The emergency room is the worse!! I got there at 3:50 and didn t get triaged until 5. And still had to wait almost two hours to get called back. I asked one of the nurses what was the hold up. They re response was that they were extremely busy. I wouldn t recommend anyone going to Mercy Hospital for an emergency!! Especially if you re really sick. I wouldn t go back to that hospital if I was on my death bed!!!

I gave birth to both of my children here and LOVED all the nurses and staff. They are so supportive and caring.I would definitely recommend the Labor and Delivery Dept. Their nurses are out of this World..

You gals and guys are just amazing. Thank you so much. I honestly thank you. Never in my life have I been taken care of so good before. Just an awesome staff of doctors, students, nurses, and techs. You all should be damn proud of your selves. Again thank you so much for getting this hard headed lug healthy. I'm so impressed. You give the medical arena a outstanding name. I'm just overly grateful for what you were able to do for me, even though I was not happy I had to stay overnight. But I understand I had to now, and thank you. Everyone was amazing, the doctors, the student who got to experiment(learn) on me, John my rn who bs'd fishing with me. Megan my tech, who made sure my vitals were good, and got me clean blankets, and food. That girl is a saint. Kat my other rn who was great at keeping my spirits high on getting out of there. The doctor on my out was amazing on getting the best treatment. Just awesome experience all together. Seriously you all need to give yourselves some high fives. Just awesome thank you.

I have never felt so genuinely cared about in a hospital before I needed to visit Mercy. I stayed for 21 days and the intensive care doctor's and nurses literally saved my life, while Dr. Philbin and Dr. Chopra saved my future. As great as the doctors were, however, they don't hold a candle to the 8th floor nurses. That could have been the worst three weeks of my life, but those girls made it a comfortable, relaxing and healing time. Thank you Emily, Jen, Jodi - all of you for your kindness, patience and humor. Thank you for the endless pitchers of ice and ginger ales, lol, for doing your very best to make sure I was comfortable and my mom had a cozy place to rest when she stayed with me. Thank you too the volunteers for the spiritual wellness AND guidance that was offered and the therapy dog, Ally, who really brightened some of my days. The facility is clean and modern, the gardens and fountains outside are lovely and the food is even good too!

I also want to thank the social workers, case managers and dieticians that helped me. They found me a safe, affordable, comfortable respite when I was well enough to leave but not well enough to be alone or far away. They gave me the information I needed to plan the types of meals that help me heal, reduce the risks of reoccurring health issues, etc.

Thumbs up, Mercy staff. Thanks for everything!

Terrible.

Terrible.
I think this is the worst hospital in the Upmc health system , mostly for teaching and young drs. If you have a choice don't go here. I developed bed sores while in this hospital. They won't kill you but , they barely keep you alive.

Hate my experience here, I was in a car accident on 1/4/19 and since I was in Pittsburgh for work and I live five hours away the EMT recommended this hospital, he said if I was him he would go here. When I arrived to to the E.R the hospital didn t look very welcoming and it s very outdated. I told them that I was in a car accident and even though I was into the hospital I was limping and I was in pain. Once they called me to be seen by a nurse I was limping and you would have thought they would have gotten me a wheelchair but I guess that was to much to ask for. After she did the initial blood pressure check and a few other things still no wheelchair and I was escorted to this little small dirty area that really wasn t a room, it just had curtains that were tattered and filthy. I m 6 1 and they put me on a bed that was for the size of a toddler and they had me on that bed for 9 and a half hours. Some of the nurses felt bad for me and wanted to get another bed but someone must have told them they couldn t even though I seen other empty larger beds. My legs were hanging off of the bed and they never came to check on me even though I was in more pain from being on the bed, they just gave me some pills to help with the pain but it seem like they gave them to me to shut me up. They didn t even hand me the call button to call for a nurse if I needed help, I had to yell and ask someone for help with the pain, the nurse that came aided me and she said that if I needed further help to ring the call button but she seen that I was never given it and I didn t know if there was one in that area since it really wasn t a room, she apologized and handed it to me. After being there for hours taking drugs and getting sick from them I had a CT test and MRI, when I was able to eat something after being there since 11:30am to about 9:30pm they gave me food that looked like it was for someone in jail, a cold sandwich, with meat on a hamburger bun with cheese and nothing else and a cup of water and a few snacks but at least I got that! My cousin was the only one from Pittsburgh that I knew and he came to pick me up and he said he would have never suggested this hospital, he said no one in Pittsburgh would suggest this hospital so he didn t know why the EMT did, it must been because I m Black. I m an entrepreneur that works hard and I have insurance and to be subjected to this lack of treatment was in disrespectful and of disbelief! I was so thankful that my cousin was from Pittsburgh to come and get me. I felt a little better just getting out of there! That was the worst hospital experience I ve ever had!

