My sister-in-law is hospitalized today at St Margaret's hospital. I called the hospital switchboard at 8:00 last night. Staff were very helpful and told me that the gift shop opens today. Sis needs a phone charger, badly. I called the gift shop this morning at about 10:00 the nice gentleman who took my call delivered the phone charger to sis within 1 hour of my call. Can't tell you how much that means to us to be able to know that we can be in touch with her even though we can't be physically present.

Excellent facility and staff. The nurse my mom had during an ER visit for a stroke was the most thorough exam I have witnessed. The place is very clean and they move you through testing in a timely manner and get you to a room quickly if admitted. This is the best hospital in the A-K Valley.

My husband went in to have his gallbladder removed. The staff were all wonderful, friendly and informative. They never made us feel lesser for not knowing something. The hospital environment was comfortable and inviting. The waiting room felt more like a hotel then a hospital. With the boards all around the hospital informing you of updates on your loved one you never feel out the loop.
They also called the next day to see how he was. We have been so satisfied with a hospital. Highly recommend.

I had to have a hip arthroscopy. Everyone from the check-in ladies to nurses, techs, PAs, and doctors were so friendly. They were efficient, gentle, and so caring even though they were so busy and COvid-19 made things a little more complicated. I m from out of state and will return every time I need a procedure done. Thank you so much and God bless!

Randy the nurse in the emergency department is absolutely awful at his job. No compassion, easily frustrated, deeply unprofessional. You're better off dying than going to a upmc facility. Despicable business practices, nothing positive to say

May God bless you if you are taken here. This hospital has a bad reputation for careless practice and staph infections. I've had four members of my family get infections and one death over a span of twelve years. The minute you gain consciousness, run....

Trying to advocate for my mom who was a patient in...

Trying to advocate for my mom who was a patient in the ED. I was being ignored by her physician and RN. I was accused of intervening in her care. She was in respiratory distress/failure and we needed to have discussions over our plan of action and her goals of care. ER RN decided to step in and offer his opinion that my mother should be a "Do not intubate" suggesting that if she were to stop breathing that we do nothing to save her. My mother is 62, she has a will to live like no one else. I don't think your RNs should be acting outside of their scope of practice like that. Especially when my mother has been documented as a full code.

This is what happens when you raise your concerns to the nurses in the ER at St. Margaret. They get upset that their ego got bruised and get their police to forcibly remove you from you mother's bedside. Without giving me the chance to assist her in possible life ending care. When you've don't nothing more than told the nurse to leave the room. Which as a patients daughter I have every right to dismiss a provider caring for my mother. Also when I requested transfer to another hospital in within the system my requests were ignored.

The nurses name was RANDY LONG. He is HIGHLY unprofessional and should be releived of his professional duties. The officer did not name himself. When I asked for his name and badge number he refused to give it to me, covered his badge and said "you'll get it in the report". The report was never sent to me and the officer contacted MY place of employment and had me disciplined when he assaulted me!!!!

When I got to my ER room, I was greeted by Dominic...

When I got to my ER room, I was greeted by Dominic, a tech who would start my IV and send in my blood work. He was personable, caring, and made jokes trying to make the sick better, He was awesome. The X-ray tech Bruce was awesome too! He felt bad that I was in terrible back pain, and he would ask me if I was ok. He was empathetic, caring, and had a good sense of humor. I only saw the nurse twice. Once was for pain meds and the second time was for discharge. Bruce and Dominic are the reasons I am giving a 3 star rating. I saw the nurse twice in the 5 hours period. At one point, the nurse shut the door all the way and it locked. I could not get it to open from the inside. This is a safety issue. I rang for the nurse because I needed to use the bathroom, and I had to wait 15 minutes. I finally pulled the blind open and knocked on the glass door to get someone's attention. I'm not sure if it was a doctor or nurse, but he said they keep the doors locked for Covid19. He was very rude, and i could hear him talking about me to another person.

Had the worst experience of my lifetime at St. Mar...

Had the worst experience of my lifetime at St. Margaret. In fact, it was so bad that I believe that I got PTSD from thexperience. As an officer in the US Army for over 25 years and served in two wars, my terrible and life-changing experience was like nothing I ever experienced before. I was having very sharp pain in my side for hours and finally asked my fiancee to take me to the hospital. Being somewhat new to the area, we decided to go to UPMC St. Margaret. Once I got there, I remember a nurse screaming at a visitor for a long period of time. It was very unprofessional. As the secretary was in-processing me, I fell to the floor and began to vomit in the office. They quickly got me to a room and put a port in my arm. The nurse at the time believed I had a kidney stone from the symptoms. Unfortunately, she left and never cam back and they never provided me nurses call button. After lying there for thirty minutes in extreme pain like I never felt before, I fell out of the bed and the alarm began to sound. Minutes went by and nobody showed up to my room. I physically crawled out into the hallway to only see a few nurses talking down the hall. After they saw me yelling for help and lying on floor, they began to yell at me; "Go back to your room!" I reiterated I needed help and some pain medication. They continued to ignore me, and it was then I decided to leave this hospital. Only now, they seemed concerned, they asked me to stay, except for one young male nurse. He began to ridicule me by saying; "if you want to leave, just leave" and "you are not that sick anyways." As I got more upset, I then began to yell for my fiancee to help because this now seemed so surreal. He then made the comment; "there is noone here for you, so I dont know who you are yelling for." I did not know they made her leave the hospital with no instructions, even though I was permitted one visitor. I then demanded the port to be removed from my arm and he remioved the port, I then patted him on the shoulder blade and said, thanks for nothing. It was then my life was turned upside down. He asked the security to arrest me and accused my of actually "punching" him which never occurred. The hospital security them took me to a small room and let me lay there on the floor while I had another police officer continue to mock and belittle me while I lied on the floor vomitting. He kept saying that I was not that sick and get off the floor. I actually begged for help numerous times for over an hour. About 90 minutes later, they finally treated me and the doctor stated that I had a kidney stone. I was given medication and then the security to me to the Allegheny County Jail. While on the way to the jail, the driving officer stated that he could not believe I was arrested for this and the arresting officer stated he did not want to arrest me but had to because the nrsing staff would have complained. He acknowledged that I did not punch him but still had written down as such. I then spent eight hours in jail. Let me remind you, that in my 47 years on earth, I was never arrested or been handcuffed in my lifetime. At this point, my entire military career was in jeopardy becasue of the actions of this incompetent nurse and securty officer. They charged me with simple assault, aggrevated assault, and disorderly conduct. At this point, I had no choice but to accept the disorderly conduct to protect the military career that I have worked so hard for with a spotless record. This, even after they refused to provide the video of the incident after I requested. To this day, I have nightmares about that evening and experience and it has affected me emotionally. I highly recommend that nobody goes to this hospital for anything. Oh by the way, I was hospitalized a few days later for the kidney stones and had three surgeries that were not addressed by the St. Margaret.
