Went to a concert here a few months ago (Alt-J, who were excellent) and was really impressed with the venue. Definitely on the smaller side, but I felt that worked to it's advantage. The sound was fantastic, and the whole experience felt just a bit more intimate. Moreover, if you're willing to walk a bit and are familiar with the campus, you can park for free!

Fantastic concert venue. I saw both Arkells and Bastille here and they were both phenomenal. The size of it makes the music feel slightly more personal but it still has a stadium atmosphere. The only downside is it's location.

Decent place but not equipped for large events (referring to Louis CK in particular). Just not enough staff: lines go on for miles (and apparently there are other entrances but no one goes to the end of the mile-long line to let anyone know this) for entry and the people directing you to your seat are not familiar with the seats. It makes you realize what a great job Rogers arena does. They should bring staff there for training or managers there to see how it's done. I would think twice about attending another large event there in the future. Also the sound bounces around there.

Calling for customer service related issue was very poor. They forwarded my call to somebody who wasn't even in the office to receive it. Felt like they just wanted me out of their hair.

The Canucks alumni hockey tournament is playing at Thunderbird Stadium 25th and 26th. Plus the Vancouver Canucks are practicing early afternoon Sunday the 26th. Check the website for the price and the times.

Here for a concert. Drink prices were pretty ridiculous after paying some already inflated ticketmaster costs. I stuck with water for most of the night.

Transit access is great (lots of UBC bus routes run right past) but there will be lots of lineups at the end of an event so plan to wait a bit or try carpooling.

Venue didn't handle large crowds well. Huge lineups for food and drinks, and then when the show let out, we could not get out efficiently due to many bottlenecked halls. Service was also sub par, as the guy who poured our beer was touching the lips of the cups with his hands, didn't pour them full, and we weren't offered a tray to help carry, nor did the lids fit. So I had to carry my burger in my arm and then spilled constantly as we found our seats. Show was great though, thanks for the laughs Louis CK

The arena was great but my son got a parking ticket during between the time he got out of his truck and the time he took to walk to the meter and pay. Seems almost impossible but it happened.

It's a great venue... Lots of signage showing where the parking is for first timers... Plenty of close by parking in a multilevel parkade .. just a short walk across the street to get in. Plenty of washrooms and many food choices....

Great venue for smaller shows, counter service was quick and easy, bathrooms are a little sparse. Great sound for concerts for an arena. Lots of parking but traffic can be slow at full capacity.

Friendly staff, helpful when asked. Facility has clearly marked bins for plastic recycling, organics and waste which is huge. And not only is the popcorn seemingly endless, it comes in an EcoSmart paper bag and is only 5$. Attention to detail in services!!

3 rinks clustered location on different levels could use better signage and assignments. People are always getting lost. Parking is usually plentiful except when there is a sports function or event at Doug mitchell.

One of my favorite places to watch the kids play. Father Bauer Arena is smaller, but has tons of comfortable seating with most importantly.... good heating. Larger arena is cool to watch your kids play in stadium style arena with comfortable seats. For the actual UBC they have concession stands with full service and serve beer.... if only we could get them to run for minor hockey.....

I went for the Canadian Nationals game of figure skating.
I was very impressed to see the players' performances up close because the links were close to the audience.
There were a lot of toilets, but when the seats are full, the ladies' restroom is still a long line.
There were plenty of dining outlets, and the most popular were fried chicken and French potatoes, seaweed rolls with salmon and cream cheese, burgers, Keanu salad, overnight oatmeal, yogurt and poutine. You can also drink hot coffee.
There was a lot of people involved in the university around the area, such as UBC's student district, and I had the impression that it was relatively safe.
The bus driver was also very kind.
If you plan to use public transportation, it is convenient to make a compass card at the airport.

Went for my boyfriend's rec hockey league. One of the rinks has literally no seating but I don't think you were supposed to have viewers anyways. Only one of the three that doesn't have seating. "Good ice" - boyfriend.

I came here to see Louis ck. The show was awesome, the venue was comfortable and the staff inside were very helpful. However, my husband and I went together and we had to split up to get checked by security. I being a woman had to wait a very long time in the cold before i could get inside because there wasn't enough female security staff to check all the women. So all the men got in really quick and all the women had to wait in a long line in the cold. That really put a bad taste in my mouth.

great rink and staff but they have some clear discrimination policy against speed skaters, havent been to a single public skating drop in that bans speed skates like these guys do. absolutely ridiculous and i thought this was supposed to be an inclusive rink that is about acceptance regardless of identity

It was a little disappointing because she stayed in one area on the floor and did not move around much I had tickets for the floor and she didn't come within 50 feet love Teresa but she gave one area to much time

Okay. I frequent this place often for their open figure skate time, and I ve always loved it. The Protrans rink is good ice and it s not too crowded. I will continue to go here despite the few complaints I do have.

I m not a student and having to pay $12 for parking and $6 for admission EVERY time I come (in the summer it s 5x a week) is really doing damage. A punch card or frequent flyer points or something other than drop in admission would be greatly appreciated. I know parking is up to different campus people but it s a bit ridiculous that there s no free or discounted parking for a sports venue that many people come to daily for the gym, ice, etc

On a Friday night there was only one staff available to help over 80 people pay, rent skates, and answer any questions. A friend and I waited for 15 minutes of a 1 hour open skate block and moved two places forward. The poor staff guy was overwhelmed! Payments were quick and easy but getting and exchanging skates for people was killing any momentum. We walked away.

I ve also been to public skates where there is either no staff on or near the ice in case of incident (unsure of policy here, but have previously been under impression that there should be ice staff in addition to office staff on the clock for public skate) and also had staff on the ice that NEVER put his phone down. I m talking head down, skates on, doing lazy circles while texting on ice for TWO HOURS. Ridiculous. I get it, it s boring, but it s such a small fraction of their time and he was so preoccupied and became a hazard to everyone on the ice. Multiple people narrowly managed to avoid him. Imagine a ref with a book in his hands during a game!? Pretty sure there s gotta be a rule for phones on ice.

As said, I ll keep going as the ice quality, figure only time blocks, and well maintained facility make it a great place. The major issue errs more on the staffing situation.

Been playing hockey here for 15 years, predating the Olympics reno's. Elevators are out of commission too often. Pay parking is $3.75 for 2.5 hours. Skate sharpening is average. Ice surface can vary from good to choppy.

Went and saw the Louis CK show here, lots of drink stands though I did spend about half an hour in line in one, only to be told they were "out of everything"... hard to believe. Getting there on transit is pretty miserable, and getting out of the parkade across the street took about 40minutes.. and the seats are pretty uncomfortable with no drink-holders... but hey, it's a fairly large and inexpensive venue in Vancouver, not too many of those left!
