Your teen is the most important person in your life, and when you see them struggling, it can be heartbreaking and scary. You feel desperate. You don t know where to turn to. You don t know who to trust. Sending your teen out of state, into the wilderness with confidence that they will be in the best possible care can be an overwhelming task. If there is one thing I want parents who are in the situation I was to know, it s that Trails Carolina IS THE PLACE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. From intake, to admin, to the staff and especially the therapists, I can t imagine a more perfect, professional, passionate and caring place. Trails far exceeded our expectations in every way possible. Our daughter grew and developed beyond what we thought was possible in such a short time. We will be forever grateful for the program and staff at Trails, and so glad we made this difficult decision.

Anyone with an ounce of sanity and a desire to care for your kids please do not let them go here. These so called nature therapies are dangerous and abusive. The staff are hardly trained, and therapists are rarely qualified. If you re going to spend this much cash in hope for you child to get better, take them to a licensed therapist. At least those don t account for the death of over 100 teens. I suggest you look up the horror stories and reviews from parents who have sent their kids to places like these before signing them up to go to one.

I went to trails 5 years ago and I m still traumatized. We would hike hours and hours at a time silently not allowed to joke or play around. If we wouldn t make or couldn t make a fire we wouldn t eat. Same with water. The letters I would weight to my parents were either not sent or censored. Please please don t ruin your child. I haven t been on a plane since because I m too scared I m going to be sent back. I m 19 now I was 15 when I went. All I can say is find a better place. This isn t right. Please love your kids more then to ruin them with this type of therapy it s not therapy it s abuse. I ll give more details if anyone is interested.

Trails Carolina was the best decision for our struggling 10 yr old son who had come to the end of his emotional rope. We didn't know how to help him and hospitalization/institutionalization was not an option we were willing to consider. The support and therapy he received from the field staff and therapists was invaluable. They were able to stabilize our son, work with our family to better understand his challenges and give us hope for a bright future. We will be forever grateful for this community of gifted individuals who know how to help when children and adolescents are struggling on the inside and when parents feel helpless. Wilderness therapy can work miracles.

Trails was an absolutely positive and completely transformative experience for our son, who is challenged by Generalized Anxiety, OCD and tics. I would unhesitatingly recommend to any parent whose child faces similar issues that they at least consider Trails. I'm aware that every child's situation is different, and so I would be reluctant to say to any parent that Trails is going to be perfect for them. But what I am very happy to say is that parents at least consider Trails thoughtfully and thoroughly, for our experience was fantastic. All the staff were superb, the therapy had the most insights into our son we had ever experienced, and we felt our son was physically safe throughout. It was also an immensely helpful experience to have Trails oversee structured conversations with other parents with kids in the Trails program whose children were facing similar challenges. We didn't feel alone anymore and that was super helpful. In sum, all I can do is speak from my own experience with Trails and say they were truly excellent for our son.

Trails is an awesome program that helped us and our daughter. We were impressed with sessions with Amanda and Common Ground. You should make Common Ground mandatory. This was an amazing part of our journey, Thank you!

I went in hating this program so much, but what really turned it around was when in my darkest hour this staff named Christiaan came in and saved the day. We had a rocky relationship, but he mad a huge impact on my life and I miss him so very much!

We are pleased with the progress that our son made at Trails. Trails gave us hope and support when we felt like we had exhausted our resources at home. Their philosophy of emphasizing the core values (Trust, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Leadership, and Service) was very important to us, as parents.

Our son was in a very very difficult place - his mental health, self-esteem, self-efficacy and motivation to try at life were just gone. Trails gave him a chance to 'reset' in a non-judgemental environment where he learned new skills, built confidence in his abilities by doing some really difficult things and take accountability for his actions and choices. It wasn't easy - life's most valuable lessons rarely are - but he came away with a set of skills for managing himself that he never would have learned otherwise. In addition, the psychological assessment he received at Trails revealed a different diagnosis than what we had been told previously, which is invaluable as we build the plan for where we go from here.
