I have lived in Texas my entire life and this IS NOT Tex-Mex. The chips were so oily and the "queso" tasted like melted kraft cheese with raw white onions. The salsa is not fresh it tastes like it's possibly out of a can. The black beans and rice had absolutely NO flavor, I even had to put salt on the guacamole. The only thing that had decent flavor was the chicken fajitas chimichanga and my Dr. Pepper. For 4 of us to eat it was $78!! Needless to say we were shocked and if ever in D.C. again we will not go back.

This place is awesome! Was searching for a place that wasn't super expensive and decided to give this place a try. I got Lucy's plate which was a combo platter and every single thing on my plate was delicious. Beans are kind of spicy so if you're not into that be aware but I thought it was awesome. The plate had a lot of food and came out much quicker than we expected so be sure not to fill up to much on the chips and salsa.

Also it was actually wheelchair accessible, with tables at a height that you can comfortably sit at with a wheelchair so extra props there.

Food is consistent and flavorful. Margaritas are great with many options. For those looking for thin chip, they are super thin here and come with pretty decent salsa. Just about everything comes with all the fixings. This is not a high end place but good enough to eat on a regular basis. It can get full even at the bar so if you are in a hurry during lunch time on the weekday, for example, you might want to consider another location. If you have the time, go for it.

Very seldom that I write a review while still sitting in the restaurant. Waitress was really nice and working hard, but spread too thin. Good came out cold. Pretty sure they just microwaved it and re did the taco. She never had a chance to come over and ask if I needed anything and ran away too quickly when she dropped off the food so I had to get up and get my own hot sauce. Drinks were never refilled and I couldn't ask for extra napkins. However, I don't blame her, the manager sat her with a 9 top and didn't even think to take the drink order or help her in any way even though she was the ONLY server working.

Right off of the Capitol South metro stop, this is arguably the best tex mex place in DC. Its off the mall, but close enough to walk from there if need be. Great food, excellent staff, its one of our go to places when we want to grab a meal in DC.

Found this place while walking from the metro to Nationals Park and it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Happy hour is nice and long with great specials. How can you go wrong with a pineapple mango margarita? Seems to be a friendly, fun atmosphere and the neighborhood is lucky to have them. I look forward to a second trip for a full meal.

Great place to eat chips, salsa and bar snacks during happy hour (in the bar only). The Margaritas, Texmex spring rolls and pork nachos were awesome. Prices are very reasonable especially for DC.

I get take-out from Tortilla Coast fairly often as it's close to my house. The portions are very generous and the service is always fairly quick. I'd recommend the chicken enchiladas and the quesadillas. I've only been here a few times to have a sit down meal, but the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa are so good, that I've filled up on them before my meal arrived!

It's a cozy spot to grab some good meskin food & a cold brew. It's right out of the Metro, so it's super easy to get to from that perspective. It seemed like they could use more help, but nothing horrible. Everyone was extremely pleasant.

Tortilla Coast is conveniently located to Capitol Hill with a nice selection of Mexican eats. The menu includes several Mexican cervezas on tap as well. Stop in and get a bite to eat and maybe a cold adult beverage.

Righteous Taco Tuesday aficionados. The tequila runs like water and the food is bar-none to anything else in the neighborhood. Popular with certain political types and those craving mini tacos that aren't that small.

Popular, funky restaurant very close to Capital Hill and Capital South Metro. Very attentive staff and some good menu options for all. Chips and salsa are served as soon as you re seated. Chips are a little greasy but the food was quite tasty.

This used to be one of my favorite places on the hill. Every dish was a hit. It had been a long time since I ve been here, but absolutely everything our table ordered was a disappointment. From the Chile Relleno to the Churros. Idk what or when it happened, but the tortilla coast is a shadow of its former self. My family will not be returning. FWIW, the service was stellar. Just the food is at issue.

The chips are the best in the area. Great place to people watch if you like seeing members of Congress in their natural habitat. The servings sizes are huge, so split a plate or expect left overs. The service is always good. Restaurant is a bit dated and could be cleaner.

We were visiting from out of state and a local recommended this place for dinner. We walked in and the amount of people in this one restaurant was overwhelming, it was around 5 and was loud/packed with young career folk in dress attire just getting off work for drinks. The host immediately greeted us and grabbed us a booster seat for the baby, got us a table by the window and pulled down the blinds so we weren t being baked. The server came quickly and got our drink orders, even took DD s sippy to put milk in it for us. I bet he stopped by our table every 5 minutes even though it was insanely crowded. Our drinks were never more than half empty, I didn t have to ask for an extra plate since the kids shared a kids meal - he just brought one. The host gave me directions to the bathroom (which was like a maze away) and I got lost halfway there. Amazingly he just showed up, said he was worried I d get lost, and showed me how to get there.
I have no idea how a restaurant that is this packed out, with so many people shoulder to shoulder, and low staff, can be this hospitable and attentive to every guest but it was truly impressive.
The food was just alright, the portions were decent and my meat was way overcooked like jerky. I got the tuna tacos and meh, it was food and I was hungry but nothing special. The chips were greasy but the salsa however is made in-house and was absolutely delicious.
Fortunately for the clearly overwhelmed BOH, the FOH made up for their shortcomings and I only wished my server and host had told us their names so I could brag about their service specifically.
With 20 people walking in/out the door it didn t stop the host from thanking us for coming in and wishing us a good day, as well as apologizing for the noise since we were clearly a traveling family with kids who landed in a busy singles after-work hangout.
Absolutely awesome FOH.
4 stars for FOH service, -1 Star for tuna jerky tacos.
