The absolute best place to be stationed in the military. If you have the opportunity to take a course here, do it.

Exchange is lousy. Went to go pick a sweat shirt. Minimal inventory. Waste of time.

I had the privilege of spending most of 1969 here to study the Korean language, then returned as a member of the Defense Language Institute staff from 1984 through 1988. It's still one of my favorite places in the world and I would return to live in the Monterey area if I could afford it.

I had the good fortune of being assigned to the Presidio where I studied Chinese Mandarin. I have nothing but great memories of my time there, and have always wanted to return with my family. Hopefully, this year, my wife and I can visit and she can experience what I have always spoken so highly of over the past many years.

I loved my times in POM. Of course, now I don't have the easy access to the base but still like to get up there and look at how things change. Soldier's Field- priceless.
