Many thanks to the Jayhawk aircrew and rescue swim...
Many thanks to the Jayhawk aircrew and rescue swimmer (I believe his name is Joey; my apologies if I'm wrong) who picked me up mid-afternoon on Friday, May 31, when I became severely dehydrated due to motion sickness during the last leg of the SoCal 300 race from Santa Barbara to San Diego on sailing vessel, Macondo. We were about 100 miles offshore of SD when I called in the request for the evac. After returning to SD, it was a short ambulance ride to the ER at UCSD Hillcrest, a few hours getting checked out and treated, then I was on my way back home to Marina del Rey. Without the CG's assistance, the alternative was at least another day on the boat with an uncertain outcome as to my condition.
The operation went very smoothly and I was only in the very cold water for a few minutes before I was in the basket and then up into the helo. Thanks again for being there for us mariners when we have a problem and need emergency care.
