Toastmasters District 60 - Empowering Individuals to Become Confident Communicators and Leaders
Toastmasters District 60 is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area for over 90 years. The organization's mission is to empower individuals to become confident communicators and leaders through its proven educational program.
Toastmasters International was founded in 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley in Santa Ana, California. The first Toastmasters club outside of the United States was established in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1932. Today, Toastmasters International has over 364,000 members in more than 16,200 clubs located in over 145 countries.
Toastmasters Districts are geographical areas that consist of multiple clubs within a specific region. Toastmasters District 60 serves the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and parts of Eastern Ontario including Kingston and Ottawa.
The district is divided into six divisions: A through F with each division consisting of several areas which have multiple clubs within them. Each club offers a supportive environment where members can improve their communication and leadership skills through regular meetings that follow a structured agenda.
The Toastmasters program consists of two tracks: Communication Track and Leadership Track. The Communication Track focuses on developing public speaking skills while the Leadership Track focuses on developing leadership skills such as planning events or leading teams.
Members progress through the program by completing various projects which are evaluated by other members who provide constructive feedback to help them improve their skills further.
In addition to regular club meetings, Toastmasters Districts also host various events throughout the year such as speech contests or training sessions for club officers or members who want to take on leadership roles within their clubs or districts.
One unique aspect of Toastmasters is its emphasis on self-paced learning where members can progress at their own pace based on their individual goals and objectives. Members can choose from various paths within each track depending on their interests such as storytelling, humor, or interpersonal communication.
Toastmasters District 60 offers a wealth of resources to its members including mentorship programs, online learning modules, and access to a network of experienced speakers and leaders who can provide guidance and support.