Went to ER, sent me out the same way I came in. Did nothing more than what you d get at a MedExpress only it took 4 hours. Was referred outside of the hospital?! I don t get time off work to make appointments to see a dr if I m going to the ER it s because something is wrong not to be referred somewhere I can t go. Ridiculous waste of time and of course money. Don t waste your time if you re looking to feel better when you leave.

I have a somewhat long history with UPMC Mercy. Two surgeries with hospital stays and numerous day surgeries to monitor a long term issue I have. I was in Tues June 5 for a routine scope of the upper digestive system. The whole staff was kind and attentive. We engaged in pleasant conversation while they worked and though I went in there somewhat nervous (I have never been comfortable with being under anesthesia). They put me at ease and showed interest in my level of comfort. They always are...the warm blanket are my favorite comfort. My husband was included in the loop as I had requested...Thank you all so much! You all are angels of Mercy!

Scheduled an appointment Friday the labor day week...

Scheduled an appointment Friday the labor day weekend for the following (Monday). I asked if Monday is a holiday 3 times. The staff confirmed they are working and I can come in (no appointment needed). I have several things scheduled for this day and at the hospital to do and got all of them confirmed with the hospital staff.

I drove for an hour on Monday morning to get there, I walked in and they told me it s a holiday, don t you know that . Do you trust this hospital? I don t and I would never go back there again. This is outrageous, I didn t need to drive for an hour, I could ve scheduled an appointment in a work day just like I requested at first. But lying is BAD! You loose your reputation if you lie to people!!!! I tired to file a complaint in the hospital, I got yelled at. Please, do not confirm appointments with people if you do not have them available. What kind of business is this. Ugh

Totally unfair!!!!!!!

Nothing but great experiences there! From the kind welcome at the end of the bridge to the patient and very competent doctors, all of which
Make me feel safe there. I would give more than 5 stars if I could.

Mercy Hopsital use to be a great hospital until recently. The experiences ive had this week between the same day surgery on monday and then this evening really makes me sick The emergency room physican was not very knowledgable and was playing the turf war game delayed my care for over a hour. With this covid crisis going on that is totally unacceptable you think you would want to get patients taken care of quickly and dispo to either inpatient or discharged. Once i heal up from my surgery I will not go back. I would rather go to preaby and thats sad to say.

The era staff was great it was a busy saturday night and they did a great job we were there for quite a while but it was busy. The one surprising thing was that they had B.E.T. television on all the TVs in waiting room

Thoroughly awful place with self-interested doctors who ignore obvious problems on tests and send you home without a diagnosis. If you have the choice, stay far away from this terrible place. Id give it 0 stars if i could. Worthless.

Worst hospital I have ever been in. My father is elderly and is getting the lousiest care I have ever seen. Never see the same doctor. I traveled in from Virginia and it was one excuse after another of why there wasn t a diagnosis. No one is on the same page!!! Lack of communication and they don t respond to my mom in a timely fashion if they remember to call her. Takes us over an hour to get there and then can t find a doctor for us to speak with. Are you kidding!!!!!

