According to a Property person called Nigel Howarth, The British High Commission formerly recommended an English speaking lawyer called Louise Zambartas. I am unsure if they still do however our experience of dealing with these individuals was not a pleasant one at all. I am so glad that we did not buy property in Cyprus. Upon reflection it would have been a nightmare. AVOID.

Due to a Burglary at the Villa we were staying at in Cyprus, mine and my wife's Passports were stolen, the British High Commission in Nicosia couldn't have been more helpful. The staff were very helpful and sympathetic to what had happened to us and made us feel at ease when we picked up our temporary Passports. Thanks to all involved.

I was in Cyprus for just 24 hours. My bag was stolen. I lost my British passport along with my driving license, cash and all bank cards.

The next morning I went to the British High Commission as I urgently needed to get back to the UK the same day. I arrived at the time advertised on the commission website, 7:30 am. I spoke into an intercom at the gate and was advised to call the number that was also posted on the gate from a different intercom machine, also on the gate. This call was with a contact centre based in Malaga, Spain.

I explained that I was completely stranded with no money and no ID but that just fell on deaf ears.

I wasn t expecting tea and sympathy but I find it staggering that there was no face to face interaction, that I had to get useless advice from someone on the other side of Europe and that I could not get out of one EU country to another for another four days. I found myself wondering if I d accidentally rocked up to the wrong consular office, you know, like North Korea or Congo or something. No, this was the British High Commission.

The one and only time I have needed consular assistance and, quite frankly, the support offered is utterly pathetic. If you find yourself in a similar situation, good luck. You will absolutely need it. The lesson learned here is consular assistance is pretty much non existent for UK nationals and under no circumstances should you allow your personal belongings be stolen. Go figure.

I got water damage to my passport whilst on holiday in north Cyprus. I called the British consulate and spoke to a very helpful lady called Louise. It wasn t very straightforward as north Cyprus had a Turkish holiday (bayram) all week so Louise had to call me back after she had worked out what could be done. So basically they opened up the office just for me to give them all my paperwork who then took it all over to south Cyprus to get an emergency passport sorted out to then bring it back over to north Cyprus! The service was exceptional and I couldn t thank Louise and all involved enough. It certainly put my mind at ease for the rest of my holiday and was all sorted in a matter of hours. You are a credit to our country and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
