After submitting a ticket appeal I followed up 5 times (saying I was in Hawaii at XX dates to meet up in court). It took over 3 months to receive a letter with a proposed court date at which point I was already gone. I live in Canada so there was no way I could travel back to HI for court.
The response was "you can hire an attorney to represent your case". That is obviously not reasonable seeing as it would cost more than the ticket.
Also, the speeding ticket was for over-taking a car on a legal passing lane when it was safe to do so. You pretty much always have to speed to pass to do it quickly and not endanger oncoming cars. This was in my appeal case...

Hope I get this right. Here's to Lee S. Extraordinary employee! This gentleman actually enjoys his job, most people don't. You can hear it in his voice, It must really be hard to not give legal advice, while answering all of the question's that all seem to border on it. Very knowledgeable. Thanks to Y'all for the job's y'all do.
This is one money hungry state. If you're pulled over, don't even waste your time writing a letter to the judge, as suggested by the officer. That officer already knows that if you're from out of town or military, the judge is going to make you pay the ticket. These ridiculous traffic laws. They don't even check your license at check points and asks you questions and shine a flashlight in your face. Waste of tax money and these violations are pure robbery.
