I went to western back in February for overdosing on meds. I was an amazing stay and ever since then i have been doing way better. Way better hospital than the other psych hospital i was in. The staff is really sweet and caring. I loved the food, the groups were really fun, and when i had my birthday in there, everyone was so sweet. 10/10 Would recommend.

My dad ia getting better. Due to an old injury and his own fathers death he was catatonic and delerious. Back home he wpukdnt eat and they kept him constantly arms and legs tied to the bed. They didnt feed him for 13 days amd wanted to stick him in a nursing home. We sent him to upmc presby who diagnosed him in less than 48 hrs and sent him to western psych. Feeding tube is out and he eats on his own, and he can speak in clear sentences when all he did prior was mumble strange things you couldnt understand. My only complaint is that they have him in the sitting room alllll day long.

Cannot say enough bad of this place. Resident 'physicians' not knowing a damn thing about mental illness, foreign med. grads with very poor English, nurses with major attitude problems, a punitive environment, rotten food not fit for dogs or hogs, over admission because they want all the money they can get, and so called groups led by unqualified staff.

I signed myself out and will tell anyone if you need help don't go to WPIC. I didn't give anyone, staff or other patients a hard time, I was respectful to all and I was treated like a criminal, garbage and sub - human.

Also I was already on two psych meds, low dose and was taken off both instead of the dose being raised or one of the meds changed. They are militant anti - benzodiazepine and I was on low dose xanax and I suffered terrible anxiety from cold turkey withdrawal. The other drug an anti-depressant they could have simply raised as it was low dose but changed which was fine but they switched me immediately which was the wrong thing to do as I found out from my outpatient psych.doc.

They are horrible. They don't even qualify as human. This is a cheap warehouse front for the drug companies. Avoid WPIC.

I didn't enjoy my stay but it depends on your own situation and how your stay was. The teen side was very unsettling for me back in March. It causes way more stress when you are forced to be in here and you can't see people that make you happier. Other than that the place was decent, had video games to pass time along with some other stuff but its like a revolving door.

If I could give them zero stars I would. This place is horrible! The patients are treated like prisoners, some are held against their will. It's so sad to watch.

Today I got seen in their Emergency Department. I was transported by ambulance from UMPC Shadyside around 6:30 pm, got signed in around 7:13 pm and didn't see the DOCTOR until after 3 am! It's ridiculous how I had to wait 8 hours to be seen, just to be told to continue therapy.

Today will be my last day going here when I'm in a crisis. The way this place is ran is outrageous.

This place is a complete joke. My daughter was admitted for a suicide attempt. She broke through a locked box and a locked door and got to everyone in the houses' meds, including her own. She was life flighted to Childrens, then she was admitted against my wishes to Western Phyc. She is being released in 2 days. Seeing this is her 6th hospitalization and she spent a year in CCR after she tried to kill me, I wanted the "phyciatrist" to refer her back to CCR. Esp. because I have no way of keeping her or the rest of our pills secure. Her therapist she has at home recommended a couple family therapy sessions before discharge but they won't do it. Now I am trying to decide, do I let her come home completely off meds and the rest of us in the family stop taking our meds or do I go get a PFA because she hits me so that she can in the long run get the mental help she needs? Because of the age 14 law, I have no say over anything regarding her meds or mental health.