Nurses and staff were nothing but kind, tolerant and wasted no time into getting their patients back on their feet! I am extremely grateful! Good nurses and doctors are hard to come by anymore these days.

This Hospital Birthed my only child, my son in May 2016! The whole experience and care provided by the staff and hospital were beyond exceptional! Tara & Deb in Labor & Delivery ARE TRULY ROCK STARS! Hands down, I can't say thank you enough or express in words how much these two nurses mean to us, especially me! Thank you for your care, support, and excellent care!!

Not that I recommend having to stay in any hospital, the staff and nurses during our time spent here were amazing. Very kind and willing to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. Most importantly made out little guy, the patient, feel safe and at ease.

I have never seen a hospital so filthy dirty. The bathrooms were so bad my feet stuck to the floor. Bandages and debris everywhere. The emergency room reception person was more like a statue-the doctors and nurses were fine. If you're in bad pain, go to another emergency room.

Went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription and i guess no one works there. I feel that mercy hospital needs to hire people with experience instead of people just sitting there doing nothing. Please help them hire people with experience that knows what to do at a pharmacy or a hospital. Thank you

The nurses and staff are amazing and wonderful but the doctors were distant and they refused to listen to me about my injury and refused to give me my CT scans so I can see an orthodontist outside of the hospital because getting there is a huge inconvenience for me.

This place saved my life had a very terrible infection in my heart that went to my lungs was in there for 3 weeks was on several diff floors and everyone was great except for the very 1st floor I was on before my surgery the staff would not even come 99 percent of the time when you called for them they would hide from you at med time never got it at the right time but I also feel like they were super short staffed on that floor there was I believe only 1 to 2 nurses some times for the entire wing but every other floor I was on was great

I was rushed to the emergency room on October 20th...

I was rushed to the emergency room on October 20th with severe stomach pain, coming in out of consciousness and vomiting. The nurse(mid 20 s brunette lean) that came out to assist me into a wheel chair immediately began to make fun of me, assuming I was drunk. I was not. This pain has happened before and without the influence of alcohol. Once the nurse brought me inside, she continued to mock me as if I was just drunk and proceeded to laugh at my expense. Mind you, I was in SEVERE pain. She made me feel extremely embarrassed. I was in such pain that I could not convey it had nothing to do with alcohol. All I could do was listen to her laugh as she then tried to insert an IV and failed multiple times to find the vein. Picture enclosed. The doctor s however, was very very very nice and helped me through my pain. Regardless if I was overly intoxicated, if I am in need of medical assistance, no one, especially a nurse that I am putting my faith in, should be mocking me. Completely unprofessional and heart breaking that a UPMC mercy emergency nurse would conduct herself in this manner. Absolutely absurd. I give this a 2 star only because the doctor was extremely helpful and saw me within 10 minutes.

8th Floor Nurses and Staff Best Care Ever!

8th Floor Nurses and Staff Best Care Ever!

My son recently spent 3 days at Mercy on the 8th floor. The care he received was outstanding. In the past I worked in several hospitals and can say that the nurses, doctors and other staff went above and beyond while caring for my son. It was a nerve racking time for my family and I truly believe he received the best care. I thank all of you!

TERRIBLE HOSPITAL! SERIOUSLY! I called to check on my brother, because he had been brought to the ER. I called for HOURS, literally from 2-8pm and it kept saying their reps were TOO BUSY, with other callers. For SIX HOURS? So I called at 6:17a the next morning--6/21/2020--I decided to just call the main number instead and what do you know, someone FINALLY picked up. I asked about my brother, they said he wasn't showing in the system, so I asked if he could transfer me to the ER as I had already said that's where he was taken, and he did. The guy in the ER picked up, and was the ONLY, nice one! The first guy who picked up, was short and sounded irritated to have to speak with me. They guy in the ER was good and asked for brother's name etc., I gave it to him, and he said it looks like he was taken upstairs, so he transferred me to the department he was taken up too. Well, Jodie in Tower 8, was even LESS, helpful. I told her every, and just asked for his "pin." I said what pin? She said she can't give out any information without having his pin number. Again, I said, WHAT PIN? Then she finally says that he would have given one in the ER. I said I wasn't with him in the ER, and just says again that she can't give me any info without a pin. Mind you all this with a monotone, unsympathetic tone, sounding like she was just as annoyed as the first guy. I have been here and to the ER numerous times myself, and they were a lot better, with better staff, before UPMC took over! I hate this place now!

