Urban Core Collective: A Community of Organizations Advocating for Systemic Change
Urban Core Collective is a community of six organizations that have come together to sustain and advocate for one another in the fight against systemic racism. The collective was formed with the aim of creating a more equitable society where everyone has equal access to opportunities, resources, and justice.
The six organizations that make up Urban Core Collective are:
1. Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC)
2. Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT)
3. Milwaukee Inner-City Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH)
4. Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association (MTEA)
5. Schools and Communities United (SCU)
6. Voces de la Frontera
Each organization brings its unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives to the collective, making it a powerful force in the fight against systemic racism.
BLOC is an organization that focuses on empowering black communities through voter engagement, leadership development, and community organizing. LIT is a youth-led organization that works towards social justice by engaging young people in activism and advocacy efforts.
MICAH is an interfaith coalition that advocates for social justice issues such as affordable housing, education equity, criminal justice reform, and immigration rights. MTEA represents over 5,000 educators in Milwaukee Public Schools and works towards improving public education through policy advocacy.
SCU is a coalition of parents, students, educators, faith leaders who work together to ensure every child has access to quality education regardless of their zip code or background.Voces de la Frontera advocates for immigrant rights by providing legal services to immigrants facing deportation or detention while also advocating for comprehensive immigration reform at local,state,and national levels.
Together these organizations form Urban Core Collective which aims at ending systemic racism by addressing its root causes such as poverty,housing discrimination,police brutality,school-to-prison pipeline among others.The collective uses various strategies including community organizing, policy advocacy, and direct action to bring about change.
Urban Core Collective is committed to creating a more just and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. The collective believes that by working together, they can achieve their goal of ending systemic racism and creating a better future for all.
