking at Google Earth, I see F-15's, 16's, and A-10's. When I was there, we trained on F-4's, F-101's, A-7's, T-37's and 38's. I remember when the very first A-10 was brought there for training. We were all in amazement of that awesome looking bird.
The theater played a lot of great movies. This is where I watched "The Breakfast Club" when it was first released. I think of Sheppard AFB every time I watch that movie. This place will always hold a special place in my heart.

im leaving to go there next week. Im driving from Delaware lol. I heard a lot of negative things about this place but Im looking forward to going there. My entire life I had always had a positive look on things even when the going got tough. Your cup is either half empty or half full... simple as that!

Does the weather suck? Yes. Are there lots of fun things to do? No.

But, my daughter was born when I was stationed there and the people were like family to us when we felt we were alone.

What should we look for in a place like Wichita Falls/Sheppard AFB? We look to see if we are with good folks, our family is safe and loved, and is God a part of our lives. Wichita Falls is not a Disneyland it's a place to raise your family and pass this part of our lives with great people.

I went to tech school at Sheppard in the summer of 1974. I was supposed to be trained on "jet engine aircraft, one and two engines". But on the very first day of classes ( I can still remember this very clearly ) just after the instructor ( a civilian, retired Air Force, a wonderful older gentleman ) had written that designation on the chalkboard another guy came into the room and whispered something into his ear. Our instructor was incredulous, but the man insisted he was correct. The instructor erased what he had written and replaced it with "piston engine aircraft"! A longer course by some three weeks, and so we learned on the KC-97s they had there. Oh well!
I was there about four months, an amazing growing and challenging time for this young lad. I've never been back, now live in Seattle. But it was Home for those 16 weeks of my then-young life.
Cheers Sheppard AFB!

I was at this base in the 70's for med tech training and I enjoyed my time
Even had to respond to real medical emergency while on a training exercise. From there I was deployed to European theater.

Mold and asbestos everywhere, staff is rude and unhelpful, nothing to do anywhere, infested with roaches and spiders, cafeteria food is disgusting, everybody is always complaining about these things but it seems nobody cares to help, i feel bad for the people that have to live here.

Was stationed here back in 2010 right out of basic. It was okay, nothing really good or bad about the place. The town sucks and there was only a handful of bars to go to on the weekends. Get in and get out, that's about it.

Worst Air Force Base out there. My husband graduated tech school and has been stuck on base for 3 extra weeks waiting on orders. Hasn t received them because of a mistake THEY made and the staff is too lazy and slow to fix it. He had to go out of his way to ask around to even discover there was a problem in the first place!! Was simply apologized too and told it would be fixed immediately. All they should have to do is say he no longer needs a form filled out that they originally said needed to be completed. Everytime he asks somebody what s taking so long they tell him we will work on it soon They are now switching his room, which leads to believe he isn t going anywhere anytime soon. I m 8 1/2 months pregnant and at this point i m doubting he will even be around for the birth of his daughter because of this!! This base needs a complete swap out of staff. Way too many people stuck there for months at a time because of the unmotivated employees.

Well just road past Sheppard on my way to OKC. I RECIEVED MY 7 level as a jet engine tech. There. I see people complaining about the cold, but i'm from NYC. So it's nice to me. I enjoyed Whichita Falls the times I was stationed there, the people that I met and hung out with had lots of fun.

If I could give no stars I would. Those working on this base are some of the worst I ve ever seen. Everybody is lazy and will never look to help anyone out. Supervision on this base is very lacking and has no control of setting a good atmosphere for those here. Air Force is told to look out for each other and treat others as family but not at this base. Those working here seem to enjoy being rude and as unhelpful as possible. There is a reason many people are starting to care less and less about the military and it s because of people like the ones working here. Very ashamed to see and hear all that goes on at this base. It s amazing the higher ups haven t stepped in to make it a better place.

The dorms are OK my shower floods after 2 mins of being in the shower(2 mins is how long it takes to even get hot)! Most of my friends dorms the sinks flood when you try to use em. The base is huge and the Main BX is like a mile away! They have a lot of dumb rules about head phones makes running no fun at all. The other thing is because the US gov only allows one internet provider they rape us with cost and give us net so slow it takes forever to download anything. The saying AF is the leader in tech is a total lie...! Over all I am disappointed in Sheppard AFB!

A lot of good times there but of course that was the 64-65 and Nam awaited us. I don't know what you'r looking for in a military base? They are all the same people just get through your time. I made a lot of good friends there and the people in town were wonderful.

80 degree room at night. Was told to live with it. No screen on my window. Was told that they don't have the money to fix it. The front desk could not possibly care less. Not joking they could not. The staff will do less than the minimum for you. If at all possible don't stay here. I would take stars away if I could.

My husband and I went to air shows in Europe during the four years I lived there, so I was really starting to get distraught that I couldn't find any around Oklahoma - that is until an acquaintance recommended the Sheppard AFB air show to me last week. I must say that after going to big shows like Berlin's ILA, Duxford, Sanicole, etc., I found today's show truly entertaining. The fact that I was easily paying 50 in tickets in Europe, I was impressed with the setup of the base and the well-executed exhibition schedule for being free entry. I wouldn't complain about concession prices as we bought lemonade, burgers and fries for two people all for $40, so I spent less at Sheppard than I did on tickets alone in Europe.

Fun

Came to town for the thunderbirds air show in 2019. Really a wonderful show, there were a bunch of heritage and active planes with pilots and crew present to explain key features. Several older planes flew and the thunderbirds! Great fun