Overall a great hospital. My mom spent two months in this hospital and stayed on 4 different floors. The doctors are friendly and the nurses work hard. We experienced a few bumps in the road with the staff, but no hospital is perfect. The hospitals computerized system for patient care is outstanding. The hospital staff played a key role at keeping my mom healthy enough to recover from surgery and move on to therapy. I would recommend this hospital to friends and family.

The only reason the hospital does not receive the 5 stars is due to the excessive smoking at the main entrance. There is a sign that says no smoking but it is not enforced. I ve never seen a hospital with so many cigarette butts scattered around in the front of the hospital.

I gave birth here in May of 2017 and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The nurses were wonderful! I really wanted to go as long as possible without pain medicine and they were very encouraging. I was admitted at 3:00 am and my overnight nurse sat and talked with me for an hour to keep my mind off the pain. I delivered that day in the afternoon and before I left, both the overnight nurse and the one who helped me deliver came to meet the baby and give their congrats. They also sent a congrats/thank you card a few weeks later and personally signed with well wishers and even named my baby by name. One fun thing: if you call the front desk and tell them you gave birth, they will play Happy Birthday for your baby over the speakers for the hospital to celebrate with you. Try getting any of these things at Magee! Magee is still a good hospital, but if you are looking for a more one-on-one, personalized delivery but aren't quite ready to leap to a birthing center or home birth like I was, this is probably your best bet. I will be going here for baby #2.

The doctors at this facility were horrible. From waiting almost 10 hours to be seen by anyone other than a nurse after having a chest tube jammed in by a lone resident in the ER, to being left in the hospital over the weekend for no reason, only to be "discharged" at 0800 and to still be sitting here at 530pm waiting for an xray from 4 hours ago to be read.

This is my second experience at mercy hospital and it is the absolute worst of all hospital's.. I can't believe a hospital can be so very extremely the worst.. especially the e.r.
I will never allow myself to visit this pathetic excuse of an e.r.
Good look to anyone that has to visit this pathetic excuse of an e.r

I would not take someone here if you gave the money. The nurses barely come in and half the time you cannot find them. You don't get answers. And we have nearly 2 days left with our terminally ill sister and we have been waiting on an ambulance that seems to be taking it's good old time taking her home! ONE DAY LOST with our sister. Never been more disappointed in a hospital.

I went for my colonoscopy yesterday on Friday the 13th of July, 2018. Obviously not an auspicious day. I had some dread as I didn't know what to expect, as my previous colonoscopy was at Mercy outpatient in the South Side, now closed. The nurses (in the endoscopy dept?) were universally nice, which was a relief, as the regimen was different for the prep the day before, and was a lot more grueling than three years prior. The procedure went well with Dr. Appasamy, who did the same great job without a hitch as usual, and the nurses even gave me a little can of Pepsi afterward. Boy, was I thirsty as nothing was allowed 4 hours prior to the procedure. They gave me a plastic draw string bag, with the socks that I had to wear during the procedure. But I wasn't aware till I got home, that inside the bag was a thank you card signed by all four nurses, Sally, Diane, Jennifer, and Luanne. That was really nice. No one likes to go to the hospital for surgery. But if you go to Mercy, you can count on great attentive nurses, who are kind as well.

This is a wonderful Catholic hospital

This is a wonderful Catholic hospital
even i am not Catholic. But i was a patient at UPMC Mercy Hospital, I had
a peace come over me and there in my
opinion was a Father that came to because Father Jehovah God sent him to me and i felt the healing Power of
Jesus Christ come through the prayer of Faith, and the Father gave unto me the Catholic Blessing. And I think the doctors and nurses are wonderful people who work together for that vary healing through our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ praise God.

Always known as THE hospital in Pittsburgh for quality of care and empathy for patients, now their facilities and equipment are improving because of their move to the UPMC system. This hospital is nicer than ever, and the Catholic culture of extraordinary care has been maintained. There's no replacement for compassion in health care.

The security guard accused me of having something bigger than my belly button ring going off in the metal detector that he had to wand me. I assured him I emptied my pockets and when the wand buzzed on my zipper I asked him if that s what it was and he says uh I don t know well don t you think you should figure that out before I come into the hospital? I mean make you re mind up am I good? Or no good? The staff just seems irritated, maybe over worked?

The womans oncology dept is wonderful. my surgery was done beautifully and recoveres very fast from the wonderful care i recieved. 4 stars where giving because of the ER they treat everyone as drug seeking. i was an extreme pain from crohns and lupus....but the gave me nothing...and they failed to tell me i had a HUGE cyst on my ovary. i found out 14 days later on myupmc page. they are the worst.

Will not go back I had open heart surgery when I was young back in 1978. Because I was from a rehabilitation center the staff treated me like I was retarded and never explain to me what was going on. The room I was in was a dump and dirty. Food was bad. Staff and doctors where mean I do hope that u.p.m.c changed this hospital. But as of now I would not send a dog here

Every time within the last 10 years that I have visited the emergency room at Mercy hospital, they have failed me. My primary care doctor is located in Mercy hospital and his office is fantastic, but the emergency room needs to be improved and it appears alot of the other reviews on google agree.

what i thought was a pulled muscle on my side of my stomach ended up as appendicitus. i am very thankful that they treated me as soon as they figured what i actually had. the only bad thing (in my opinion) was that they were out of the good flavored jello :) also, that event gave me the opportunity to quit smoking and as of now, i am almost 1.5 years tobacco free. big thanks to the surgeon, doctors, and nurses.

I gave birth my baby boy last month, July 10th 2017- and I had the best experience ever when I thought I was gonna be afraid. But nurses are really kind and awesome! I can't thank enough for all what they did;
and special I want to thank the Doctor Constantine Kralios for Being such a great doctor and very helpful with me. Thank you thank you!!!
He and the nurse Erin, motivated me when I was in labor. Thank you very much!!
Definitely great hospital!

Hands down worst hospital I ve ever been to. Awful service, I waited for 4-5 hours even tho I was in crazy amount of pain. The male nurse kept giving me attitude the whole time. Just go to Jefferson or somewhere else cause that place is trash

Somebody needs to be accountable for when packing up patients belongings. I was transfered from regular room to ICU. I was not there when this was done. I don't understand how all personal items were in one spot when this was done. Everything was packed up and accounted for EXCEPT my upper dentures. They were in a blue denture cup, sitting right there where everything else was. And you missed them? NOW, Mercy is telling me they are not responsible and they are not going to reimburse me for them. This is bull. We will see.

Don't be fooled by the brand name. This hospital's level of care is terrible. I came to visit my friend who was admitted for a hip fracture, and we had a terrible time getting ANY nurse to come to assist with mobility from the bed to the chair and especially for bathroom needs. Multiple times he was not able to hold it, and would urinate on the floor, himself and the bed. When a nurse finally did come, she didn't change his soaked linens, but let him lie there in the wet and stench. When I went out to the hall to look for a nurse, they would say they would get his nurse, but after 15 minutes, no one came. After 30 minutes, still no one came. This hospital's service is a disgrace, their help is incompetent, rude, inefficient and lacking in willingness to help and assist their patients. When a hospital is in the business of taking care of the sick and elderly, it is their responsibility not to neglect their duties. When they fall short, they get a review such as this.

I would not be able to trust that my own family would be well taken care of after seeing how my friend's needs were ignored, time and time again. The nurses and doctors did not clearly communicate in layman's terms, what was going on, procedures, medications, etc. Instead, my friend and his family were interrogated by a team of "professionals" to determine the cause of his symptoms. This interrogation was unnecessary and caused much emotional and mental distress of my friend and his family.

Cool

If i could give one star i would I wouldn t even send my dog here its the worst experience with a hospital I have ever had with my mother. My mother was taken here because the ambulance refused to take her to Passavent in north hills and I called for 12 hours to the emergency room and no one answered the phone it just kept ringing and ringing and i didn't hear anything about my mother for 18 hours because that is when I had to call the operator and she connected me with the nurses station all the doctors and nurses here are really unprofessional they refused for four days to give her the medicine she is prescribed to take daily for 4 years now. She also has bruises and scratches all up her arm and she told them that she has a puppy that does that and got the marks from playing they were accusing her of being a drug addict because she is on narcotics for her pain in her back and shoulder they told the doctor that she claims the puppy did the marks on her arm and that she didn t do them they also treated her like garbage. The doctor there was suppose to call me and he never called me back and when i called to talk to my mother they always said she was getting testing done or was sleeping and they wouldn t let me talk to her at all for three days worst hospital run away from this place. The nurses and doctors are just nasty to the patient and the families.

My daughter had her wisdom teeth out there yesterday. Dr. Chung was awesome. With all the delays and all it went well. They gave us food vouchers. And everyone there was so friendly and helpful.I was very impressed. They are so much friendlier than Excela Latrobe..We were treated with respect and utter kindness.I can not thank you all enough.Same day surgery and waiting areas are to be commended. They are all wonderful.

I go here to see a few specialists. It's pretty big so you can get lost easy. The workers at the information desks will set you on the right way, and the people who run the gift shop are very nice. My dad was here in the CVICU and while he's passed now, they took good care of him.

The nurses staff is polite and under alert of pressure this doesn't justify that my medical needs were repeatedly ignored and when I asked why it was happening they asked whether I was in good mental health and wanted to hurt mysepf... which is basically a threat to 302 me

Everyone had a pleasant demeanor but everyone outs...

Everyone had a pleasant demeanor but everyone outside of the rehabilitation staff was lackadaisical and wrote off serious medical concerns. My father ended up half blind because they minimized his complaints and ignored him when he told them about vision problems. In addition, they allowed him to go for weeks without his oral cancer medication.

Coordination of care within the UPMC system is terrifically poor and my father's doctors didn't even know that he was having headaches despite my father complaining of them and the headaches being recorded in his file.

UPMC: Death By Bureaucracy.

Such a relief to know that my friend was taking care of at Mercy Hospital with compassion and respect, after two other doctors prior to this visit, sent her home with no regards. My friend was immediately admitted with the care she needed and deserved! Thank you to the ER staff of Mercy Hospital.

I highly DO NOT recommend this hospital! Out of all things and I feel the most important, they definitely will not try and save your life or at least help you save your own life! I myself called into the emergency department (because I was referred to them from a friend who went through the process herself), and asked how I go about getting into their D&A detox program because I don t want to die and am ready to change my life and the man I spoke with asked me a few very specific questions and after answering them was told to come into the er and I would be admitted to the detox program, only to drive all the way to the hospital and meet with Jenae (I apologize if the spelling is wrong) who was supposedly a counselor but I never even saw an ID badge, and was asked a few more questions not really even relevant to my current situation or what brought me to come in today and then was denied treatment because I didn t fit the criteria for treatment but she was willing to recommend a few different options for outpatient treatment when I definitely needed inpatient detox but was also asking for help to save my life! By the grace of God whenever I left I immediately called other treatment centers and found somewhere who is willing to take me tonight and sent a driver out immediately to pick me up! I am so grateful for finding this facility because I do not want to die! Im just not sure what the criteria is in order for them to decide who s life they try and save or who they decide to pass on.
